Conservative Republicans of CA – Chico Meeting A Huge Success

by Jack Lee

Last night’s meeting at Logan’s Road House in Chico was packed, not one extra seat was available, and this was despite the time conflict with President Obama’s speech! lol The meeting moved right along on schedule and much was accomplished that extended far beyond mere partisan politics. It also set a record for attendance.

Among the guest speakers was Andrew Coolidge, candidate for the Chico City Council. Supervisor Larry Wahl speaking on county issues, Michael Wacker speaking on voter propositions, Peggy Harrington CRC membership, Toby Schindelbeck, a candidate for the Chico City Council and Jim Morgan. Jim was there representing Sean Morgan, who was unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict. Sean, is a candidate for Chico City Council. Also speaking was C. Jerome Crowe, President, of Tehema County unit of the Conservative Republican’s of California, speaking on issues of mutual concern to both CRC units.

Other notables in attendance were 4 members of the BTA (they prefer to remain anonymous) and Betty Schumacher, a leader in the Republican Women Federated.

Among the items of business for CRC was a vote to take action opposing a bill the democrats sneaked by in the 11th hour of budget hearings. That is SB1018 (cap and trade). This bill threatens to add over one billion in taxes to California businesses per year and the timing could not be worse.

The exodus of businesses leaving CA is greater than what’s coming in, we sure don’t need to give them any more reason to leave the state! The Butte and Tehema CRC units will petition the State Board of Directors of the CRC/CRP to take this fight to the Governor and demand he veto this bill!

The CRC unit also voted to seek a change to how our electoral votes for president are assigned. Currently CA is a winner take all and this serves neither party because their is no reason for either dems or reps to campaign. The dems have the votes sowed up, so their candidate can pass on visiting us. The reps candidate/s know this and they won’t waste their time or money here either. In this respect, both sides lose and voters are deprived of an opportunity to meet the candidates, and businesses are deprived of those campaign dollars they spend.

CA should be more than a fly-over-state when it comes to presidential elections and this is something that both democrats and republicans should endorse for the good of the state. The CRC will petition our State Representatives to introduce legislation seeking a change to prorated electoral votes.

NOTE: The CRC is a grass roots organization that believes good government starts right here, with involved citizens being informed on important issues.
