The election is over…now what?
We will be discussing various outcomes over the next hours and days but at the moment I want to concentrate on the re-election of Barack Obama and what it means. It’s time for our friends on the left to explain a few things. Automatic tax increases loom and the economy has bumped along at a meager 1-2%, not enough to fund the government and not enough to begin to pay down our debt. Your candidate once again ran on the same platform offering nothing new. He claimed his work was not finished and you decided he deserved a second chance. You won the big leadership position…now what?
President Obama does not have a strong mandate for his agenda and redistribution policies.
Republicans retain the House with a projected net gain of 65 seats. They gained ground in the Senate with 6 projected seats won. Finding solutions to our problems that will pass both houses and win the Presidents signature will be difficult. Considering the financial concerns, the joblessness, the massive and growing debt, the dislike by the American people of Obamacare, the depressed state of small business, and the struggles going on all over the world both financial and war related, it is difficult to see how the next four years will improve the circumstances of our lives.
Now what?
It seems to me that since my candidate lost it is up to the left to tell us what will make things better. I’m willing to listen and learn. I have asked the question before and never gotten an answer. Perhaps this win will embolden our friends on the left to finally tell me how this win will help America to grow strong. For instance, what policies of the Obama administration will cause the creation of new jobs, a reduction in debt, and a vibrant and growing economy? Now that new regulation and taxes will come into play under Obamacare how will that give us better healthcare and how will it ensure that everyone is covered? As Al Qaeda expands into 32 countries and gains in strength how will Obama’s appeasement policies and intentions for a smaller military keep us safe?
Now that you have won, left America, please tell us…how is your candidate going to lead the country to real recovery and growth…huge job growth…paying down the debt…the ability to afford a home, create savings, and feel secure?
I think the way forward is obvious and both sides agree so why can’t we make it happen?
STOP SENDING JOBS TO CHINA AND INDIA.
We can start with defense contractors. All government funds should be spend hiring US citizens only. Period.
” … gained ground in the Senate with 6 projected seats won.”
I beg your pardon? Of the 33 contested Senate seats the Repugs won 6. This is, alas, no gain at all; quite the contrary. You’ve lost two seats.
And you’re losing seats in the House as well, but it’s not clear how many yet. What’s more, them as are left are seriously reconsidering any Tea Party affiliation.
You are going to have to tone it down, or no one will take your calls. I keep telling this to Juanita, but she don’t listen to me either.
Re: “President Obama does not have a strong mandate for his agenda and redistribution policies.”
Disagree, Obama has no mandate. (But he will probably claim one.)
I’d love to tone it down Libby. The stage is yours. You won! time to wax eloquent on how this big win is going to make Americans better off. Its time for you to put your butt on the line and explain how higher taxes and more regulation are going to fix the problems we face.
You never have explained how raising taxes, spending money and creating burdensome, complicated law and regulation will create an economy that will support the government and the citizens of this nation. Now is the time.
There ya go Libbya, the stage is yours. Put up or shut up. Or just have another drinky-poo and a nice nap.
It appears Libbya decided to have another cocktail and a nap.
I know you’re upset, but you just have to let go of this Armageddon scenario thing you got workin’. Nothing horrible is going to happen.
Not even Democrats believe it’s a good idea to spend more money than you take in. Certain structural changes to our social safety net will be made. And for the next many years we will be spending a little less and bringing in a little more until we’re back on an even keel.
The historical fact is … that things were swimming along swimmingly until that Reaganommic campaign to dismantle our social safety net commenced. It is my fond hope that the campaigners (you are merely pawns) will acknowledge themselves defeated, and the crusade vanquished. But I’m too old for hope.
Eternal vigilance !!!
After looking at the endless lists of layoffs, bankruptcy and business closings Obama sure has his work cut out for him to turn this economy around.
I hear he’s headed for Burma instead of staying to be a leader in resolving the budget cuts taking place next month.

Libby: “…things were swimming along swimmingly until that Reaganommic campaign to dismantle our social safety net commenced.”
What Reaganonomic campaign would that be Libby? Name it. Tell me how it was conducted and name the legislation that followed. Then tell me how it harmed anyone.
The social safety net has always grown; the number of people needing a social safety net has grown and will increase even more, the number of programs in the social safety net have increased, the number of people needed to administer the safety net has increased.
What did the Democrat Party think was going to happen when they chose to champion the needy (for votes) by giving things to them for free? What fool would struggle to better himself when an even bigger fool, without scruples, is willing to provide a place to live, some walking around money, and food? And how does that uncrupulous politician manage to be so benificent? By convincing another bunch of fools that if they don’t agree they have no heart…together they form a coalition, a syndicate if you will. All that’s left then is to brand the competition as cruel and selfish… an easy task since personal responsibility and hard work are a much harder sell.
The progressive arm of the Democrat Party has been winning with entitlement promises since Woodrow Wilson with this debauched brand of governing. It’s a sophisticated form of the empty care package since in the long run it robs the poor of their spirit, dignity, and liberty, creates a tax burden that is impossible to meet, and places continuing downward pressure on the wealth building economy needed to fund. It burdens some citizens, through high taxation, to subsidize other citizens who are capable of working but have little incentive to do so. It destroys the concept of family and encourages decline in neighborhoods. It stands in direct5 conflict of the notion of liberty that our nation of the people, for the people, and by the people was founded.
Your party has been lying to the poor for decades. (Just like your partyb leaders lied about the government’s ability to forever cover Fannie Mae’s securitized mortgages without creating a significant financial crisis.)
Your party accuses conservatives of only caring about money and not about the needy. But it is a lie easily proven by the enormous amount of personal and corporate charity and contribution that people in the private sector have made in their communities and the nation.
Proposals to reform social programs are born out of the truth that these programs cannot be sustained without incurring unsustainable debt or compromising the economy and our national defense capability. Instead of acknowledging this truth your party uses the crisis for selfish political gain with no thought as to how you can actually sustain the programs. In other words you let somebody else worry about the money…your party doesn’t care enough about the money.
“But I’m too old for hope.”
Apparently, you are also too old to learn. You can’t be vigilant if you have no grounding in your heritage and can’t tell the truth about progressive history or the present circumstances progressive policies have created.
Hint: The two don’t mix.
“Nothing horrible is going to happen.”
I recall that back in 2008 we told you that progressive spending policies would lead to inflation and would not create a strong economy and you scoffed (smirked really) at us. Well four years later we have no real recovery we have higher food and fuel prices, inflation is being kept low artificially, our dollars have lost value, a lot more people are in poverty, a lot more need food stamps, unemployment remains high and the situation is much worse in states with democrat governance than it is in states with republican governance…that’s horrible enough!
Now you expect us to believe that the next four years will bring something better? Have you read the regulations in the APPCA? Are you aware of the expensive regulation and taxes in that bill? Are you aware of the numbers of people now on SSI and food stamps because they can’t find work? Do you recall that the boomers are hitting aged 65. Do you honestly think harry Reid is going to stop pushing for cap and trade…it will kill business just like the president’s war on coal is killing that industry.
We already have horrible. I can only imagine worse. But you won…go ahead tell us HOW you think Barack Obama will lead us to prosperity and opportunity? Tell us how he will put us on a sound economic footing. What policies will do the trick and how do they work? Come on…the president purposely attempted to make Paul Ryan look ridiculous in public over his proposal. What is his superior plan?
The way forward

They lose and immediately the chorus begins. Republicans must change or die. A rump party of white America, it must adapt to evolving demographics or forever be the minority.
The only part of this that is even partially true regards Hispanics. They should be a natural Republican constituency: striving immigrant community, religious, Catholic, family-oriented and socially conservative (on abortion, for example).
The principal reason they go Democratic is the issue of illegal immigrants. In securing the Republican nomination, Mitt Romney made the strategic error of (unnecessarily) going to the right of Rick Perry. Romney could never successfully tack back.
For the party in general, however, the problem is hardly structural. It requires but a single policy change: Border fence plus amnesty. Yes, amnesty. Use the word. Shock and awe full legal normalization (just short of citizenship) in return for full border enforcement.
Ive always been of the enforcement first school, with the subsequent promise of legalization. I still think its the better policy. But many Hispanics fear that there will be nothing beyond enforcement. So, promise amnesty right up front. Secure the border with guaranteed legalization to follow on the day the four border-state governors affirm that illegal immigration has slowed to a trickle.

“I recall that back in 2008 we told you that progressive spending policies would lead to ….”
But what they lead to was the salvation of AIG and the global banking system (a dubious benefit, but better than the alternative, the SGD) and, of course, most of the nation’s auto workers still have jobs. We remember, even if you choose not to.
“But what they lead to was the salvation of AIG and the global banking system (a dubious benefit, but better than the alternative, the SGD) and, of course, most of the nation’s auto workers still have jobs.”
Oh and don’t forget the teachers and their pensions! A lot of them got temporarily saved too…now what? You still haven’t explained how going forward the economy will thrive and we will have lots and lots of jobs under Obama’s plans…or how they work. I’d really like to know.
Peggy I heard the same thing…the President intends to travel! He makes a speech and then gets outta town…LOL.
(Kinda like he did when he left the guys to die in Benghazi and flew off to his Las Vegas campaign gig!)
I couldn’t believe it when I heard it. I would expect him to stay here and lead or at least participate in preventing us from going over that fiscal cliff. Instead he’s taking off for another country. This could be he’s new pattern of leading from afar instead of from behind.
Hey, the trip could be Michelle’s idea, because she hasn’t been on vacation for several weeks. Her agenda for this term may be to break her record for the number of vacations she took during BO’s first term and exceeds the amount we paid for her and her friends to vacations by millions.
Oh, the entitled life of the elite while the peons are left wondering why their newely elected leader chose to leave the country instead of staying to doing his job of helping his people in a time of fiscaL crisis.
“You still haven’t explained how going forward the economy will thrive and we will have lots and lots of jobs under Obama’s plans…or how they work. I’d really like to know. ”
Emotionally driven liberals were never one to think too far down the road. But, the road ends just around the next bend, then we’ll see them freak out, unfortunately we’ll be right there with them. That’s the worst part, we knew they took the wrong road and we were dragged right along with them.
Re: “Emotionally driven liberals were never one to think too far down the road.”
Indeed. When they can’t explain how it will work we have to know there’s trouble ahead. It will be interesting to watch how this unfolds, if painful.
I was surprised to read one man’s opinion about Obamacare in this regard in National Review. A real mess is coming down the pike; I have no idea how it will all get sorted out:
