We Must Consider our Options in This Brave New World

We in California got hit with a double whammy on Tuesday. Not only did the man who promised to “fundamentally transform America” win the Presidency based on a campaign of revenge, the state in which we reside has gone completely over to a Marxist green-socialist model. The combination of new taxes and regulation coming down the pike in an already lackluster economy is likely to put my company out of business . And my employees will lose their jobs in a job ugly atmosphere. It breaks my heart because we won’t be the only ones and it didn’t have to happen. We must begin to consider our options.

Two of us, the owners, are eligible for Social Security. One of us is on SSI. One has gone back to college but has lost a home, his wife, and has 2 kids to support. When the unemployment runs out he could probably survive on food stamps and other government programs and pray there is enough for school. He’s a white male, what are his chances for getting assistance for his re-education? His HS graduating daughter might be able to get a scholarship for school but finding work will be tough. Ah heck Obama is going to fix this…he just needed a little more time, right?

Another employee is over fifty, not yet old enough to begin receiving SS, but he will have unemployment for awhile and he does have a bad back which may qualify him, in this big government fun fest, for SSI…all of which proves Libby’s point that we should be grateful for these wonderful government programs!

Anyone in this position should take Libby’s lead and immediately begin demanding that the rich “pay up”. We should jump on the popular idea to tax the crap out of any of our fellow (rich) Americans so we can take care of all the newly uprooted people in need…anything less would be un-American! Right? I mean we gotta consider our options and big government won!

I heard about several big companies across this great land that will begin firing people now. Healthcare and high energy costs are then big drivers but there were other concerns as well.

There was a man on FOX Business yesterday morning who was trying to put a happy face on the situation for his business. He supplies parts to a company that builds big rig trucks. But he went on to say that the truck company is looking at new EPA regulations that will be very expensive and difficult and time consuming to achieve. I wondered why this company would even try. The last time the EPA changed emission regulations the company bit the bullet, took the risk, invested the money, and patented a new, cleaner engine which was blessed by the EPA…but big deal, that EPA has now basically broken its agreement about that clean engine and expects an even cleaner engine. The green religion arm of the progressive model always demands more and they don’t care who they harm in the process.

A green activist was on the same show this morning and he said the administration would go after the coal industry. EPA, according to him, will now demand that the clean regulation for the industry will now apply not only to new plants but to existing plants as well. A lot of people will lose their jobs if it happens and they have already lost a lot of jobs in that industry.

I ran into a woman yesterday whose family is moving out of state…and another man near retirement who said he will move to another, more tax friendly state. People have to begin to consider their options because come hell or high water, Obama will have his transformation!

The means to end our capitalist system has already begun…try 6,125 new regulations in the last 90 days:

Many people who support Obama are wealthy or have high paying, high compensation government or tax exempt organization jobs. By forming a coalition with the needy, people of color (as they put it), and the middle class progressives they have won the fight for universal healthcare (UHC will be a reality within ten years as private sector health companies die on the vine as planned)…they have won what they believe is a mandate to fundamentally transform the nation…why should they worry about killing off a few companies and industries in the process? It’s a bit costly but there is always more money and if there isn’t big government can just print more. People are hurting but big ideas take big sacrifices…”This is America”, they say! “We’ll be just fine”.

I pray that Obama’s plan works soon. We need to see how he will create a vibrant economy, thriving businesses, plenty of opportunity, and people who are willing to take risks with their money and their entrepreneurial ideas. So many folks are in need; the government cart is filling up fast. It’s time to consider our options.

Since I don’t understand how Obama’s plan works, and I can’t get Libby or Chris to explain how it works, I’m left observe and hope. But please allow me one very sad reflection of a former time…the folks in need, in particular the homeless and military folks, that once could depend on a big fat check from me every year may not receive nearly as much. I hope there is someone else who can step up and fill the gap (Libby? Chris?)…and I do wish my employees all the best in this brave new progressive world.
