I did something I almost never do. I stood in a long line of people and waited in the cold wind for 2 hours for the grand opening of the new Sportsman’s Warehouse. This store replaced a large part of the old Mervyns store in the NVP mall. The Goodwill took the rest that fronts on East Ave.
Because we were in the first 300 (I was number 105 and my friend was 106) we received a $20 gift certificate, a free baseball cap and the opportunity to buy up to 500 rounds of .22 bullets.
I spent my gift certificate in the first five minutes when I bought a “brick” (500 .22 long rifles) and my final bill came to $5.72 total for the ammo. Just a couple of years ago you could buy a brick of .22’s on sale for about $15 at any large sporting goods store, but for some reason people are hoarding ammo and .22’s are almost impossible to find. So, despite the fact that US munitions makers are producing 1,000,000 rounds a day, they can’t keep up with the demand and it’s been like this for over two years and no relief is in sight.
Exactly why people are buying up ammo in huge lots is debatable, but I suspect it has something to do with liberal’s and their zealot-like over regulation on firearms and their relentless attacks on our 2nd amendment. Consumers feel threaten by this and fear they won’t be buy a firearm or ammo in the near future. Gun sales have been steadily on the risk (oops funny typo meant to say rise) ever since Obama took office.
But he’s not a partisan.
Jack is it a store mostly aimed at hunting and fishing or does it also have a sports section?
Jack ,you are 100% right, and if I may comment that you seem to be a bit inappropriately kind when describing the freedom sucking policies of the current liberal mentality we have been enduring these past 5 and one half years.
And anyone with the common sense of a flea isn’t laughing these days .
Harold, yep, well said.
“Gun sales have been steadily on the risk ever since Obama took office.” Typos are so unfair, but this one ain’t far off the mark.
U.S. production capacity for 22 long rifle ammo is about 5 billion rounds per year. Doing simple math, that is about 500 “bricks” of ammo per state per day. 500 bricks per day for an entire state lasts about as long as a snowflake in you know where.
That must have been a Freudian slip…lol
Thanks for the heads-up Jack. I too was one of those who couldn’t find 22 ammo, but a dear friend gave me four cases from his supply.
My son wants a new Smith and Wesson. I’ll let him know he may be able to find it there at a reasonable price.
Peggy I concur with Harold. Your son better pick one out soon because Smith and a few other manufacturers are going to stop selling in California because of asinine regulations soon to go into effect, the micro marking of firing pins being but one of many stupid and pointless laws designed to prevent gun sales in California. The laws are written, they’ve passed, they just await to governors signature which could come right after the elections are over. The chicken democrats don’t want any voter backlash until they have their seats, then they are gambling that the voters will forget what was done to them by the next election cycle…it’s worked for them so far too!
Peggy, if your Son wants a S&W I suggest he get it now, both S&W and Ruger have stated they will stop selling handguns in California due to overly restrictive laws and the excessive cost to perform them, if even because a screw assembly might be changed.
Speaking with the Berreta Sales rep, he mentioned Beretta also may pull out of the California market with certain guns due to unspecified restrictive con-cocked by the Liberal progressive driven Anti Gun rules.
In addition to restricting Guns California has this gem that the Obama administration is looking at for future national implementation;
California’s Gun Confiscation Program Hits Firearm Owners Hard. Efforts by the California Department of Justice (DOJ)to disarm gun owners have led to apparent civil rights violations.
Following numerous reports of improper arrests and firearm seizures throughout California, Roseville based gun rights group “The Calguns Foundation” has issued a new warning to gun owners in the Golden State.
“Gun confiscation efforts pushed by Attorney General Kamala Harris have apparently led to unconstitutional arrests of regular, non-prohibited gun owners as well as the seizure of their firearms and ammunition,” said Brandon Combs, the group’s executive director of the Foundation’s DOJ Watch project.
California’s Armed Prohibited Persons System, or ‘APPS’, firearms confiscation program was funded in 2013 through Senate Bill 140, authored by state legislators including San Diego-based senator Joel Anderson (R-Alpine). SB 140 re-appropriated money paid by gun buyers for background checks to APPS law enforcement actions, This law has created raids, often carried out by heavily armed DOJ agents and local law enforcement agencies, and they are not directed toward violent criminals,” noted Combs.
Combs did make these suggestions if you become a target of “APPS”.
Should you be contacted by law enforcement, be polite but prepared to exercise your rights:
For instance, should a warrant be served upon you, do not physically resist the officers but do remain silent and contact your attorney as soon as possible.
Do not consent to any search and remember that you are not required to volunteer information or open locked containers.
Do not dismiss the excessive intent of the Liberal anti-gun mindset and their wanting to do anything to take your legally owned guns any way they can conceive.
Knock Knock who’s there?
Thanks Jack and Harold, I’ll let him know.
This may be why he hasn’t been able to find the gun he wants.
Re #1: LOL El LOL Stupido LOL strikes LOL again! LOL
Moving on from the moron, this is good news.
Re Harold and Peggy comments:
The possession of firearms (and ammunition) is a right, not a privilege. Can you imagine a progressive run country that would register and license free speech speech, freedom to assemble, and religion?
Crap, sloppy again. Oh well…
The blog is informal and we are friends here…we can handle the occasional slop…no worries, man…be happy 🙂
Hey, some good news for a change.
Interview: Economist John Lott Launches Initiative to Facilitate Truthful Reporting About Guns:
“John Lott, an economist and an expert on firearms in society, recently announced that he is launching the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC), which will produce studies on the relationship between crime and guns. Lott ultimately hopes that CPRC’s research will equip journalists and media with accurate statistics and reliable information.
Lott felt compelled to create CPRC after former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg began funneling money into various studies which, in Lott’s view, misrepresented facts in order to further the former mayor’s own anti-gun agenda.”

That is great news. His organization will be immediately labeled as “discredited” by the narcissist party, but it will be a great source.
