The headline doesn’t put it that way but, according to The Washington Free Beacon, that will be the goal of researchers at a new facility:
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is creating a $2 million research center to study how the government can “nudge” Americans toward making healthier eating habits.
The agency is currently accepting grant applications to establish a “Center for Behavioral Economics and Healthy Food Choice Research,” which will facilitate studies such as how breaking up combo meals at fast food restaurants would influence customers.
This represents tax dollars flushed directly into the toilet! It could also lead to the shutteirng of restaurants and fast food businesses that will no longer be able to cater to the customer but instead will be mandated to comply with new government regulations based on the research findings. It will lead to higher costs for a meal out, just as Michelle Obama’s healthy lunch program led to higher priced food wasted when kids threw their luches in the garbage.
And how do the radical lefties now in charge at the USDA justify this friviolous expense and the gross intrusion into private decision making about menues anfd food consumption? By the fact that they have already intruded to take our money to redistribute as food stamps! They justify one expenditure on the back of another:
The USDA said it is their responsibility to attempt to alter the food choices of Americans since 25 percent receive food aid from government programs.
Who the hell made it necessary that 25% of Americans to get food from the government instead of by their own means? Why the Obama administration of course, whose policies have failed utterly to get the American people working again. Americans cannot find work because this administration wants it that way! People are being forced to rely on government hand-outs!
Obama bragged last year through his mouthpiece Jay Carney that he’d created over seven million jobs. But Newsmax reported st the time that more than 16 million were added to food stamp rolls since 2009. Obama LOVES seeing people dependent, helpless, and needy…and Michelle? Well, honey, she just LOVES telling people how to eat. See how it works?
Can you spell government C-O-N-T-R-O-L?
Don’t you prefer freedom?

It used to be a joke that if Obama came out in favor of healthy food, Republicans would come out against it.
It’s not a joke anymore.
Also: Unless these schools do not allow students to bring their own lunches, what exactly are you complaining about? That the government entitlement of free school lunches isn’t generous enough for you? Not terribly consistent with your other arguments, is it?
Chris this is the problem with liberals; they respond to their own attitudes about conservative opinion rather than the point being made.
Eating healthy food is smart. Conservatives are not against healthy food. We are against wasting taxpayer money, especially for things that do not bear fruit.
There is something deeply troubling about someone in such a high office wanting to find out how to manipulate the people about their food choices. The lack of respect this shows for the intelligence of our citizens and for the freedoms we are guaranteed by our Constitution is horrendous. The arrogance it takes to think this way is astounding!
This is the kind of thing that might be done locally within a community of concerned women or healthcare providers. It is not something the federal government should be addressing.
I deeply resent the nanny quality of government intervention and I deeply resent the waste of tax dollars.
As for Michelle’s school lunch program the GAO found several problems with it:
When a school district loses $100,000.00 on a lunch program it’s a BFD, to quote the VP.
Tell me, Chris, why is it that liberals are never concerned about wasting tax dollars?
What about never ending high unemployment and lousy economic growth…the administration doesn’t seem at all concerned and you just blow right by it in your comments.
How about the skyrocketing debt that you were very angry about under Bush but avoid talking about here under Obama?
How is it that you continue to try to characterize us as off base when your own party has been such a colossal failure over six years? Exactly how many years of suffering must the people endure under the incompetent nannies before you finally admit how wrong your thinking is?
The kids aren’t healthier…just hungrier under Michelle’s black bean burger debacle of a plan! (Hint…history repeats. This was tried before and failed for the same reasons when my kids were in school…back when Nanny Carter was in power I believe)
Great, just what we don’t need. Another agency telling us how to live our lives.
Hey, people who are living off of the gov’t dole will feel they have to comply, while those who don’t will rightfully complain while writing the check.
I’m curious as to what others here think of Crazy Bob’s extremely homophobic, misogynistic and Putin-loving link.
Tina: “The kids aren’t healthier…just hungrier under Michelle’s black bean burger debacle of a plan!”
Again, why do you care? According to your philosophy, isn’t it the parents’ job to feed their children, not the school’s?
I’m curious as to what others here think of Crazy Bob’s extremely homophobic, misogynistic and Putin-loving link.
Geez, you read alot into everything. Why can’t you just admit we have a girly man as POTUS.
Bigoted Bob: “Geez, you read alot into everything.”
Bob, I don’t really buy into gender stereotypes, but I’ve always been under the impression that one of the requirements of being a “real man” is owning up to what they say; they don’t try to dodge and pretend they had a different meaning than the one they clearly intended.
Yet not only did you deny that you meant to insult Obama by calling him “that Muslim in the White House” last week, now you’re denying that your first link was anti-gay and sexist. Why not just admit that your link denigrates homosexuals and women? It’s silly to pretend otherwise. Here are a few excerpts:
“Obama: Feminine look and that stupid, fake-ass smile.
[smaller print] Don’t bend over near this dude!
“Putin folk dances with REAL women. Obama girly dances with lesbians.
[Photo of Ellen DeGeneres, obviously implying that lesbians are not “real women”]
[small print] Lesbian Ellen Degenerate (Degenerous [sic])
Rumor: Obama “mistress” (most likely true) Kal Penn
[small print] Kal Penn is a homosexual actor. He (and others) have been romantically linked to Obama.
“Putin is ‘one of the boys.’ Obama…well
[Photo of Obama on “The View”]
[small print] The only “man” in that photo is Whoopi Goldberg (left)
Obama’s teen-mom was promiscuous and did soft porn.
[small print] Slutty Feminist Stanley Ann-Dunham divorced twice and abandoned little Barry when he was 10.”
And there’s more.
This kind of nutburgers, unrestrained hatred has no place in civilized discussion, Bob. Even most conservatives know better than to go around calling gay people “degenerates” these days.
Furthermore, such monomaniacal obsession with a person’s sexual orientation usually reveals something hidden in the obsessor.
“Why can’t you just admit we have a girly man as POTUS.”
Because I’m not a sexist dickhead who uses terms like “girly man,” asshole.
Are you tired of this extreme left wing commie slut Chris yet? The wannabe 19th century negro burner? At least Crazy Bob is funny. Chris is just a mindless boor.
By the way, the POTUS is not a girly man. He is just a man who should have never been elected president.
Enough of the thread hijacking.
Yes, the USDA is like just about every government agency. It seeks money and control. Post Scripts knows this and I thank them for pointing it out.
Let the sexist dickhead wannabe negro burner Chris figure it out for himself.
Crazy Bob: Chris reads into what he has been programmed to read. Have fun with it.
Chris: “Again, why do you care?”
So your position is that it’s okay for the government to throw tax dollars down a toilet for a feel good scheme when that money could have been used to a much better end?
Thought so. You are as irresponsible and loyal to the socialist utopian dream as the next brown shirt/red radical.
And it is the responsibility of adults to financially prepare even before having children. In this age of birth control and abstinence there is no excuse for doing otherwise. Parents bear the responsibility for the care and feeding of their children!
If we don’t socially hold people accountable to this standard, people will take the easy way out and let others pick up the responsibility.
Entitlement thinking breeds entitlement and is NOT compassionate. We need to support people in directing their lives away from entitlement and toward empowerment to care for themselves and their own children.
Why are you against that?
By the way, a kid that eats a burger or a slice of pizza for lunch is going to be healthier and do better in school than a kid that doesn’t eat and is hungry. Its the kids who do need to depend on school lunches that are getting screwed by this program…duh!
Chris is surprised that someone would insult this president…amazing! he had no problem insulting the former president and with a certain amount of glee if I recall.
Chris is programmed to monitor other people.
Most liberals do…they are some of the most obviously judgmental people around! In denial, of course, and unable to see the humor when sacred cows are involved!
Dewey: “Explain why you think labeling food and the right to not eat fake Monsanto GMO is wrong”
How does this question have anything to do with failing school lunch programs?
I want the right to eat original food and have it labeled….
Great! Start your own company and label the food you produce and package however you like! Join a commune and grow your own. You are a free man…utilize the blessing!
“Monsanto says they will pick your Presidential Candidates”
Quotes please…original documents please!
“…and have you arguing against the other side…yet they own both!”
What is the argument of the “other side”?
And what is the alternative to private property rights, free markets, and freedom of choice that you prefer?
You have a choice…don’t buy Monsanto products or stock…grow your own…join a cooperative or commune. Think instead of blathering on!
and have you arguing against the other side…yet they own both! – See more at: http://www.norcalblogs.com/postscripts/2014/06/03/usda-spend-1-9-million-build-facility-figure-mnipulate-food-choices/#sthash.L97klI0B.dpuf
Pie: “He is just a man who should have never been elected president.”
Yes…and we at Post Scripts said so from the start.
Pie we have asked before but perhaps you were not with us then. What would you like to see at PS that we are not providing? We are interested in all suggestions.
Tina: “The kids aren’t healthier…just hungrier under Michelle’s black bean burger debacle of a plan!”
Chris: “Again, why do you care?”
Tina: “So your position is that it’s okay for the government to throw tax dollars down a toilet for a feel good scheme when that money could have been used to a much better end?”
Tina, look at this exchange again. I was not responding to your argument about proper use of tax dollars. I was responding to your argument about hungry children.
You have said many times–even if your last comment–that it is the parents’ responsibility to feed their children, not the schools.’
My statement “Why do you care?” was meant to point out how disingenuous you are being when you make the “hungry children” argument. Since you don’t believe it is the schools’ responsibility to feed the children, your “hungry children” argument was a red herring. You do this quite often; you make arguments that you don’t actually agree with in principal just so you can add to your seemingly endless supply of rhetorical ammo. It doesn’t matter to you whether one argument contradicts another. You just throw everything to the wall to see what sticks.
You’re not a logical person, and thus cannot be convinced using logic.
“Chris is surprised that someone would insult this president…amazing!”
Does it ever bother you, how extremely dishonest you have to be in order to pretend like you’re winning an argument?
I obviously am not surprised that someone would “insult” the president. The president has done many things that are deserving of insult. But calling him “that Muslim in the White House,” and using sexist and homophobic slurs, is NOT just “insulting the president.” It’s insulting Muslims, and it’s insulting
women, and it’s insulting gays.
You have cried anti-Christian bigotry over jokes FAR more mild than any in that disgusting list Bob linked to. You’ve called class warfare and said that white men are persecuted, blah blah blah…you are oh-so-sensitive whenever it comes to the privileged, but when actual minorities are under attack, you switch to “Jeez, why can’t you whiners take a joke?”
“he had no problem insulting the former president and with a certain amount of glee if I recall.”
Yes. I insulted the individual. I did not use bigoted or hateful language to put him down for his *immutable characteristics.* I never once called him a closet homosexual or said he wasn’t a “real man.” I never insulted his wife’s looks.
There are liberals who do these things, and they are wrong. I’ve stood up to many a lefty who thought it would be hilarious to make a “Mann Coulter” joke. And I’ve seen many other liberals do the same.
This isn’t about being a hall monitor. Standing against bigoted “humor” is important. When liberals make sexist jokes about Ann Coulter or fat jokes about Chris Christie, or even “poor white trash” jokes about Southern conservatives, they are perpetuating the same tired bullshit that the left as a whole is designed to fight against.
You have every reason to stand up to similar jokes made by the right. When the right makes these kinds of jokes against their targets, it just reinforces the notion that you are bigots. Is that how you want people to see you? If not, you need to call out BS like Bob’s link when you see it. Or you can just go on whining and acting like the idea that conservatives are bigoted is just some liberal conspiracy, while you tolerate actual, clear bigotry within your ranks. Your choice.
Tina: “In denial, of course, and unable to see the humor when sacred cows are involved!”
Tina, do you truly believe that referring to Ellen DeGeneres as “Lesbian Ellen Degenerate” is funny? And that I’m just being a humorless stick in the mud “unable to see the humor” in such a joke?
A yes or no will suffice.
I am fighting for a world in which little boys are not bullied for being perceived as gay or less than a “real” man. I am fighting for a world where women are not judged by their looks any more than men are. I am fighting for a world where femininity is not used synonymously with weakness, to the point where being feminine is considered the worst possible thing a man can be, and where anyone who steps out of established gender roles is labeled a “degenerate.”
To paraphrase Bush, you’re either with me on this fight, or you’re against me. If you’re against me, you bet your ass I’m going to keep “monitoring” you and calling you out whenever you support regressive, harmful sexism. This isn’t about the president. The guy can defend himself. This is about our culture and all those little boys and girls out there who are told every day that they’re not good enough, not man enough, not woman enough. And I know every single commenter here can relate to a time when they felt less than just because they weren’t living up to what the perfect man or perfect woman should be. Is that the world you want your children and grandchildren to grow up in? I don’t.
Bob’s link is an extreme example of this type of gender policing, but less overt bigotry happens on a daily basis in this country and it’s time for it to stop. The idea that we have to at all times act like “real men” or “real women” is tyrannical and collectivist, and it ends with my generation.
Because I’m not a sexist dickhead who uses terms like “girly man,” asshole.
Let’s see… from this and other posts I am an asshole, bigoted, crazy, a radical, sexist, a dickhead according to Chris. I’m probably missing other colorful adjectives….
So Tina wants to know what we would like to see on this blog? How about a Chris filter?
Yes Chris it is funny that Ellen’s name so closely resembles the word degenerate. Sick humor has been part of the comic scene for many years. Tune in to any liberal humorist and you will find countless examples…Sarah Palin, Michelle Malkin, and Michelle Backman have all been the butts of ugly yuks. If I recall you may have denounced such things but you have also engaged in labeling and targeting them.
Grow up Chris.
Tina, there is a difference between criticizing someone for their behavior and criticizing them for an immutable characteristic. Sexual orientation is an immutable characteristic. So is gender.
You are correct that I have denounced sexist and racist jokes about the women you name. To the extent that I have “labeled” and “targeted” them, it has been in the pursuit of calling out their own lies and bigotry. I use facts and logic to show how these individuals are doing damage to our political process and our national discourse. I do not judge them as women, but as people.
I do not use bigotry to fight bigotry. “You cannot dismantle the master’s house using the master’s tools.” –Audre Lorde
Grown-ups realize that certain types of jokes are best left on the playground (and that some of them do a lot of damage there as well).
