HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY 2014

It is of particular importance this July 4th to remind ourselves that we are a nation of states united in freedom.

As the founders debated, argued, and made speeches to gain approval for the formation of our Constitution a constant theme was present in their thoughts: preserving individual freedom. The founders therefore took great pains to devise a sytem of unifying government that would guard against tyrannical control.
Alexander Hamilton:

I go further, and affirm that bills of rights, in the sense and to the extent in which they are contended for, are not only unnecessary in the proposed Constitution, but would even be dangerous. They would contain various exceptions to powers not granted; and on this very account, would afford a colorable pretext to claim more than were granted. For why declare that things shall not be done which there is no power to do? – Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 84, 1788

As you spend time with family and friends celebrating our great good fortune to live in the United States of America remember too that we owe it to our children to pass along the value of individual freedom, the true history of our nation and it’s founding, and appreciation for those who have served, bled, and died in sacrifice that our great good fortune will continue. !

Enjoy the day…and God bless America

Your faithful fellows and patriots at PS, Jack and Tina

I can’t think of a more fitting comment to begin this thread for 2014:

“Heart of a Lion: Quadruple Amputee Afghanistan vet prepares for arm transplant,” Jennifer Griffin, Fox News

Marine Sgt. John Peck is one of very few quadruple amputees to survive the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now he is preparing for his next mission: an experimental double-arm transplant that will give him, in part, his freedom back.

“No more prosthetics,” Peck told Fox News. “I’m going to get cadaver arms from a donor, and they’re going to do a 16-hour surgery with 12-16 doctors and reattach bone, using titanium plates, reattaching nerves, blood vessels, tendons, and muscles.”

He is not the first quadruple amputee to undergo such a surgery, which remains experimental. Brendan Marrocco, a soldier injured in Iraq, went through the same transplant surgery nearly two years ago. He is now doing pull-ups.

“I’m a very proud person. Very independent,” Peck said, while holding his 2-year-old son in the lap of his wheelchair.

“For me to ask for an ounce of help, I’m stubborn. You can ask her,” he said, pointing to his fiancee Stacey. “I am a mule. It’s ‘can you help me open this?’ and I kind of put my head down — it’s a jar. Something as simple as a jar. Or a wrapper on a cereal bar, something like that. It’s nearly impossible for me to open it.”

Peck was injured in Helmand province on May 24, 2010.”

Wisdom and knowledge about the challenges we face as a nation is offered up this 4th of July by a contemporary scholar Prof. Bruce Thornton, Frontpage Magazine. He begins with the Declaration of Independence:

The key point is that rights are not the gifts of men, for such rights can be taken back by the same power that bestows them. Rather, they are the defining elements of human nature bestowed by the “Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.” Individual autonomy is the birthright of all, and can be limited only by the consent of the people, who establish collective power residing in government for specific, limited purposes, and they can take that power back when government exceeds those legitimate purposes. A decade later the framers of the Constitution would enumerate these limited powers and institutionalize the purposes for which they can be used. Thus the significance of the Declaration must be found in the political order created a decade later to institutionalize the principles of 1776.

He continues on through the Wilson presidency to modern progressivism and the assault on individual autonomy.

Must reading after too much fun…enjoy.

At least in Colorado they have some common sense:

The licenses will look similar to regular Colorado licenses, but there will be one significant difference: a black banner that says it is not valid for federal identification, voting or public benefit purposes.

Just an ID for work and driving.

The one finger solute is a nice touch on the one young lady.

Hope you all had a wonderful 4th.

Re #11 Tina : The Democratic Party and Obama are doing their best to kill it. A nation of slave-voters dependent upon government.

I saw that last night Pie…didn’t have the heart to give it wings on the front page of Post Scripts.

The President is using people in his quest for a permanent one party system and the fundamental transformation of America. I’m not sure it won’t backfire, ultimately, with young American born Latino’s remaining jobless in high numbers. (7.7% overall) It’s closer to 20% for teens.

The left plays games with peoples lives in pursuit of power.
