13 Jun 07, “Results from a new poll by the Wall Street Journal and NBC News show President Bush with his lowest approval rating ever. According to the poll, which was conducted between June 8 and June 11, Bush has a 29% approval rating, with 66% of respondents disapproving of his handling of the presidency. Results of the poll were published late Wednesday by the Wall Street Journal. In addition, only 19% of
Americans say the U.S. is now “headed in the right direction,” and 68% say things in the U.S. are “off on the wrong track,” the Wall Street Journal report said. The poll was conducted by Republican Neil Newhouse and Democrat Peter Hart, and carries a margin for error of 3.1 percentage points, the report said.”
The GOP held Congress and the White House and they had 7 years to fix illegal immigration and control the deficit and they blew it. We still have an open border, with drugs, criminals and who knows who or what flooding in. Our debt’s risen to $11,434 for every man, women and child in the USA. $1.3 trillion, but if you use the accounting system that only the federal government uses they will tell you the debt is only about $248 billion? The government doesn’t track the gross national debt, but if they did we would actually be $8.8 trillion in the red according to most best estimates.
These two issues, a staggering debt and an out of control immigration situation are enough to undercut the confidence in any presidency and obviously it’s taken it’s toll on Bush. I only wish it ended there.
Bush’s foreign policy is in a word, confusing. For example it had us supporting Muslim agressors against Christians defending their historic homeland, i.e. Serbia. I heard a conservative talk show host the other day say it looks like Bush finished what Clinton started, regarding Serbia/Kosovo situation. That’s pretty sad, and it’s gained us nothing. Our foreign policy seems dissociated and unaware.
On a lesser included note, Bush’s dealings with Russia’s Putin have left many of his supporters shaking their heads in disbelief. For the sake of brevity let’s just say Putin wasn’t impressed by Bush’s casual fratboy diplomacy and that got him embarassed more than once when his “ol buddy Putty” ripped him a new one in the press, just to let him know he wasn’t his, “Ol buddy Putty!
My pet peeve is Homeland Security. It’s been pretty much worthless, but it’s been really, really expensive! The good thing is, a lot of county fairgrounds in middle American got security lights to scare away terrorists lurking in the shadows. Even the Tehema county fair got some. No, I know, it’s not funny and the list of misspent money in the name of security only compounds the damage of 9/11.
Prescription drug plan, again I could talk volumes on this, but lets just reduce it too more bureaucracy and huge costs. At best it’s a confusing system with a mediocre end result.
It would be only too easy to talk about the mistakes in Iraq, so I can’t bring myself to go there – it’s just too much. And you wonder why Bush’s poll numbers are at 29%? I can’t wait for Fred, Rudy or Newt to take over. If we are ever going to get this nation and the GOP back on the tracks we’ve got to make some drastic changes in leadership, but God help us if that drastic change is… Hillary!
