Dr. Ben Carson on Benghazi and IRS Scandals

Posted by Tina

Dr. Carson gets it on Benghazi:

“This should not be a partisan issue, because the implications of ignoring or prevaricating about the underlying mistakes will have far-reaching consequences. The United States has diplomatic establishments throughout the world, and if they can be attacked without consequences, it greatly diminishes our influence despite any protestations to the contrary.

When our top officials make decisions to abandon our own people because they feel the situation is hopeless, they also abandon the concept of American exceptionalism and create doubt in the minds of all future military participants about the intention of their superiors to expend maximum effort to preserve their lives when they have sacrificed everything for our nation.”

He gets it on the IRS Scandal:

“Obviously, the IRS was used in inappropriate ways, or Lois Lerner would not have pleaded the Fifth Amendment. It is more than disturbing that the president of the United States and many in his party feigned outrage when the inappropriate actions of the IRS initially were exposed but now cannot lend support to a full and unfettered investigation of activities that threaten the very liberty of the American people.”

Thank you Dr. Ben Carson. The usual gang of progressives may now start squealing.

I know those currently serving in our military can’t speak out on the subject, but wonder how they feel knowing their Commander in Chief may do the same to them. Leaving those four men to die and the 30 plus others in harms way for almost 20 hours has to weigh heavy on their minds.

Also, wonder how the volunteer sign-ups is fairing, since we don’t currently have a draft. It’s one thing to volunteer to give your life fighting for your country believing your country won’t leave you behind. It’s another when you know they already did leave men to die and no one came to help.

If I was in the military I’d get out if I was expecting to serve overseas. And if I was young enough to enlist, I wouldn’t. Not under this commander.

Heard Jay Sekulow this morning say he would be filing a civil suit against Lerner.

ACLJ praises Lerner contempt charge, eyes civil lawsuit:

“Sekulow says while the contempt of Congress motion authorizes U.S. Attorney Eric Holder to file criminal charges, he doubts the Obama-appointed official would do so.

The other option, he says, would be a civil lawsuit.

“And that lawsuit would focus on whether or not she has to testify because of the statements she made,” Sekulow explains. “Did she waive her 5th Amendment right when she made that long and very specific opening statement to the House Oversight Committee? That will be before the courts.”

Citing a GOP investigation, The Washington Times reported this week that the IRS audited 10 percent of donors to tea party organizations, a higher-than-normal rate than typical taxpayers experience.

The same newspaper story reminded readers that the IRS denied targeting tea party groups until an internal investigation confirmed it. The IRS demanded and received membership lists from tea party groups, and a check of those names by Republicans showed many had been audited after contributing.

The continuing persecution of conservative groups by the IRS has resulted in a pushback, says Sekulow, explaining that people are no longer afraid to challenge the IRS, and the IRS meanwhile is not used to that lack of fear.

“They’re used to everyone kind of being afraid of them,” says the ACLJ attorney. “Now people are speaking out.”

What happened at the IRS, he says, was the blatant targeting of Americans because of their political views, sidestepping the Constitution, and violating the trust of the American people.”
