The Tea Party group that was severely targeted by IRS and other government agencies has filed a lawsuit in Mississippi alleging that the Secretary of State and the states GOP “failed to properly abide by federal election record maintenance and open records provisions codified in the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.” The Washington Examiner quotes Catherine Englebrecht, founder of True the Vote:
All we are asking is that the Mississippi State Republican Party follow the law; allow their designated country representatives to inspect the poll books and ballots, give them the review time they are permitted by law and allow them to uphold their responsibility. True the Vote has been inundated with reports from voters across Mississippi who are outraged to see the integrity of this election being undermined so that politicos can get back to business as usual. Enough is enough.
As the Examiner reporter notes, opening the votes could shed daylight on vote counting shenanigans committed by both political parties. Resistance will be great, but isn’t this kind of exposure exactly what the citizens of this country should be demanding? Isn’t the goal to demand a higher standard from not only those people who represent us in either party but also those who work to get candidate elected?
Catherine Englebrecht is a true patriot. God bless her and her mission!
free speech?
Like I said Black Mississippi dems were asked to vote and they did.
Why Was Miss. Tea Partier In Locked Courthouse With Ballots On Election Night?
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/mississippi-tea-party-courthouse-locked-in
A True American patriot wants to bust open these corrupt bought out politicians that Citizens United has put on steroids…
Now what is wrong with this response? I thought you wanted to have a real conversation?
I think Florida had this problem a few years back. If memory serves, the results brought all American’s together singing Kum bay ya. It was truly a very proud moment in our history.
Dewey you are always critical of us but what’s the gripe today? We reported the bad behavior by the GOP incumbent who solicited help from Democrats to win. slimy situation that may result in arrests and a change in the results.
There is literally nothing of substance (yet) to report on that wrongdoing or on the woman in the courthouse. Nothing was disturbed, a police officer directed her in through an open door, she phoned someone to let her out after being locked in. she’s not talking, probably on advice of council. No crime has been committed as far as anyone can tell. Duh…it’s a story lacking story at the moment.
I’m willing to have a conversation but you have to give me more than why haven’t you posted a story that has no substance.
Tina,
You’d be up in arms had a Dem. entered a Rep. governor’s office without permission. I’ve read several articles on this and they all said the same thing. Republican Leaders entered the locked private offices of the Democratic Governor on Father’s Day without permission. They had already been told that nobody would be there. They took advantage of the Governor not being there to drop off the budget early so the Gov. wouldn’t have as much time to review its contents.
Would you like me in your office without permission? I’d get fired if I entered my supervisors office without permission. Maybe you’re not being hypocritical, but it sure seems that way.
BTW…I never thought of a candidate asking for votes as slimy. Why didn’t the other guy think of asking for their votes?
Pete, keep in mind you’re talking to a woman who believes Watergate was a “prank,” but the Obama administration correctly identifying the Benghazi attack as being motivated by an anti-Islam video is the biggest presidential scandal in American history.
Tell me Pete, that is if you are old enough to remember, how upset were you when Tip O’Neill delivered a bill that was a good 18 inches thick giving President Reagan only a few hours to review and sign before the government shut down?
Unfortunately this stuff goes on all the time.
Second, dropping off a bill to a public building/office (Even when the Governor was not there) is not illegal or wrong as far as I know. What would have happened had they waited and he had even less time?
The GOP incumbent in Mississippi was using slimy tactics in my opinion. I think it is slimy (possibly illegal?) to buy votes. See also here.
I also think its slimy to lie to black people and scare them to death to influence their votes. Some people would call it voter intimidation by stealth.
It was not my intent to be hypocritical. I was simply pointing out that until we have something substantial to report it isn’t worth the front page treatment. We did post the story immediately about the GOP shenanigans.
I have to say here too that the accusations of KKK connections on the part of the Tea party candidate are based on a donation from a man that has also donated to Democrats. A donation does not equal affiliation or agreement on the part of the candidate. That charge was unfounded and designed, as was paying for votes, to undermine the truth and the result in the election. (Also to paint me/conservatives/Tea Party people as KKK lovers in case you missed it).
You are right about Republicans needing to do a better job of communicating to black citizens and that includes asking for their votes. Stay tuned, the effort is being made, Mississippi notwithstanding. We have quite a number of very good minority governors and congresspersons and candidates. It’s a little crazy that we have to reestablish ourselves since we were the pioneers of the civil rights movement but have been tarred and feathered by the Democrats who were actually the guilty party prior to the Great Society of LBJ.
Tina,
My sincerest apology. I believe I got confused on the “scandal” to which you were referring. This is the reason I like to focus on larger topics…all the little things that happen in politics seem to run together. Again, I apologize for my mistake.
Sincerely,
Pete
Tina
That is a question. And a darn good one. No one is innocent in that race. The looser is a whiny bigot.
In these Citizens United days where candidates are bullied into doing as the money says or be primaried the system is about 99% polluted.
No substance? yes there is a very big question on that whole race.
Also who were the candidates?
The winner implied he had indiscretions with farm animals in a taped speech! lol could not believe that one!
The looser has links to neo racist orgs.
So the winner is the one who told Black voters I will harm you less than my opponent if you go out and vote for me?
So what was wrong with that? It was honest at least.
Let’s have a conversation about cleaning up our political system. Legislation for the people is extinct. The donors have complete control over Congress.
That race is the epitomeof what is wrong i n America.
What is so honorable about your Tea Party candidate? He lost and now is throwing a fit. Both candidates played dirty. I am more concerned on why these guys were even candidates ever and why is corruption OK?
Look at Christie. Look at Walker. Look at Blagojevich. Corruption has no party.
Why is it that everything Tea Party is so honest and Grand? Corruption is everywhere.
There is this group of people who overlook the democracy has turned into an Oligarchy.
The founding fathers said the people were the supreme power and their weapon was their vote.
We allow the donors to pick the candidates then support them to the end no matter what they do? I say not.
Democracy is not a spectator sport. Why is it OK for the Koch Brothers to pull 300 billionaires to dana point to plan how to control the senate and make sure Hilliary is never president? 300 Billionaires who want something back from those elected.
Come on Tina why is this guy so important other than he is Tea Party?
No problem just strolling through the building where the ballots are, no coincidence at all? Give me a break
Also Tina I always am pleased to let someone have an opposing view. What I do not agree with is Propaganda. Sorry but we are surrounded by it . I think it is worse than germany was. The media is getting rich off that superpac money and the messages are controlled.
So when some one posts a fact it is called a lie, rubbish or whatever.
It would be more productive to learn facts and discuss the subject using them. Agree to disagree on opinion however do not promote the political lies.
Look Obviously you are Tea party hey great! more power to you! I do not want to get rid of social security and do not agree with the Koch agenda. I have that right to defend against the Koch boyz.
The usual gang of a**holes with their personal attacks on Tina have nothing to do with the issue raised.
The man in the mirror has Blueberry PIE all over his face
Attacks? Lets see who does the name calling? Nor were there personal attacks on Tina… education is a good thing
How about stopping the attacks Pie?
No one here comes in bad faith
For the record I do not think the entire Watergate episode was “a prank”.
I do think that compared to many things that have happened since then, the event that sparked the Watergate political witch hunt, and that is exactly what it was, resulted in the President making egregious errors in judgement that became the real scandal of Watergate. The break in was college level prank-ish and immature.
jack here is a piece of audio..
Cochran media town hall call by phone..
http://www.clarionledger.com/story/dailyledes/2014/07/02/cochran-conference-call/12105085/
Thad Cochran devolved into a interuption match and then ended, after which time supporters of GOP primary challenger Chris McDaniel chatted for a bit.
Look we need to stop these tactics and get down to real election integrity
I personally would not have voted for either one of those guys neither has integrity
Uh Dewey, as long as you use the tactics of personal attack, you are going to whine about me tossing that crap right back in your silly face?
God knows I needed that laugh.
Dewey I appreciate the effort to be more civil. It helps a lot when you focus on one or two points at a time.
Having said that, and in response to your general tone and behavior over the past several weeks:
You spend very little time posting anything that could be described as fact so your constant admonishing of others on that score is ridiculous and a complete waste of time…ours and yours.
You express your delight at, or disdain for, many conspiracy theories…not interested.
You toggle around in history in a manner that makes it impossible to follow much less try to discuss events or trends.
You accuse people of things without actual supportive evidence…Michael Moore type yammering doesn’t count as fact.
You clutter your comments with many points, none of them fleshed out or substantive in nature.
You try to direct the blog, telling us what we should post…not interested!
You complain about and treat those who participate here as your lessors. I don’t appreciate it and I know it wears on others.
I like having new people contribute…emphasis contribute.
The erratic nature of your comments contribute very little…we are fortunate if you bother to comment on the subject at hand with even a single sentence.
You have lied directly about a comment you directed toward me, which I did not post, and which caused me to block your comments for a time in Jacks absence. It was rude and crude, though subtle; the kind of thing I would not subject others to, especially young people, nor should YOU! I doubt you would want someone (a stranger on the internet) to speak that way to a daughter or wife.
You have also claimed to be “embedded” and have made comments suggesting you were attempting to investigate my background. I have no idea if you were/are playing for real or just messing with me but I don’t appreciate it either way. I’m not impressed by internet “embeds” that are titillated by underhanded computer abilities…I consider them one of the lower forms of life.
Jack started this blog to discuss politics and have some fun discussing the events of the day. I joined him for the same reason. I thought that we could also learn from each other and others. Initially we made an big effort to keep remarks friendly and civil. We have wavered from that honorable beginning as remarks have become more contentious and personal. I can handle contentious disagreement but I cannot abide bad or sneaky, underhanded behavior. I will not abide lewd comments or stalker-like innuendo. Taking time to handle this junk is not fun, enlightening, or educational.
I ask you to please refrain from making any further comments that would be considered crude and to show more respect to Jack, to me, and to our guests at Post Scripts, a blog group that has tried to welcome and include you.
Pete, apology accepted, I very much appreciate the sincerity behind the kind and gentlemanly gesture, although a simple explanation would have been enough.
Your comments and opinions are always welcome, in fact, I’m thinking maybe what we need is some new blood, we’ve been punching and scrapping like a bunch of children and we often loose our focus. It’s good to be reminded about what we’re doing here.
In case you can’t figure it out in the tangle, PS is a conservative blog founded by Jack. I am also conservative and was pleased to be asked to be his writing partner several years ago. We do welcome anyone to our discussions and expect it to be lively.
Tina Hello
If you want to say something is not a fact then bring up a point. If something is wrong it can be corrected. However They are facts.
The name calling around here does not lead to civility
I take issue with this statement
“You spend very little time posting anything that could be described as fact so your constant admonishing of others on that score is ridiculous and a complete waste of time…ours and yours. –
let’s deal with that…. I am not making this stuff up I have done extensive research into the Tea Party and go to meetings, record town halls. I look up actual documents
So lets deal with these supposed untrue facts
Name them..
Just because one does not agree des not make it untrue.
I can not imagine how these public facts are not known to you! Surely Fox news is not your main source of information.
And Pie I am not speaking to you. I read your tweets and have no desire to communicate with you. I have yet to call anybody a name here. Also if you think you get me goat think again. There are others reading this.
The lefties, Liberals ect ect are not the whole problem with the world. I will not tolerate crap from either the left or the right. However there is way more civility on their blogs. They actually share info and talk.
Being Conservative is an ideology. No I am not going to vote for anymore conservative policies Reaganomics and Bush did me in. But if you do not think I do not realize the dems are bought out think again.
So why does the Tea Party not run as a 3rd Party? Why did they Bully our republican party?
Conservatives need to run as 3rd party conservatives. Also try showing how the privatization and conservative policies have done this country so much good. Economics show they were bad. Ayn rand is not some goddess of economics she took social security before she died.
and Tina? You have lied directly about a comment you directed toward me, which I did not post, and which caused me to block your comments for a time in Jacks absence. – what comment …if I did I would apologize after you apologize for the awful comments directed at me.
I have made an effort not to call names. Tina you attack me all the time. In fact you get out right mean sometimes
@ #6 Tina:
Hi Tina, I wasn’t old enough to vote during Reagan’s first term, but did vote for him in his second. I do remember Tip O’Neal delivering the last minute budget and I didn’t like it at all.
Here’s some background on me. I was born in Colusa (farming/ranching family), first registered as a republican in 1983, reregistered as a democrat in 1989 (after discharge from Air Force), now registered independent.
I’ll vote for whomever I feel is the best candidate for an office no matter the party. I do not vote based on a party affiliation for I think it limits one’s ability to be unbiased when reviewing candidates or issues.
I protested against the Iraq war because I didn’t think Iraq had WMD (other than the ones we gave them) and because I felt there would be no way to get out of Iraq once we were there.
On social issues I tend to be fairly liberal and on fiscal issues I tend to be more conservative. I like to really think about an issue before coming to decision. To me our world is hardly ever black and white, it’s shades of grey.
Pete thanks for sharing a bit about your age and history and thank you very much for your service to our country.
I used to think that the world was made of shades of grey but I am finding that in many instances, the black and white of an issue or candidate is more about right and wrong or Constitutional or not…but it requires deeper investigation to discover that sometimes, certainly more than we get from the usual news outlets.
Anyway, welcome aboard. I look forward to reading your views and opinions as we once again head into election season.
Sorry Dewey, your tossing about slurs of racism, fascism, and bigotry and such is a form of a name calling. But then, you are far to clever to see that, no?
Drop dead.
