Update: Caliphate

Posted by Tina

Muslims involved in terror organizations in Iraq and Syria believe their mission comes directly from the founder of Islam. Implications are considered by Robert Spencer at National Review:

The caliphate was abolished by the secular Turkish government in 1924. The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in 1928 partly as a reaction to the end of the caliphate, and from the beginning a central part of its program has been the need to work toward restoring it and then recovering lands that had been lost to Islam. Brotherhood founder Hasan al-Banna explained:

We want the Islamic flag to be hoisted once again on high, fluttering in the wind, in all those lands that have had the good fortune to harbor Islam for a certain period of time and where the muzzein’s call sounded in the takbirs and the tahlis. Then fate decreed that the light of Islam be extinguished in these lands that returned to unbelief. Thus Andalusia, Sicily, the Balkans, the Italian coast, as well as the islands of the Mediterranean, are all of them Muslim Mediterranean colonies and they must return to the Islamic fold. The Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea must once again become Muslim seas, as they once were.

The kind of government that would then be established would not be a pluralistic democracy by any stretch of the imagination. Hamza Tzortzis of the Britain-based Islamic Education and Research Academy has stated this plainly:

We as Muslims reject the idea of freedom of speech, and even the idea of freedom. We see under the Khilafa [caliphate], when people used to engage in a positive way, this idea of freedom was redundant, it was unnecessary, because the society understood under the education system of the Khilafa state, and under the political framework of Islam, that people must engage with each other in a positive and productive way to produce results.*

The desired results, obviously, have nothing to do with freedom as it is understood in Western societies.(Emphasis added for clarity)

I hope you will read the entire, very informative article.

Sounds like you all, harkening after that pre-New-Deal America.

Ah … it is what it is … and is unlikely to change.

You can’t really think that the Italians are susceptible to some sort of mass conversion to Islam? Such a fear strikes me as irrational.

  2. Dewey says:

How about we look at some of the stuff our media is not reporting

What is Putin up to? Russia is pissed at us for using the no fly zone to get Gaddafi after we told them we would not use the no fly zone…fact from Russian news sources

Now there is Russian talk of a no fly zone over eastern Ukraine… why so they can demolish their army? why

Then add the fact we have a picture of Mccain posing with neo-fascists saying America is with you

Money runs our country and what will it buy in all this mess?

Again we may go down a very very bad road… We have a congress that is stifle the president at all costs… do not work together for a better America… my way or the highway mentality

Obama has never been my favorite guy but I just do not like the untrue propaganda as a sport

How about we get real news out that is being hidden from us…?

WW3 is an actual possibility and the Russians have reserved the right to use nuclear weapons . Also Russia has an estimated 10,000 nuclear battlefield devices and NATO and the US have about 500….

When Obama tried to get Puttie to sign a no nuclear treaty the Russians said to Putin… no do not do it, what if we get into a situation….just like the one we have now…

Time to cut the crap and try to get the real news

This is not a football game of kill the left

here is an interesting link to monitor

Also these candidates the money picks for both parties are not qualified

  3. Pie Guevara says:

Thanks Tina. The usual extreme left wing morons blather on in the comments section.

  4. Tina says:

Well after falling under the spell of Mussolini one would hope not, Libby. But you liberals have not learned one damn thing about economic policy after six years under the man who promised transparency, a thriving economy, good jobs, and lowering that irresponsible, unpatriotic debt. so learning from history is a long shot.

At present the call is to Muslims all around the world to return to the newly formed Islamic state in order to create a strong force for conquering the world starting with the area described so the Italians, among others, have been warned.

Your general flippant attitude is interesting, probably representative of that big liberal heart.

  5. Tina says:

I knew you and others would appreciate it, Pie.

  6. Tina says:

Dewey you really should consider running your own blog.

  7. Libby says:

Hmmmm, yes, well, the Caliph and his call have been likened to that of a fella called Jim Jones, who founded a religious utopia of his own … and we know how that turned out.

Untwist those knickers, girl. The end is not quite yet at hand.

  8. Pie Guevara says:

    Re #6 Tina :

    ^5s!

I concur. A Dewey blog would be a slam dunk internet hit. He could reveal all the hidden news and garner followers by the millions revealing the truth. If Libby were to join him in that endeavor it would be a power team made in heaven. If Chris were to join in that would create a triumvirate which would rule the internet. Of course, all under the watchful and guiding hand of their silent mentor and spiritual leader Joe Shaw.

The Puffington Host, the Daily Kos, Salon, Mother Jones, Pacifica, and The Nation would stand in awe of this power trio. The fallout alone from who was the most emo would rocket them to internet stardom.

    I am all for it.

  10. Tina says:

Dewey writes that he already has two blogs, “LOL we have some blogs… 2 of them as a matter of fact…we come here to keep up with the local tea parties.”

He writes this following a narcissistic brag about the millions who would flock to a Dewey blog.

Who exactly is “we,” I wonder? (As if it mattered)

    Greenfield nails it. Thanks Pie.

Blame the actions of the USA since the 70’s or before

Everything wrong in the world is Obama’s fault now move on

  14. Pie Guevara says:

Re #10 Dewey : “we come here to keep up with the local tea parties”

Who is this “we” you speak of? Are you ashamed or afraid to identify yourselves?

  15. Harold says:

Who is this “we” you speak of? Are you ashamed or afraid to identify yourselves? –

Most likely “We” are Dewey himself and himself, or the other two phony names he uses to post with!

‘Who is this “we” you speak of? Are you ashamed or afraid to identify yourselves?

  16. Dewey says:

Exactly. “WE” fear for our lives and against bullying. “We are northern california Citizens”.

Our goal is to understand and work toward solutions to this obstruction of Democracy.

We stand by the Constitution and do not want it dismantled by the wealthy few for their agenda.

My name is Dewey. Anyone else will sign in with their name. But we all read it.

Trust is earned not given. Pie you call me names constantly. Your tweets are very very aggressive. Why would anyone give out their info here?

again I know this has been called a lie…it is not..

Explain to me when the federal law states 501 4c is “exclusively for social welfare” and IRS regulations were changed around 1959 to not follow US Federal law passed by Congress.. Why should any political organization should be tax free? And why is it ok to hide the names of big money donors in these non profits?

  17. Peggy says:

Baghdadi, ISIS leader and terrorist we released in 2009 from a detention camp, told his captures, “I’ll see you in New York,” is planning to keep his promise.

Leader of ‘Islamic State:’ ‘You Will Conquer Rome’ Next and ‘Own the World’:

“This is my advice to you – if you hold to it you will conquer Rome and own the world,” said Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of ISIL, the militant group that has taken over much of Iraq.

“Those who can immigrate to the Islamic State should immigrate, as immigration to the house of Islam is a duty,” he said in an audio recording released on a website used by ISIS, reports The Telegraph.

“Rush O Muslims to your state. It is your state. Syria is not for Syrians and Iraq is not for Iraqis. The land is for the Muslims, all Muslims.” Baghdadi has a PhD in Islamic studies.

Baghdadi says he is speaking as the first Caliph, or commander of the Islamic faithful since the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire, he called on Muslims to rally to his pan-Islamic state.”

  18. Peggy says:

I honestly think Dewey’s “we” are all living inside of his head.

  19. Post Scripts says:

Dewey, what is the URL of your blog?

  20. Post Scripts says:

Libby, I think it’s good to know the intentions of radical Muslim leaders, don’t you? It’s called being proactive, rather than reactive after the bombs go off and buildings come down. I like being proactive and here we have a message of intent, and its focused on very specific countries and regions. I’m sure they (countries on the hit list) are not taking these threats lightly. I would think just making such a declaration against these countries would be enough for their foreign service agents to go hunting, if you know what I mean?

Radical Islamic leaders are the new Nazi’s, their fervor, bigotry and goals of conquest are for all intents the same as Hitler’s. The free and moral nations of the world better recognize this evil and work together to eliminate the radical leadership. They ought to join up with all those millions and millions of moderate Muslims eager to see the radicals fail (snicker) and put an end to this murder and mayhem in the name Allah.

  21. Dewey says:

I own blogs to which a group of people from all over the USA contribute. We all met online during 2011 election campaign stories. It links to everyone of their personal blogs.

Therefore with all the hostility I will not divulge it. Too many people involved. Some have had high profile media in the past. I would have loved to share but the hostility and derogatory comments against any difference of opinion makes it not possible. These are good citizens trying to get a voice and finally stand up!

It is a shame when Americans reach out to others willing to debate issues with facts that there are some who do not respond with good intentions.

We need a political revolution. A United one with a populist agenda for all human being Citizens.

Peace in our land. Everybody can get along without dictating their personal beliefs to the rest of the country.

You have the right to live a peaceful responsible life and so do we.

That Bundy ranch deal is not an isolated thing. I just came back from the temecula / Murrietta area. If That mayor did call for the protest… And we know for a fact the police stepped in front of the Bus first….A federal Homeland Security Bus…we have a problem. No one is to start a war with the fed. We fix things.

I heard the words civil war down there quite a bit. More concerning was they will fight your Tea Party over water! This is insanity…yes I did infiltrate meetings down there.

Americans need to fix our political system and fire Congress if they continue to sit around and do nothing.

I will not stand for this rise in violence. I also infiltrated An American Spring tea party gathering

To me the words “Overthrow the gov” are Treason

We are the gov, we need to take it back. To overthrow the gov is to overthrow democracy and it’s obvious Fascism is on the rise in the USA

  22. Dewey says:

and Peggy why not have a conversation? Why the remark? Is this country not worth talking to everybody to Unite?

Obviously I am politically active, Obviously I get around, Obviously the “WE” is not just Chico. In fact I just traveled the state.

“WE” does not mean I subject good people to anyone who does not find the blog themselves. It started out as a chatroom…it grew as the anger grew…true grassroots unfunded I pay.

Americans are talking why not join in?

Everybody who is not 100% following the “Tea Party” agenda is not a bad person or the enemy. We are Independents, Progressives, Democrats and Republicans who left the party. We all get along and sometimes agree to disagree…..

  23. Tina says:

So lets see if we can follow Dewey’s line of thought.

He wrote, “We have two blogs”

When asked who “we” is he answers, “Exactly. “WE” fear for our lives and against bullying. “We are northern california Citizens”.

So…”we” Norhtern California citizens have two blogs?

And “We” Norhtern California citizens “fear for our lives and “against” bullying?

Dewey this is why it’s difficult to engage you in conversation. Your responses are erratic and disjointed.

(I don’t even know if you can get that)

Dewey asks: “Explain to me when the federal law states 501 4c is “exclusively for social welfare” and IRS regulations were changed around 1959 to not follow US Federal law passed by Congress.”

I agree it is a problem that departments of government have the power to regulate,/b>…but they do.

    USA Today:

The current law governing social welfare organizations states that they should be “operated exclusively for the promotion of social welfare.” But in 1959, the IRS issued a rule saying 501(c)(4) organizations could participate in other activities as long as their “primary” focus was still social welfare. The word “primary” was not defined.

According to the article the administration is considering changing the rules (to stop republican organizations) that even the ACLU says are so restricting that they would curb free speech:

The American Civil Liberties Union, often associated with liberal causes, says the rule would be a devastating blow to free speech, curbing “virtually all legitimate issue advocacy” close to a primary or general election, among other things. “The proposed rule threatens to discourage or sterilize an enormous amount of political discourse in America,” the advocacy group wrote in its public comment to the IRS.

How agencies like the IRS got the power to regulate and to change regulations without congress is another matter. I honestly don’t know. I do know the commerce clause has been exploited within legislation:

(CNSNews.com) – Justices Antonin Scalia, Anthony Kennedy, Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas joined together in a dissent to today’s Supreme Court decision on Obamacare which argued that the Supreme Court should have struck down the entire statute.

The justices said it should have been an “easy issue” for the Court to decide that failure to engage in economic activity (the purchase of health insurance) was not something Congress had the power to regulate under the Constitution’s Commerce Clause.

“What is absolutely clear, affirmed by the text of the 1789 Constitution, by the Tenth Amendment ratified in 1791, and by innumerable cases of ours in the 220 years since, is that there are structural limits upon federal power — upon what it can prescribe with respect to private conduct, and upon what it can impose upon the sovereign States,” the justices wrote.

“Whatever may be the conceptual limits upon the Commerce Clause and upon the power to tax and spend, they cannot be such as will enable the Federal Government to regulate all private conduct and to compel the States to function as administrators of federal programs.

Obamacare gives HHS incredible powers to regulate. so you see the power has been given by Congress and then abused by bureaucrats!

As for 501c4 organizations. Democrats have had thousands of such organizations in operation for decades. This has only become an issue now because Tea party conservtives wised up and joined the party. if its okay for liberal citizens to organize this way its okay for conservatives. In addition Democrats have used liberal black pastors (non-profits) for political support for decades without comment…but when republican pastors got involved everyone had a fit! There is a double standard that gives advantage to the left. That is not right.

Dewey also asked: “why is it ok to hide the names of big money donors in these non profits?”

Because Americans believe in privacy when it comes to charitable donations. A 501c4 is allowed to engage in political activity according to specific rules, unlike a 501c3 which is all charitable (I believe)

See explanation of rules at PBS:

unlike political committees, social welfare nonprofits have a legal right to keep their donors secret. That stems from the landmark 1958 Supreme Court case, NAACP v. Alabama, which held the NAACP didn’t have to identify its members because disclosure could lead to harassment.

Fast forward to the post-Citizens United world of campaign finance where outside groups can now spend unlimited amounts of money to influence elections so long as they are independent of candidates. Seeing the advantages offered by groups that can engage in political activity while keeping their donors secret, both Democrats and Republicans have seized onto this opening in the tax code.

The liberal complaint about corporation money is disingenuous. All parties have the same ability to attract donations from the corporate sector. Indeed, some of Barack Obama’s biggest donors were Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, JP Morgan Chase, Google, Citigroup, TimeWarner, GE and IBM.

There are countless liberal 501c4 with big money that influence elections and have for a long time. Moveon.org makes no secret about being political, in fact they flaunt it!

Open Secrets did some investigating. One thing in the first report caught my eye given the IRS targeting of Tea party:

If you follow that link, you’ll notice none of the organizations at the top of our list are tea party groups. In fact, they have remained relatively small players in the game.

Tea Party is being targeted as an enemy by Democrats as a political ploy. That’s an example of the despicable Saul Alinsky methodology.

    See here.

I hope that answers some of your questions Dewey. I hope this helps you to see we are not the enemy. If you still think we at Post Scripts are not interested in justice, freedom for all, or more accountability from government, I doubt you are really interested in truth or honest reforms.

By the way…I don’t like for bullies. I also won;t back down to a bully.

  24. Dewey says:

    Tina,

“How agencies like the IRS got the power to regulate and to change regulations without congress is another matter. I honestly don’t know. I do know the commerce clause has been exploited within legislation:

That is my point that is a source of the problem. It was brought up in the hearing..

I do not watch Lawrence but this clip of congress was on youtube when it was brought up

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwuTOexDV6A

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrBOEVwVDeM

That needed to be addressed. CONGRESS overseeing the law Congress passed. Issa could care less!

Now why all the flack it was not true? You can have a different opinion. Look Liberal orgs were targeted as well.

No one likes the IRS tactics lately. Heck they emptied one of my bank accounts for a business to which I never ran. Now I am going through heck to get it back. But this does not mean we abolish the IRS on a blind promise made by a group of politicians who are selling out our Congress?

I am pissed at the wasteful SPENDING of congressional politicians on dog and pony shows which have turned out to be fund raising scams. Look They admit it!

On the 501c4 I get what you say but I do not agree. Americans donating to 5014c….. privacy was meant for citizens donating to CHARITABLE non profits.

In reality this loophole is merely a place big money deposits the money then it is spent on political activities.

It is the Job of Congress to make sure the IRS follows the law. If anyone can ignore laws passed by Congress then who is the Dictator? SCOTUS? No that was not their intended purpose either!

Remember Citizens United? That is the problem! That opened the flood gates..

It was a conservative republican who thought if they used key words it would be a faster way to look for fraud. tea party was a word. Now I am not sure I agree with that kind of search. That should be stopped. But I sincerely do not believe it was just Tea party.

IRS wants money anybody’s money and many people have testified. But they sure did have the robo calls coming in the house Abolish the IRS! Donate Now!

With all the money flowing through the political system they need our money? No it is a profitable business. I think you and I will donate to whom we want, when we want..

Our Congress is an embarrassing Circus of fund raising fools! Some in Congress say 75% of time is spent dialing for dollars. The Speaker of the House is noted for his fund raising ability? What about his ability to get something done? Not the first time a republican and democrat had to work together.

This kind of political activity was not what the founding fathers wanted.

So My point is Issa is wasting tax payer money running those hearings like a media dog and pony show.

You say Tea party is a Charitable Org, sorry I do not see it, I see Politics, but am willing to listen….

Tina neither Party has been above these tactics in the past. I say we stop the corruption.

Pointing fingers and playing their game makes us the sheeple. I do not look at you as the enemy. I will not support the Koch agenda but I make friends in allot of tea party places with good honest citizens.

In the end if we concentrate on the corruption without partisanship we will get further.

It is estimated 60% of America will not vote in 2014…many are disgusted, the rest lazy. We need everybody to vote and we need to hold Politicians accountable. Insure the pursuit and happiness of all citizens together as a nation.

Also I know the Saul Alinsky method, Hillary wrote her thesis on him. It will become a much used word as it is on the hit Hilliary talking points memo… I do not believe this was the case here

I try to stay 1 step ahead of the media hype

truth is exactly what we are trying to uncover, so many lies so many years, but with all due respect you have to be willing to stop the current pack of lies paid for by superpacs, it is unAmerican

hastily written as I have to go, see ya

The Problem is all of ours and there is not a single political party on our side. They divide with social issues but in the end their campaigns sign up to the Banksters ect and that is to whom they legislate for.

I say Tea Party run as tea Party I guarantee at least 1 or 2 other parties will feel free to run. This 2 party system is really 1 party of crooks.

I say…Bottom Line Politics should not be tax free nor should donor money be hidden.

Transparency. Now mind you an org trying to get the vote out or acting in a non partisan way should maybe have tax exempt. If you are promoting candidates not tax free.

That is the point on Corporate Money heck the banks own the Senate and that was said by senator Bernie sanders!

My point is The corporations are buying the legislation. We are not a business nor USA Inc we are a country. Unlimited money in politics? Really? When has a politician done something you like?

There was a 30 year study and it showed legislation for the people by the people was nill.

Corportism = fascism… so what kind of country are we? Corporate ruled?

Also look at the number of USA companies buying a foreign company and declaring they are not a usa company for tax reasons? The transportation of their goods tears up our roads airports ect.

Citizens are left with the bills for wars, Financial Crashes, infrastructure, clean up of oil spills after they say they are done? That is not a good economic system

This is not a left/right problem this is an American Problem.

Tax cuts for those who are making record high profits has not worked. They take their money overseas and use some to but Politicians democrat and republican.

Think we are not going to have to bail out this next crash?

At least 5 of the 6 major Financial Institutions we bailed out because they are too big to fail are now larger.

Their assets? 9 Trillion or 2/3 the GDP of USA
too big to fail and they are out of control again.

The unlimited money in politics is not helping citizens but wall street and the media is doing very well.

The political ads blatantly lie, it is one big circus…

    I take a more populous view. I did work corporate America, I did take series6, 7 ectect…

My point is Politics is not tax free!

If the Tea party does some Charitable actions than let me know cause I have never seen it and I talk to Tea party peeps all the time everywhere.

  25. Dewey says:

    whoops Sorry

2 posts, did not know all that stuff was there…sorry skim it! too long and meant to be 2 diff posts running late for a meeting see ya

  26. Libby says:

“The free and moral nations of the world ….”

You have to stop this. It’s simple-minded; it’s childish, and it betrays a shocking ignorance of a really very complicated situation. Frankly, it smells of this “War to End All Islam” mentality … and is not helpful. It’s just pointless, pious blather.

As we speak, high-ranking members (and low) of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard are on the ground in Iraq. I like to think that they and high-ranking members of our special forces (and low) have had coffee.

You may not think much of the Iranians’ standing in the “free and moral” department, but just here, and just now, our interests coincide, and we’re going to see what we can do about this mess … or at least, try and keep from shooting each other inadvertently. I heard our total in-country is up to 800. Sigh. Five bucks says it’s well into the thousands by the end of the year.

You go watch some Buffy episodes, and leave the grown-ups to tackle the tough stuff.

  27. Libby says:

“Radical Islamic leaders are the new Nazi’s, their fervor, bigotry and goals of conquest are for all intents the same as Hitler’s.”

Is that what you were driving at? Well, my bad. I was being too literal. You wrote about a faction within a party in a nation state … and that’s how I took it … leading, of course, to the TP/Repug debacle.

I don’t see the radical Islam thing as being that tightly defined. Most of these organizations have been disowned by their nation states. I believe AQ started in Saudi Arabia … and was booted right quick into the hinterlands. The Muslim Brotherhood has been operating underground for most of its existence. It had a brief moment in the sun, but blew it.

So, actually, all your Arab nation states do disavow radicalism (as a matter of state survival). It’s true, they could do a little more. And it’s somewhat ironic that Iran should be the first to step up, but let’s just see how it goes.

You might also dig this …yummy!

    And how about this?

  32. Pie Guevara says:

    Re Corportism = fascism

    Idiot.

  33. Pie Guevara says:

Fascist Penguins (Dewey’s Corportism = fascism nonsense)

Corporatism is related to the sociological concept of structural functionalism. Corporate social interaction is common within kinship groups such as families, clans and ethnicities. Aside from humans, certain animal species are known to exhibit strong corporate social organization, such as penguins. Corporatist types of community and social interaction are common to many ideologies, including: absolutism, capitalism, conservatism, fascism, liberalism, progressivism, reactionism.

I could go on, but that short Wikipedia rip provides an excellent overview.

Fascism tried (with a little success) to incorporate corporatism into the fascist ideology. This was met with strong resistance by business which to one degree or another caved to the short lived fascist movement in Italy.

Today, if there is any equivalency at all, Obamism = coporatism = fascism. It too will be short lived.

  34. Pie Guevara says:

Re “Remember the shaw? Who installed saddam?”

Now there is a Freudian slip if I have ever seen one. You mean Joe Shaw? 😀

  35. Pie Guevara says:

Oh yeah, love Ella. I have tons of Ella. I have some Concord vinyl by Joe Pass, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown, and Jake Hanna I asked them them to sign when I used to be a volunteer at the Jazz Festival before the Concord Pavilion was built back in the 70’s.

Joe Pass’ last (?) studio album ‘My Song’ on Telarc is a masterpiece of virtuoso playing and recording engineering.

  36. Pie Guevara says:

Fascist (= corporate according to Dewey) penguins on the march —

  37. Pie Guevara says:

    Fascist Penguins dénouement

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing — Various attributions including Albert Einstein

A very, very little knowledge espoused by an idiot can be an amusing thing — Pie Guevara

Thanks for being such a sport, Dewey.

  38. Fascist Penguin says:

By the way in the above “Today, if there is any equivalency at all, Obamism = coporatism = fascism. It too will be short lived.” I was being facetious. Obamism = Insanity

  39. Fascist Penguin says:

Almost time for Fox News Sunday! YAY!

  40. Fascist Penguin says:

No Fox News Sunday! It is Saturday. Laughing at myself. Friday’s 4th threw me off.

  41. Tina says:

In review, Libby says the darndest things!

Jim Jones had less tha 1000 people in Jonestown. Jones is described in Wikipedia as a “religious leader and community organizer.”

A few other tidbits from his wiki biography, randomly selected:

Jones moved away from the Communist Party when CPUSA members became critical of some of the policies of former Soviet leader Joseph Stalin.

In 1960, Indianapolis Democratic Mayor Charles Boswell appointed Jones director of the Human Rights Commission.[17] Jones ignored Boswell’s advice to keep a low profile, finding new outlets for his views on local radio and television programs.[17] When the mayor and other commissioners asked Jones to curtail his public actions, he resisted and was wildly cheered at a meeting of the NAACP and Urban League when he yelled for his audience to be more militant…

Jones had long been critical of the United States’ opposition to communist leader Kim Il-Sung’s 1950 invasion of South Korea, calling it the “war of liberation” and stating that “the south is a living example of all that socialism in the north has overcome.”

While Jones always spoke of the social gospel’s virtues, before the late 1960s Jones chose to conceal that his gospel was actually communism.[14] By the late 1960s, Jones began at least partially openly revealing the details of his “Apostolic Socialism” concept in Temple sermons.[14] Jones also taught that, “those who remained drugged with the opiate of religion had to be brought to enlightenment — socialism.

By the early 1970s, Jones began deriding traditional Christianity as “fly away religion,” rejecting the Bible as being a tool to oppress women and non-whites, and denouncing a “Sky God” who was no God at all

Jones also began preaching that he was the reincarnation of Mahatma Gandhi (murdered in 1948) and Father Divine (died in 1965), as well as Jesus of Nazareth, Gautama Buddha and Vladimir Lenin.

In a 1976 phone conversation with John Maher, Jones alternately stated that he was an agnostic and an atheist.[41] Despite the Temple’s fear that the IRS was investigating its religious tax exemption, Marceline Jones admitted in a 1977 New York Times interview that Jones was trying to promote Marxism in the United States by mobilizing people through religion, citing Mao Zedong as his inspiration

He eventually moved the headquarters for the Temple to San Francisco, a major center for radical protest movements at the time. The move led to Jones and the Temple becoming politically influential in San Francisco politics, culminating in the Temple’s instrumental role in the mayoral election victory of George Moscone in 1975. Moscone subsequently appointed Jones as the chairman of the San Francisco Housing Authority Commission

Jones and Moscone met privately with vice presidential candidate Walter Mondale on his campaign plane days before the 1976 election, leading Mondale to publicly praise the Temple.

First Lady Rosalynn Carter also personally met with Jones on multiple occasions; corresponded with him about Cuba; and spoke with him at the grand opening of the San Francisco Democratic Party Headquarters, where Jones garnered louder applause than Mrs. Carter

n September 1977, California assemblyman Willie Brown served as master of ceremonies at a large testimonial dinner for Jones attended by Governor Jerry Brown and Lieutenant Governor Mervyn Dymally

At that dinner, Brown touted Jones as “what you should see every day when you look in the mirror in the early morning hours… a combination of Martin King, Angela Davis, Albert Einstein… Chairman Mao.”[48]

Harvey Milk, who spoke at political rallies at the Temple,[49] wrote to Jones after a visit to the Temple: “Rev Jim, It may take me many a day to come back down from the high that I reach today. I found something dear today. I found a sense of being that makes up for all the hours and energy placed in a fight. I found what you wanted me to find. I shall be back. For I can never leave.”

He spoke with friend and San Francisco Sun-Reporter publisher Carlton Goodlett about his remorse over not being able to travel to socialist countries such as the People’s Republic of China and the Soviet Union, speculating that he could be Chief Dairyman of the Soviet Union.[53] After his criticisms led to increased tensions with the Nation of Islam, Jones spoke at a huge rally healing the rift between the two groups in the Los Angeles Convention Center that was attended by many of Jones’ closest political acquaintances

In the summer of 1977, Jones and several hundred Temple members abruptly decided to move to the Temple’s compound in Guyana after they learned of the contents of Kilduff’s New West article to be imminently published, which included allegations by former Temple members they were physically, emotionally, and sexually abused.

Jones purported to establish Jonestown as a benevolent model communist community stating, “I believe we’re the purest communists there are.”[59] In that regard, like the restrictive emigration policies of the Soviet Union, Cuba, North Korea and other communist states, Jones did not permit members to leave Jonestown

Jonestown was where Jones began his belief in what he called “Translation,” where he and his followers would all die together and move to another planet and live blissfully.

While most of Jones’ political allies broke ties after his departure,[70] some did not. As a show of support, Brown[who?] spoke out against enemies at a rally at the Peoples Temple, which was also attended by Milk and then-Assemblyman Art Agnos.[71] On February 19, 1978, Milk wrote a letter to President Jimmy Carter defending Jones “as a man of the highest character,” and claimed that Temple defectors were trying to “damage Rev. Jones’ reputation” with “apparent bold-faced lies”

In November 1978, Leo Ryan led a fact-finding mission to Jonestown to investigate allegations of human rights abuses.[80] His delegation included relatives of Temple members, an NBC camera crew, and reporters for various newspapers.[81] The group arrived in the Guyanese capital of Georgetown on November 15.[80] Two days later, they traveled by airplane to Port Kaituma, then were transported to the Jonestown encampment on a dump truck.[82]

The delegation left hurriedly the afternoon of November 18 after Temple member Don Sly attacked Ryan with a knife.[83] The attack was thwarted, bringing the visit to an abrupt end.[83] Congressman Ryan and his people succeeded in taking with them fifteen People’s Temple members who had expressed a wish to leave.[84] At that time, Jones made no attempt to prevent their departure.[85]

As members of Ryan’s delegation boarded two planes at the airstrip, Jones’ “Red Brigade” armed guards arrived in a red pickup truck and began shooting at the delegation.[86] The guards killed Congressman Ryan and four others near a twin engine Otter aircraft.[87] At the same time, one of the supposed defectors, Larry Layton, drew a weapon and began firing on members of the party that had already boarded a small Cessna.[88] An NBC cameraman was able to capture footage of the first few seconds of the shooting at the Otter.[87] The five killed at the airstrip were Congressman Ryan; Don Harris, a reporter from NBC; Bob Brown, a cameraman from NBC; San Francisco Examiner photographer Greg Robinson; and Temple member Patricia Parks

Later that same day, 910 inhabitants of Jonestown,[89] 303 of them children, died of apparent cyanide poisoning, mostly in and around a pavilion.[90] This resulted in the greatest single loss of American civilian life in a deliberate act until the September 11, 2001 attacks.[91] No video was taken during the mass suicide, though the FBI did recover a 45 minute audio recording of the suicide in progress.[92]

On that tape, Jones tells Temple members that the Soviet Union, with whom the Temple had been negotiating a potential exodus for months, would not take them after the Temple had murdered Ryan and four others at a nearby airstrip

And I’ll bet that Libby thought the guy was a Christian fanatic! His “religion” was the utopian dream of a socialist. His pathology as narcissistic, twisted, and tyrannical as most socialists.

  42. Libby says:

You just aren’t ever going to get it, Tina, are you? Ever? The ideology of a sociopath is entirely irrelevant.

  43. Tina says:

Irrelevant only when the ideological association leads straight to the radicals now in charge in the Democrat Party maybe.

And get over what? The fact that a bunch of extremists are trashing our nation, destroying industry and jobs, causing high consumer prices, taking over control of industry through punishing regulations, creating a massive entitlement society and ensuring they remain poorly schooled and socially pliant?

No Libby I will never get over the damage and destruction the sixties radicals have done and continue to do under cover of “helping”…never! Like Jones they are socialist utopian dreamers who are narcissistic, twisted, tyrannical and determined to destroy freedom and America.
