Those Nazi Ways

by Tina Grazier

Recently I was likened to those who were fooled by the Nazis. This assertion was made by a visitor to Post Scripts who couldnt get his mind wrapped around the Patriot Act, a tool that targets specifically in defense of our nation. For some odd reason he worried that this meant he himself might be targeted, willy nilly, as if the Constitution itself had been suspended, done away with completely, and as if the government had either the time or an interest in pursuing average citizens. I was not insulted by our friends assertion in fact I take it as a sign that Im making progress.

It is difficult, however, to imagine someone fearing the likes of me. What power do I posses that could actually threaten? I look for ways to contrast the conservative view with the liberal view as a means to greater understanding. I continually ask the question: how is it that people who champion individual freedom and small government are considered to be controlling? And, how is it that people from the other side of the political spectrum think themselves non-tyrannical when they advocate redistribution of wealth, are enamored with controlling rules and regulations, and celebrate special rights for special groups? I tell you its a puzzle, but I don’t see how it could be threatening. Wellin any case, you can imagine how delighted I was this evening to read the following in an article posted at

The American Thinker:

What happened in the 1930s in Nazi Germany, however, was preceded by what happened in Oregon in 1922. The Ku Klux Klan supported and passed the Compulsory Education Law which required that parents send their children to public schools and not private schools. The avowed purpose of this law was to get children “while their minds are plastic” and to turn the child into “a true American.”

What was the Klan really after? It wanted to close parochial schools. It wanted to close yeshivas. It wanted to take away from parent the right to have their children not only educated in basic skills, but also to have their children learn those skills in an environment in harmony with the religion and beliefs of the parents. Public schools, which did not serve fish on Friday or Kosher food, would break down the stubborn resistance of recalcitrant groups that did not convert themselves into the Klan’s image of America. ** The Supreme Court on October 1, 1925 ruled that the Oregon law was unconstitutional, holding that parents and guardians had the right to direct the education of the children and further holding that the child was not a mere creature of the state. That was when federal courts believed individual liberty trumped social engineering. ** Many on the Left today see public education as primarily a mechanism to mold children into people who will better fit into the vision that these Leftists have for America. Those tinkerers should know what good company they keep: they are following in the footsteps of Nazi Germany and of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. Educational monoculture is an invitation to tyranny.

An invitation to Tyrannywords that make bells sound in my head. Summed up in these four powerful words are the collective pleadings, panderings and promises of the candidates HRC and BHO. Have I joined my paranoid friend? Hardly! The platforms of each of these two candidates read like formulas for tyrannyimplementation of these plans would move America ever closer to tyrannytotal government control. These candidates give us words like progressive, hope, and change, but they are really telling us proudly that they represent socialism. The Nazis were socialists. They believed in the redistribution of wealth, special rights for special groups and of course lots and lots of controlling rules and regulations. These candidates are both saying we need to unite as a country.

Id say we better take notice of what exactly that means to folks like our visitor who like to hurl that word Nazi around.

Please read the article, Some Wicked Friends of Public Schools, by Bruce Walker. It is definitely filled with information you can use.
