It’s another bizarre story that a majority of California voters are at a loss to explain. Why in a state controlled top to bottom by fiscally responsible, penny pinching democrats would a wealthy state like California be both broke and rated the most taxed in nation? (Says Forbes Poll) I have an idea, but I’ll leave it up to you to figure out.

In raw numbers, California collects more tax than any other state, as you might expect. Receipts rang in at $104.8 billion in 2010, according to U.S. Census data. Even though the sales tax declined by a percentage point on July 1, it remains among the country’s highest. Gas taxes are the second highest in the nation. In July, the state doubled the motor vehicle fuel tax from 17.3 cents per gallon to 35.3 cents per gallon. CA – Income tax: 9.55%, Sales tax: 7.25%, Property tax per capita: $1,449. Worst in America. The majority of voters in CA are democrats. Source of tax data, Forbes Magazine dated January 2012.

  1. Bob says:

Why is Cawleefornia (as Ahnode sez) broke despite having some of the highest taxes in the country?

It’s because of pigs like Tom Lando and the Chico City Council. Just read this for one example of how they are ripping off Chico taxpayers.

And if Lando has his way YOUR sales tax will not be 7.25 but at least 8%. (And even more if Jerky Brown and other Demoncrats get their way.)

All Chico taxpayers should be outraged.
