Another Bad Day in Syria

by Jack

The United States is closing it’s embassy in the Syrian capital of Damascus as Obama pressures President Assad to step down. At the same time Russia and China have blocked a UN resolution for a transitional democratic reform removing the Assad regime. Why, you may wonder? Simple, These two countries and mostly Russia, have been supplying arms to keep Assad propped up and they have a vested interested in his government.

Assad’s regime has a long and deadly relationship with it’s people. When Assad’s father was in power he declared Syria’s 4th largest city to be the center of an internal uprising and he ordered the evacuation of every woman and child and then killed everyone that stayed behind. Such barbarity has not seen since the days of the Roman Empire and now the man’s son is wreaking death and destruction once again on his people.

You might think the left would be marching across Europe, in Washington and San Francisco, outraged that an arms deal is keeping a dictator in power as he kills off his own citizens. However, the champions of the downtrodden and poor the far left, have so far been remarkably quiet. Another blatant example of leftist hypocrisy?

Turkey has been threatening to take unilateral military action to stop the violence if they UN won’t. Turkey has issued an ultimatum to Assad that has gone unmet and that would seem to spell war between the Syrian government and Turkey, unless the protesters prevail soon.
