Sea Levels Have Been Rising for 100 Years

Attention Al Gore: No Islands have sunk under rising oceans.

Current sea level rise has occurred at a mean rate of 1.8 mm per year for the past century,[1][2] and more recently at rates estimated near 2.8 0.4[3] to 3.1 0.7[4] mm per year (1993-2003). Current sea level rise is due significantly to global warming,[5] which will increase sea level over the coming century and longer periods.[6][7] Increasing temperatures result in sea level rise by the thermal expansion of water and through the addition of water to the oceans from the melting of continental ice sheets. Thermal expansion, which is well-quantified, is currently the primary contributor to sea level rise and is expected to be the primary contributor over the course of the next century. Glacial contributions to sea-level rise are less important,[8] and are more difficult to predict and quantify.[8] Values for predicted sea level rise over the course of the next century typically range from 90 to 880 mm, with a central value of 480 mm. Based on an analog to the deglaciation of North America at 9,000 years before present, some scientists predict sea level rise of 1.3 metres in the next century. [9][10] However, models of glacial flow in the smaller present-day ice sheets show that a probable maximum value for sea level rise in the next century is 800 millimetres, based on limitations on how quickly ice can flow below the equilibrium line altitude and to the sea.[11]

Climate Negotiations Break Down – Thank God

>”It has become clear that the Danish presidency – in the most undemocratic fashion – is advancing the interests of the developed countries at the expense of the balance of obligations between developed and developing countries.” – G77-China chief negotiator Lumumba Di-Aping

Of course this is probably just a temporary setback. Once you give power to politicians and panic peddlers they rarely give up. But if you want a lesson in why governments should remain small and unobtrusive take a look at Copenhagen where the climate “talks” are taking place. It’s the biggest hot air fest of the season and may well be responsible for the greatest output of carbon dioxide for the entire year, although health care debates in the US would run a close second. Big nations and little nations are butting heads over what should or should not be done to stop a “problem” that is being seriously questioned and may be a complete hoax…and they are deadly serious! Pomposity is on parade…cue the “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies’.

What’s better than a meeting of BIG blowhard representatives of governments? You’ll find the perfect models…yes I said “models”…in various organizations, institutions and labs all across America and other nations. “Answers”, you see, lie with people…many people…people who grapple every day with discovery, research, and development and who find it interesting and equitable to solve problems and work with others doing the same. People witth cash to invest in those projects. America…a free America…has been such a model for decades. Why are we rushing headlong toward a model of failure?

“Government is not the solution to our problems; government is the problem.” – Ronald Reagan

The only game politicians play is the mandating of deadlines, that may or may not be possible to meet, and the transfer of money from the pockets of some people to the pockets of others (including their own). Governments are about power and control; ultimately their meddling becomes a killer of innovation and production.

Hated For My Names Sake

76-Cross1771857.jpg

The Sunday Message, by OneVike

This is what Jesus said would happen to those who follow Him.

“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved.”Matthew 24:9-13

Up until recent times, most Christians in America could not imagine living in a country where such things would happen in their lifetime. Who would ever imagine a time when Christians would be hated and people would betray their faith for the false prophets? I can’t help but think of folks who grew up in the Bible belt or of the Laura Ingalls-type pioneers of the 19th century prairie days. Did they ever come close to imagining what that kind of world would be like? And yet here we are, actually living in such times.

“You will be hated by all nations because of me,” Jesus said. It’s not just imaginary anymore, because since the House of Representatives passed the so-called “Hate Crimes Bill”, it is just a matter of time before Christians are persecuted for quoting Scripture from the Bible.

This is real, this is now. Jesus Christ knew that this day would come, and he spoke of it when He walked among us. We are living during a time when we will see attacks on Christians, and conservative political radio, escalate as it has in Canada, because of newly adopted hate crime language in the law. It is clear to me that we must be ready to stand up and fight for what is right. I know that not all of us have a public reach through web logs (blogs), radio, books, and TV. But at the very least, we must stand up for our Christian principles in our communities and with our friends and family.

As we approach the time we celebrate the birth of Christ, let us remember why He came. Christ was the light that entered the world so that men could be set free from the darkness, but men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. John 3:19 We now live at a time when evil abounds, and it is incumbent upon Godly men to stand for what is right, regardless of what the ramifications may be. Sharing the gospel means to share the light with those in the dark, and that means we must stand for the truth.

I pray that those who have ears to hear will hear His voice and call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen

Copenhagen Crazies Threaten Their Hosts

by Jack Lee

1608-protestorscopehagen.jpg
1609-COP15-Danish-police-prepa-002.jpg

Tens of thousands protest across Copenhagen. Police arrest 68 during widespread civil disobedience.

Last night I listened to a liberal Public Access radio station allowing protestors in Copenhagen an open mike. The diatribe spewing forth from the fanatical climate protestors, (all the speakers were females for some reason) was incredibly repetitious (too well rehearsed?) and at times, overly emotional. They were so excited, so fast talking, and they were spouting factoids in rapid fire succession. I only wish their factoids had been based in science or something remotely close to it! It was frustrating and depressing to hear so much disinformation all at once from these true believers.

Their ramblings reminded me of the park people we see talking to a lamp post or some invisible person. One extremely agitated woman, practically in tears, decried the horrors of this new manmade climate change and how all these poor island people had been driven from their ancestral homelands because now their islands were under water and mankind caused it! Oh, this was just awful and it was all our fault. The interviewer never asked, “What islands, name one?” They just accepted this as a fact and moved on to the next big lie.

It didn’t take long for their crusading rhetoric to devolve into a discussion on reparations for Canadian and American Indians and American blacks. Oddly, there was no mention of any South American Indians being oppressed or anyone else for that matter. They just hit on the softest targets possible where they knew there would be cheers from their followers and no response from the maligned Canadians and Americans. I could do a whole article on the lies, mistakes and half-truth they spouted, but it’s hard enough just staying up with their list of grievances! Carbon dioxide emissions, cow flatulence, keep the oil in the soil, over population, all the earth first issues of course; wow, the list of complaints about human existence was almost endless. However, one of the main underlying themes throughout was how wonderful it was to have such a warm, “communal” gathering of like minded protestors, with all these free food kitchens, free lodging and port-a-potties provided free by the Danish government. This was like a commune-ist utopia, but it lasted only until their first clash with the police and that didn’t take long.

The whiplash inducing change of subjects they had made it difficult to follow what they were yelling about. For a moment they would rant on how they were going to disrupt “business as usual” down at the docks at 3 p.m. the next day or how they planned to invade a parking lot declared off limits to protests because it was used by government workers. They championed Indians, blacks, spotted owls, they were hugely anti-IMF and they totally flipped out over anything to do with global climate change.

1610-copenhag321.jpg

“These people”…. were so consumed with their own sense of power while grasping at one nutty cause after another it was clear in less than a minute of listening these rabid radicals were mentally ill. Who else behaves like that? Who else gets so emotional and is so quick to believe every wild eyed claim about subjects they support absent any shred of proof? Nobody I know, not even hardcore democrats are this wacked out over their hot button issues. It was equally obvious to me, “these people”… were dangerous and capable of almost anything in support of their cause du jur.

Apparently the police were also concerned. They raided one the sleep-over communes and seized paint bombs made from fluorescent lights, over 200 riot shields and breaching ladders designed to bust through police barricades. About 200 professional protestors representing dozens of causes were rounded up and held for questioning.

The silly protesting continues, but better there than here….

Here’s The Best Girl To Marry!

From Netscape…

1607-321Li.jpg

Men, if you marry a woman who is well-educated, you’ll boost your chances of living a long life. The BBC News reports that the higher a woman’s education, the better the chance both she and her partner will have a long life, according to research from the Swedish Institute for Social Research in Stockholm, Sweden. Oddly, the level of a wife’s education was a stronger factor in lowering her husband’s risk of dying over the next 10 years than the man’s own level of education! But when it comes to a woman’s longevity, it is her husband’s social class based on his occupation that has the most influence, rather than her own occupational class.

Is this the secret of living to 100? It’s not what you eat or drink or even how often you exercise that can determine how long you live.

The study: Led by Robert Erikson and Jenny Torssander, the Swedish team analyzed census data from 1990 and cause of death data from 1991 to 2003 on more than 1.5 million employed men and women who ranged in age from 30 to 59 years old and were all living with a life partner.

What is the secret to a long and happy marriage?

The results:

  • Both men and women with less education and who made less money had a higher rate of death than those with more education and higher earnings.
  • Among both men and women, a lower social status and a lower-level occupation were tied to a greater risk of death.
  • Men who did not go to high school were 1.1 times more likely to die during the study period than men who had finished college, but it was the education of a man’s partner who had the greater impact on his longevity. Men who lived with a woman who did not go to high school were 1.25 times more likely to die than men who lived with a college graduate.
  • While a woman’s education level did have a strong impact on her mortality, her husband’s occupation was also linked to her risk of death. Women who were married to unskilled manual and routine non-manual laborers were 1.25 times more likely to die than women whose husbands held higher-level managerial and professional positions.

Why? Since women typically take more responsibility for the home than do men, Erikson and Torssander think more educated women have a positive impact on the family’s lifestyle. For example, they probably have healthier eating habits and know when to see a doctor. The study findings were published in the journal of Epidemiology and Community Healthcare.

A Growing Islamic Threat

by Jack Lee

While the rest of us were busy with our careers and our families, doing whatever it is that Americans do, there were some in our midst, many of them US citizens, who were plotting to kill us!

1606-abcdomestic terrorism.jpg

2009 was the worst year for Islamic terrorism since 9/11, however officials are reluctant to call it for what it is, a growing Islamic threat. And the worst part is a majority of these evil plotters hold US citizenship.

I won’t dignify them by calling them Americans because in my view they are not, they are traitors. Being an American ought to be a title reserved only for those who embrace our idealism and are willing to defend our democracy. Anyone who can’t abide by that ought not be able to claim the title of American. They should only be allowed to claim “US citizenship” and of course all the rights that accompany it. That legal status doesn’nt mean much anymore anyway, because those expensive rights are freely given to anyone, regardless of citizenship, even foreign born terrorists are assigned our citizenship rights.

In the most recent headlines we read about five young American Muslims detained over alleged terrorist links in Pakistan. These people did not fit your typical terrorist profile, they were from upper middle class families that were assimilated into American life. They were well educated and they had bright futures. Ironically, for this very reason Al Qaeda was suspicious of them and thought they might be CIA spies and their repeated offer for service was to their chagrin…declined. They are expected to be deported back to the USA to answer federal charges.

Just since May the FBI has interrupted five of six plots to kill Americans on our own soil. One succeeded (Ft. Hood).

* Four men–three U.S.-born, one Haitian-born, all Muslim converts were arrested after they planted bombs in cars outside the Riverdale Temple and the Riverdale Jewish Center in the Bronx. They had planned to fire a surface-to-air missile at an Air National Guard aircraft on the same day.

* There were major arrests of Americans accused of plotting with Al Qaeda and its allies, including an Afghan American charged in a New York bomb plot described as the most serious threat in this country since the Sept. 11 attacks.

* Authorities tracked other extremism suspects joining foreign networks, including Somali Americans going to the battlegrounds of their ancestral homeland and an Albanian American from Brooklyn who was arrested in Kosovo.

* The FBI rounded up homegrown terrorism suspects in Dallas, Detroit and Raleigh, N.C., saying that it had broken up plots targeting a synagogue, government buildings and military facilities.

*A Chicago man who was arrested for allegedly planning terrorist attacks against a Danish newspaper. He has now been charged for his alleged role in the Mumbai terrorist attacks that happened a year earlier, in November 2008, and claimed the lives of nearly 170 people. At the time, his name was Daood Gilani, but he changed his name to David Headley, so he could “present himself in India as an American who was neither Muslim nor Pakistani.

* Fort Hood shooter US citizen Nidal Hasan opened fire on American soldiers earlier this month. This massacre came on the heels of a series of foiled terrorist plots involving Americans.
