Help for Small Business…NOT!

Posted by Tina

The Washington Post is reporting a new plan to boost small businesses and create jobs:

The Obama administration is developing a major initiative to tackle the economic and political problem of unemployment by getting federal bailout funds into the hands of small businesses. The proposal involves spinning off a new entity from the Troubled Assets Relief Program that could give banks access to the government money without restrictions, such as limits on executive pay, as long as they use it to make loans to small businesses.

There’s only one problem with this plan. Not too many small businesses want to take out a loan when the government is promising to tax them six ways from Sunday. A loan for equipment or expansion does not ensure new business, especially in this down economy. Instead it represents more money going out, more debt, with nothing more coming in. How could that possibly help to increase job opportunities? This administration just doesn’t get it.

Latest on the Afghanistan War

by Abu Muswar

1600-taliban321.jpg

According to our latest intelligence reports about 90% of the people we’re now fighting in Afghanistan are not the Taliban, they are tribal leaders involved in a localized insurgency. In fact many of these people were also fighting the Taliban back in the 1990’s. There’s is a war for turf and we’re just in the way. The others are hardcore religious fanatics and young men who have joined the Taliban because they pay $500 a month and they are very regular with the payment.

“One of the eye openers for us was learning that the Taliban, for the most part, are better paid than the Afghan Security Forces, so that’s something that we and the Afghans have already taken steps to correct,” Robert Gates DOD chief. (What ever happened to their patriotism or is something we’re supposed to buy too?)

Recruits: The Taliban hold a sort of patriotic reverence or charisma among many Afghani, especially those young men with no jobs who might be looking for a little adventure. This has given the Taliban a fair amount of indigenious support and that’s never good when you are fighting a guerilla war.

Funding: The Taliban and Al Qaeda are being funded mostly by the local drug trade which has grossed about 70 million in the last 12 months, more than enough to finance a guerilla war against American and allied forces. Poppy production was actually off by about 20% last year, but the income remained high due to increases in the wholesale price of the raw opium product.

Drug War: A covert intelligence source said, “You can put your troops into counter-insurgency or you can go after the [drug trafficking] middleman but you can’t do both,” Thus the U.S. strategy has been to let the Afghan police go after the opium growers and the middlemen; unfortunately they have not been very effective due to a shortage of equipment and quality personnel. Part of the troop increase is to bolster drug enforcement and cut off Taliban war funds.

Our British allies have been especially keen on drug enforcement and would like NATO to step in and do a larger role along with the Afghanis. (Good luck on that one)

On the political scene President Karzai’s brother is one of those warlords profiting from opium smuggling and from being on the payrole of the CIA. President Karzai is becoming increasingly unpopular with the Afghani people due to his corrupt regime and those who now see democracy as a fraud and failure. Many of them now long for the tight control of the Taliban who at least kept order and corruption was at a minimum.

As one soldier put it, we can try to teach these people a lot of things to bring them into the modern world like writing with a pen, but they would take that pen and jab you in the eye with it. It’s not an easy task to teach these people anything.

A recent secret intell report allegedly says that US presence has little to do with nation building or even the oil and gas pipelines. Everybody including the Taliban had agreed those things were good for Afghanistan. There may be a vast supply of oil under the Afghan soil and this might explain a lot of things. I know you’ve heard that one before…but, this time it could be true! Let’s hope not, but if it is you’ll be among the first to hear about it.

A Futuristic Dream (Inevitable Consequence?)

by Abu Muswar

1595-dyPollutedWorldC-thumb-300x383-1594.jpg

Last night I had this nighmare about our future. It was an apocalyptic dream where I was on the outside looking in. This vivid dream seemed to be like a warning, like something that could really happen, if we continue as we have been. I’ll take a chance and share it with you, even at the risk of looking like a nutcase.

I’m not sure what time period this was supposed to be taking place; I only know that it was far into our future, maybe hundreds of years? The future world was crowded with people to the point it was almost stiflingly and it smelled. It was overcrowded even in the urban areas that were bracketed by corporate farms that were forced to use every square foot of ground to its maximum potential just to feed this huge population.

Nationalism no longer existed as most borders had merged with other borders and smaller countries just melted away. Governments everywhere existed only to care for the needs of the people. This was the end result of socialism and multiculturalism that made borders almost pointless.

Everybody in this future world spoke two languages, the regional language and the world language. All other languages and even local customs were long gone.

The government type of choice was socialism and it had dominated the world for so many, many generations there was now a huge percentage of the population totally dependent on the government for their very survival!

Copenhagen – Send in the Clowns!

Al Gore, the guru of the warming set, has been jetting around the world, schmoozing with celebrities, making appeals to children and using movies and photos of cuddly bears on ice flows to inspire panic and fire the flames of emotional resolve. It’s quite an act! Organizations friendly to the warming cause have eagerly climbed on board this guys bus, increasing the dissemination machine and their own memberships and revenues in the process. Political pressure was invoked to bring the appeal to a global controlling level. The show biz hype has continued for decades.

In contrast, objections and expressions of disagreement, no matter how relevant, revealing, or damning, have been dismissed and ridiculed. Appeals to reason and sound judgement fail to catch the attention of scientists or the average Joe. Even when revelations of global warming fraud and cheating come forward many people refuse to re-evaluate or question their beliefs while the liars and cheats double down to defend their deceptions. With trillions of dollars at stake, the threat of economic collapse and the promise of a new oppressive world order the situation is dire.

“Command & Control” Threat Issued by EPA

1592-EPALogo.jpeg

Let’s just say this right up front, the radical progressive leftist agenda is all about power and control. Elitist, arrogant, oppressive methods are being used to bring about the transformation that Obama spoke about during the election. The latest is an edict from the EPA:

“Administration Warns of ‘Command-and-Control’ Regulation Over Emissions” – FOX News

The Obama administration is warning Congress that if it doesn’t move to regulate greenhouse gases, the Environmental Protection Agency will take a “command-and-control” role over the process in way that could hurt business. ** …while administration officials have long said they prefer Congress take action on climate change, the economic official who spoke with reporters Tuesday night made clear that the EPA will not wait and is prepared to act on its own. And it won’t be pretty. ** “If you don’t pass this legislation, then … the EPA is going to have to regulate in this area,” the official said. “And it is not going to be able to regulate on a market-based way, so it’s going to have to regulate in a command-and-control way, which will probably generate even more uncertainty.”

The unmitigated gall of these people. And they wonder what motivates good citizens to “cling to their guns and religion”!!

Green Morality Study

Here’s an interesting bit of information…

“Is Green Card a Passport To Immorality?” by Ed Carson – IBD

Rebecca Tuhus-Dubrow in Slate discusses a fascinating study by University of Toronto researchers. Some participants were asked to select items they wanted to buy from a largely “green” store. Others made a wish list for a more conventional store. Subsequent tests uncovered some surprising findings, Tuhus-Dubrow noted: Subjects who made simulated eco-friendly purchases ended up less likely to exhibit altruism in a laboratory game and more likely to cheat and steal.

Dang It’s Cold!!!

by Jack Lee

1574-lstorm.jpg

As a follow up to our New Zealand story on global warming comes this from another British researcher, Christopher Booker, a British author and climate change skeptic, who wrote in the Oct. 25 issue of the British newspaper the Telegraph that, “as the world has already been through two of its coldest winters for decades, with all the signs that we may now be entering a third, the scientific case for (carbon dioxide) threatening the world with warming has been crumbling away on an astonishing scale.”

(Ice storm hits Manhattan – 2008)

Another study, published by Bob Carter, a professor of geology at Australia’s James Cook University, in the Jan. 20 issue of the Australian newspaper argued that “global atmospheric temperature reached a peak in 1998, has not warmed since 1995 and, has been cooling since 2002.”

The CATO Institute stated the world’s temperature has remained static for a decade, however other scientists cautioned that a decade is too short a time to make any conclusions about weather patterns. This tends to further undermine the argument of those who claim global warming is about to plunge many islands under water as the oceans rise and polar ice caps melt.

I dunno what to think…all I know is last night it was 40 below zero (wind chill factored in) in the northwest plains.

Doping California Kids

1571-Kids.jpeg

Heaven help you if you have one of those overly active boys or a little girl who peers out the window lost in her daydreaming. These students were introduced to games like dodge ball and relay races at recess to both calm and awaken restless or dreamy kids. Teachers walked the classroom offering stern or gentle urgings when attentions wandered. In California we now have another remedy:

“Williams – California doping our youths,” By Armstrong Williams – Washington Times

I was horrified to read recently that it is increasingly common in California to treat children diagnosed with Attention- Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) with marijuana. California voters passed a law allowing doctors to recommend medical marijuana to their patients, including those under the age of 18. The law allows doctors to recommend marijuana “for any … illness for which marijuana provides relief.” Under that broad umbrella, doctors are pushing pot to treat all kinds of maladies, including ADHD. ** Truly, this is horrifying. ADHD is described as a neurological disorder that prevents children from focusing on a specific task. In essence, people with ADHD have difficulty with self-regulation and self-motivation, owing to problems with distractibility, organization and prioritization. ** Notably, these are the same functions that are most impaired by marijuana use. Get it? Pot actually exacerbates the problems with attention, memory and concentration that you want a treatment for ADHD to alleviate. That’s why Stephen Hinshaw, psychology department chairman at the University of California at Berkeley, called prescribing marijuana to treat ADHD “one of the worst ideas of all time.”

EPA – Big Bully on the Block

Posted by Tina

Or maybe we should say bigger bully since the EPA has been harassing Americans and American business for years.

Anyhoo…the big news today is that the EPA Administrator, Lisa Jackson, has proclaimed that greenhouse gasses are dangerous pollutants:

“An Inconvenient Democracy – The EPA aims to bully Congress and business with its carbon ruling.” – Wall Street Journal

EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said yesterday that her ruling that greenhouses gases are dangerous pollutants would “cement 2009’s place in history” as the moment when the U.S. began “seizing the opportunity of clean-energy reform.” She’s right that this is an historic decision, though not to her or the White House’s credit, and “seizing” is the right term. President Obama isn’t about to let a trifle like democratic consent impede his climate agenda. ** With cap and trade blown apart in the Senate, the White House has chosen to impose taxes and regulation across the entire economy under clean-air laws that were written decades ago and were never meant to apply to carbon. With this doomsday machine activated, Mr. Obama hopes to accomplish what persuasion and debate among his own party manifestly cannot.

Hugh Hewitt said it first regarding elections, “They Can’t Win if They Don’t Cheat”. But now it’s become more than obvious that the cheating methods employed by progressives apply not just to elections but in general. Hello, contents of leaked AGW emails! Hello, ACORN. Hello, recount mania that finds “lost” bags of votes in the trunk of a car. Hello Chicago Political Machine and the corruption that continues to flow from it. Hello cooking the books at Fannie Mae for bigger bonuses. Hello “tax dodging”, fraud commiting, union mob harrassment team dispatching politicians and operatives of the progressive Democrat persuasion.
