ON CRITICAL THINKING

by Beagle Scopes Jr.

I understand why you publish articles by OneVike. He is hopelessly wacky on the subject of religion, but he does draw in lots of comments, pro and con. I wonder why you don’t express your own opinion? Maybe you’ve decided there is nothing more to be said.

Nobody can be persuaded by any logic when the subject is religious faith.

“The castaway dog…” Daily Mail (UK)

** When Jan Griffith’s beloved dog, Sophie Tucker fell overboard from her family’s yacht she feared her pet had drowned. *** But Sophie Tucker, a grey and black cattle dog, wasn’t going to give up that easily. *** The determined pet swam six miles through ferocious shark-infested seas to an island, where she survived for more than four months by hunting wild goats for food. *** The extraordinary story of the castaway hound emerged today when Miss Griffith was reunited with her beloved pet. *** ‘I thought I’d never see her again, but she’s proved to be a dog who can really look after herself,’ said Miss Griffith. *** Sophie Tucker, named after the American vaudeville comedian, fell overboard from the family’s yacht when they ran into bad weather off the Queensland coastal town of Mackay. *** Miss Griffith and her friends searched the area, putting their own lives at risk in the rough seas, but there was no sign of Sophie Tucker. *** Unknown to them, the dog swam towards remote St Bees Island, a quiet volcanic strip of land fringed with reefs. **

Weight Loss

by Jack Lee

woman.jpgSummer approaches and what is the first thing people over the age of 40 begin to think? You guessed it, I better lose some weight! All that winter fat has accumulated and now you don’t quite fit into that old bathing suit do you bunky?

I have submitted this age old… (er, or should that be… old age?) problem to our highly underpaid certified quack, I mean crack, research staff at Post Scripts and the good news is there is a way you can possibly drop weight much faster than with mere diet and exercise will allow by using a combination of cheap and easy to obtain substances.

Here is the combination of over-the-counter items [we’ll call them food supplements] that may do the trick…and fast! But, be sure to read this article in it’s entirety so you understand some of the risks associated with taking supplements.

(1) 7 Keto with DHEA

(2) 5-HTP and

(3) Glucosamine with chondroitin.

What is 7 Keto with DHEA? 3-acetyl-7-oxo-dehydroepiandrosterone is a naturally occurring metabolite (breakdown product) of the hormone dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA).1 DHEA is the most abundant of the adrenal steroid hormones and serves as a precursor for sex hormones, such as estrogen and testosterone. 7-KETO was developed by researchers who were looking for biologically active metabolites of DHEA that could not be converted to the potentially cancer-causing sex steroids (e.g., estrogen and testosterone).

Just in case Libby’s comment on North Korea’s missile launch intrigued you…in case it sparked a distant memory or two…in case you were once a fan of Rocky and Bullwinkle, as I was…a little walk down memory lane:

** The machine was constructed by Mr. Peabody, a professorial, bow tie-wearing dog, to be able to visit famous historical events. At the request of Mr. Peabody, Sherman, Peabody’s “pet boy” assistant, would set the WABAC machine to a time and place of historical importance, and the two would be instantly transported there. The machine apparently later returned Mr. Peabody and Sherman to the present, although the return trip was never shown in the cartoon segment. The machine was little more than a plot device to allow the characters to visit the past. – Wikipedia **

N. Korea – First Create an International Crisis, Again!

Posted by Tina

By now youve no doubt heard that in response to North Koreas missile launch diplomatic leaders gathered to decide on an appropriate response.

The Times (UK) reports:

** Japan and its Western allies faced resistance from China and Russia last night in seeking a tough response to the North Korean rocket launch. The rocket passed over Japan, which called an emergency meeting of the 15-nation UN Security Council. Western diplomats say that the launch violated UN sanctions on North Koreas missile programme, and were pushing for a robust response by the council that could include new measures. **

A fine analysis of the situation can be found in the following Wall Street Journal article:

UNITE – April 15th!

by Jack Lee

For me the only question was, do I want to protest in Sacramento or in my hometown on April 15th? It’s long over due for us to turn out and voice our concerns about the direction this state is going.

Did you ever think we would see the day when California schools would be competing with Arkansas for 47th place?

But, there are six first place claims we can make thanks to our legislators:

We are first when it comes to the worst bond rating.

We are first when it comes to losing jobs and bad growth in business!

We are first with the best salaries for worthless legislators!

We are first with the highest deficit of any state!

We are first in highest costs for illegal aliens.

We are the most taxed state in the nation!

And we are among the bottom five in overregulation of the insurance industry that has our property and casualty rates skyhigh! This is why in a recent study 550 CEO’s from across the nation said stay away from California!

We need to protest the poor performance (judgement) of our elected officials in this state; we’ve been silent too long and they’ve been selling us down the river for far too long, enough is enough! Grow a backbone (those employed and can’tr make it are excused) and get out on April 15th and lets scare the HXX out of the legislators, they’ve got it coming!

Taxation is out of control, welfare is rampant, schools are flunking, illegals are costing us dearly, our crime is horrific, our streets and highways are falling into decay and for the first time ever we have more people fleeing this than moving in! What more reason would you need to protest the performance of your elected officials? And keep in mind it didn’t all start with a recession! We’re losing good, clean businesses and good paying jobs and what is moving in to replace them is too often the lowest rung on the ladder, the most needy and least productive of us who have heard what a great welfare state California is!

It’s an absolute disaster that California should have all these nightmarish problems and there is only one explanation, our legislature has repeatedly failed us.

No more excuses, its time to kick the bums out of office and let them take their staff with them…we might as well just kick them all out and start over with good citizens interested only in solving our state’s problems instead of these good for nothing slackers who only care about lining their pockets and keeping their political careers alive.

Toss em out – we start by protesting in mass on the 15th of April with our taxpayer revolution!

I’ll be there! I want to stand before you and tell the truth about the rats in Sacramento, about the dirty tricks they pull to stay in office, about how they’ve crushed liberty and imposed socialism while decieving us with broken campaign promises. What we’ve got here is a case of taxation without representation! We have every right to be angry and it’s time to let these bums in Sacramento know how we feel!

California has been going down the drain too long, its up to us to demand better to get better.

Let’s show them we’re serious! You come out on the 15th and show us you care and you want a change! But, if you stay home, then you deserve the government you have got!

Tax Day Tea Party

teataxsca0179.jpgPosted by Tina

WHEN: April 15, 2009 11:00am – 1:00pm

WHERE: Chico City Plaza

WHY: To let city, county, state, and federal officials know, we the people, are concerned about tax and fiscal problems in this country. This is about monetary issues and policies that effect the economic strength of our nation only.

ADMISSION: FREE

We will be accepting NON-PERISHABLE food to be given to the local food bank. We do care about those in need.

The success (or failure) of this growing movement will depend on how serious our citizens are about demonstrating their displeasure (frustrations and anger) at our government’s high tax, big government solutions. Now is the time to transform your upset into action by showing up on the 15th…or if that’s not possible, you can offer to help plan the event:
