Taking Chance – A Tough Movie to Watch, but Worth It

by Jack Lee

Just saw this movie Taking Chance and the story won’t let you escape uninvolved. Few movies get a rise out me, but this one did. Maybe because I have helped send a lot of soldiers to Iraq and Afghanistan, I don’t know, but whatever it was it had an impact. The movie is probably on ShowTime now or you can rent the video if you are prepared for an emotional, heart wrenching true story.

Summary: This is a story of a young Marine, unfortunately it’s told posthumously and its also about the emotional experiences of his escort in his final journey home. There were many poignant moments, but the one that comes to mind now was this scene when the Marine Col. (played by Kevin Bacon) was following behind the Hearst, making this long trip from airport to his home. As they were nearing their destination a sort of accidental caravan formed up. First, it was a rough looking old trucker who started to pass the Hearst and the escort car and then he noticed the flag draped coffin and the marine in the trailing vehicle. He removed his hat and turned on his headlights and continued to pass. Then another vehicle noticed the Hearst, and this one had some kids in the back and they also turned on their lights, in the following scene the camera pans back and we see about 20 vehicles snaking their way through the hills, including the truck, and they all had their lights on and they were all escorting the Hearst just like a funneral procession for a friend or family member.

The picture of this, with their lights on, the old people, the young people, kids, a trucker and all travelling as one convoy across the great wide open spaces of Wyoming just to honor the fallen Marine, it was something. That impromptu caravan of caring Americans, all willing to take time from their own journies to share the unstated privilage of escorting this young Marine home, well, the rest of the movie didn’t get any easier on the heart. If you have an ounce of patriotism or compassion, you will need kleenex for this one.

BIG Government Hilarity

Posted by Tina

I highly recommend the following articles. Hey, we might as well laugh.

** Barack Obama, even when hes not yukking it up on 60 Minutes, barely disguises his indifference to economic matters. He is not an economist, a political philosopher, a geopolitical strategist. He is the president as social engineer, the Community-Organizer-in-Chief. His plan to reduce tax deductions for charitable giving, for example, is not intended primarily to raise revenue, but to advance government as the distributor of largesse and diminish alternative sources of societal organization, such as civic groups. Likewise, his big plans for socialized health care, a green economy, universal college education: Theyre about extending the reach of the state. Mark Steyn, NRO **

Mexican Narco-Terror Networks

The following article is instructive regarding the growing threat on our southern border. It provides links to the authors entire testimony before the Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee. You will have to scroll down on the blog to find the article. It was posted around March 18th.

More About the Mexican Narco-Terror Networks, by Michael Braun – Counterterrorismblog

** “The Mexican cartels corporate headquarters are set up South of our border, and thanks to corruption, cartel leaders often carry out their work in palatial surroundings. The cartel leaders manage and direct the daily activities of command and control cells that are typically located just across the border in our Country. **

A CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION?

flag1a.jpg

abruce.jpgThe combined chorus of those calling for a Constitutional Convention here in California continues to rise in crescendo. You see, they feel that our state Constitution is responsible for this states ills. They want to delete it, and start over, rebuilding it from the ground up. They say too many things standing in the way of progress(read that Progressives..and read that.Liberals.)

Since democrats are in total control of our state legislature, I thought itd be nice if we examined how Californias new State Constitution might look if the democrats succeed in getting the Constitution they want.

First, the Preamble would have to go: It currently reads We, the People of the State of California, grateful to Almighty God for our freedom, in order to secure and perpetuate its blessings, do establish this Constitution. Democrats and other liberals arent about to give credit to ANYBODY except themselvesplus theres that Separation of church and state stuff. So the new Preamble would read: We, the People of the State of California, grateful to democrats and likeminded liberals, in order to secure their blessing do establish this Constitution.

The current Article in the Constitution that requires a two thirds majority to pass a budget would be history. In its place.I can see it all now.A simple majority is all that is required for passing a budget, unless Republicans are in control. In that case, only five Democrats votes are needed and no Republican votes are allowed.

Results of Proposition 8 (declaring that only marriage between one man and one woman is valid and recognized in California) would have to go. In its place, well find marriage is allowed without restrictions. All thats required is a profession of lovebe it with a partner (preferably same sex,) a sheep, goat, horse, three partners or ten, a park bench, lamp post or a knothole in a wood fence. Gee, Ive run outta spacebut you get the idea.

Our current Constitution has done this state well. Its not the Constitution that has caused the quagmire in our state capitol. Its the occupants of the state legislature. If anything needs deleted..THAT would be the best place to start.

Progressive Greens Plot Global Tyranny

Posted by Tina

** A United Nations document on “climate change” that will be distributed to a major environmental conclave next week envisions a huge reordering of the world economy, likely involving trillions of dollars in wealth transfer, millions of job losses and gains, new taxes, industrial relocations, new tariffs and subsidies, and complicated payments for greenhouse gas abatement schemes and carbon taxes all under the supervision of the world body. *** The 16-page note, obtained by FOX News, will be distributed to participants at a mammoth negotiating session that starts on March 29 in Bonn, Germany, the first of three sessions intended to hammer out the actual commitments involved in the new deal. *** The Obama administration has said it supports the treaty process if, in the words of a U.S. State Department spokesman, it can come up with an “effective framework” for dealing with global warming. – FOX News **

See the 16 page memo HERE. The note includes language such as the following:

International taxes and levies, internationally agreed cap and trade regimes

Lovell Mixon and Media Exploitation

by Jack Lee

media.jpgThanks to the major news media, a tragedy is used to show their audiences there are blacks in Oakland that are hardcore racists! But, for the majority of the Oakland community that are not racists, it’s one more slap in the face and its a disgrace.

The racists we’re talking about are the ignorant and ill informed police protestors and yet this week the mainstream media was almost desperate for their “informed” opinions; they suddenly had a network news microphone thrust in their faces and did we get an earful.

mixon.jpgThis was all over the self defense shooting by police of an armed parolee (Lovell Mixon) after he started killing police officers to evade arrest.

The predictable comments went something like this, it was the cops fault, it was karma man, Lovell was a good guy, he was being harassed, the Oakland cops are always deliberately killing black men, Lovell was a victim of white oppression and police brutality, Lovell was a hero because he fought back, and so it went. It was ignorant and foolish trash talk by people who deserved zero airtime.

Wasted CA School Funds

Posed by Tina

** Sacramento- Unemployment in California may be at its highest since 1983, but there are jobs with the state Legislature for the well-connected.Yolie Flores Aguilar, a longtime friend and political ally of some powerful California Democrats, last year supplemented her income as vice president of the Los Angeles school board with more than $32,000 as a consultant assigned to a state Senate committee that, during her tenure, did not meet or release any reports. LA Times **

That money…and a lot more like it…would be better spent directly on the kids. Government bloat is what eats art, music and sports programs.

Bipartisan Opposition to Reid Tactics on Healthcare and Cap & Trade

Reid Leaves Open Option for Extreme Maneuver on Health Care, Energy Overhauls, by Trish Turner FOX News

** Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is holding the option of using a legislative maneuver to create not only a sweeping overhaul of the nation’s health care system but also a controversial cap and trade energy program, a move that could torpedo bipartisanship. *** The maneuver, known as “reconciliation,” protects legislation to which it’s attached from a Senate filibuster. Republicans, in their deep minority status, are in an uproar over the possibility that they will be all but eliminated from the legislative process. *** “We’re leaving nothing off the table,” Reid told reporters Thursday, a move that has touched off a firestorm of concern behind the scenes. *** So concerned about the possibility of it being used, Sens. Robert Byrd, D-W.V., and Mike Johnanns, R-Neb., sent a letter of strong protest to the majority leader. *** As opponents of proposed cap and trade measures, Byrd, the Senate’s most senior member and lead watchdog of Senate rules and decorum, and Johanns told Reid, “Enactment of a cap-and-trade regime is likely to influence nearly every feature of the U.S. economy. *** “Legislation so far-reaching should be fully vetted and given appropriate time for debate, something the budget reconciliation process does not allow. Using this procedure would circumvent normal Senate practice and would be inconsistent with the Obama dministration’s stated goals of bipartisanship, cooperation, and openness,” they wrote. **

Obama Plan to Disrupt, Dismantle & Defeat Al Qaeda Announced

Posted by Tina

** WASHINGTON President Barack Obama will Friday announce a new strategy to “disrupt, dismantle and defeat” Al-Qaeda in safe havens in Afghanistan and Pakistan and deploy an extra 4,000 military trainers. The new strategy, the product of a 60-day review in conjunction with US allies, marks one of the boldest foreign policy bets laid so far in Obama’s two months in power and defies those who warn he is walking into a quagmire.
