Daschel Withdraws

Posted by Tina

Tom Daschel has just withdrawn his nomination. Four major papers, including the NYT, had called this morning for him to step down. President Obama accepts with regret.

I applaud the decision.

Hang Em High, Burn Em at the Stake…

by Jack Lee

fat_.jpgWhat kind of a human being would use his own country’s greatest financial crisis in 80 years for his own self interests?

It would take someone with a narcissistic personality, with no shred of honor or patriotism, just unbridled greed and gall, a real Benedict Arnold. However, we don’t call them traitors, we call them Congressmen and Senators. And they have placed huge amounts of self serving, vote buying, wasteful pork into America’s bailout plan for no other reason than to pay back favors and keep themselves in office, thus once again placing their own interests far ahead of the nations interest.

They are despicable!

They should be shunned from our soil, better yet they should be stoned and/or hung from the highest tree in Washington and what is left of their rotting corpses ought to be burned and their ashes thrown into Kim Il Jung’s toilet just before his next bowel movement!

But, what do you want to bet they’ll just get re-elected?

Note: It is estimated that less than 20% of the trillion dollar bailout plan will actually be used in a way that could even remotely be considered stimulating the economy.

VIOLENCE RAMPANT in MEXICO – Tourist Warning

by Jack Lee

Sources: CIA_ Homeland Security_ State Department_ CNN News_NPR

don't.jpgSure hope you don’t have a vacation planned in Mexico any time soon.

If you do, you better know that Mexico is one of only two countries in the world our State Dept. and the CIA say is ready to collapse due to terrorism and civil unrest. Pakistan is the other country. You wouldn’t vacation in Pakistan would you? No, but I bet some of you are planning to go to Mexico soon. In the past 12 months it’s estimated that over 5000 civilians have been brutally executed by heavily armed gangs. The Mexican army is waging war on the drug gangs, but the outcome is far from certain. Even Tijuana is under army occupation, and despite that it is still considered one of the most lawless places in all of Mexico.

The corruption among law enforcement is so rampant that Mexican police officers simply can’t be trusted.

NPR story: “Last week, Mexican journalist Armando Rodriguez was brutally murdered by gunfire outside his home in Juarez. Rodriquez is the 24th journalist to be murdered in Mexico since 2000, making Mexico one of the most dangerous countries for reporters.”

DYING IN KENTUCKY (part II) THE ICE STORM

by Jason Cunningham

I live in Ohio County, Kentucky. It is a disaster. We were trapped in our little area for 2 days by fallen trees. Power is out. We are all ok though. Most of us have a wood or gas stove, but there are some that do not. We cleared our own roads on Wednesday with our own chain saws and splitting wedges. There are local volunteer teams going door to door checking on every single house in some counties to help out and make sure everyone we can save stays alive. We will make it whether FEMA helps us or not. We Rednecks and Hillbillies know how to survive.

You see, we country folk are not afraid to let our neighbors move in with us and share our food and heat when they have none. We don’t stand aside and watch people work. We grab shovels and get to work alongside each other. No one here is too good to earn a blister. Bigger than all of that, we have God in our hearts. That is what will get us all through.

Ya’ll be careful now.

Bad Banks May Rally Soon Thanks to Bailout Money

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Progress creating a government structure to absorb banks’ rotten assets could provide some relief next week for the stock market, which otherwise faces a tough lineup of woeful corporate outlooks, plunging auto sales and big job losses.

Corporations Live Large on Private Jets

by Jack Lee

DollarWings2.jpg The frivilous use of corporate jets these days by companies in big financial trouble is extremely infuriating and insulting to all the little guys holding the common stock, and it’s especially so if they happen to be on the list of bailed out companies. AIG – American International Group Inc., received about $150 billion in bailout money and still has one of the largest fleets of corporate jets, however you may be pleased to know they are going to do their bit and have just cancelled orders for four new jets (we suspect this to be a temporary situation and as soon as the heat is off they will get their jets).

Citigroup which has been besieged by months of bad news reported in the headlines still hasn’t got the message that people in the real world don’t like them burning up the taxpayer’s dollars on their pricey corporate jets. Citigroup execs must live in another world than us regular folk and to prove it, just last week they sent a temporary…I repeat a temporary exec….not even a full-timer…to Hawaii with his family on their lavish private jet at a cost of $90,000!!! Citigroup has twice received our bailout money totaling $45 billion. Is it any wonder they’re are going belly up, but the real question why do we have to go with them? (Thank a legislator for that one)

Four other financial companies that got a combined $120 billion in government money, Wells Fargo & Co., Bank of America Corp., JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Morgan Stanley, all own corporate jets for executive travel for both fun and business.

I can see the day coming when roving bands of angry (former) stockholders and American taxpayers sack Wall Street and hang these spendy CEO’s from lamp posts.

The Most Dangerous City In America

by Jack Lee

The Most Dangerous City In America in 2008 was…New Orleans. The causal factors are many, but most intellectuals will agree the two most basic factors are… FEMA and George Bush. The big question now is who to blame in 09?
