A BATHROOM TALE – FOR THE LADIES

You may need to stop at the women’s restroom . . . be prepared!

When you have to visit a public bathroom, you usually find a line of women, so you smile politely and take your place. Once it’s your turn , you check for feet under the stall doors. Every stall is occupied.

Finally, a door opens and you dash in, nearly knocking down the woman leaving the stall. . .

US Drug Policy a Success

Our Drug Policy Is a Success – Workplace tests, by John Walters, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy – WSJ

** Whatever challenges await him, President-elect Barack Obama will not have to reinvent the wheel when it comes to keeping a lid on the use of illegal drugs. Our policy has been a success — although that success is one of Washington’s best kept secrets. **

The War in Transition

Posted by Tina

Theres a lot of evidence that, at least in the immediate future, Barack Obama will follow the established policies of the Bush administration with respect to war. There must be something compelling about that top secret information that caused him to reconsider on some of his campaign boasts. Three recent articles offer information on the transitional atmosphere with respect to the ongoing war:

Iraq Top Ally In War Against Arab Radicals, by Charles Krauthammer

** The barbarism in Mumbai and the economic crisis at home have largely overshadowed an otherwise singular event: the ratification of military and strategic cooperation agreements between Iraq and the United States. **

Knowledge, Virtue and Liberty

“No people will tamely surrender their Liberties, nor can any be easily subdued, when knowledge is diffusd and virtue is preservd. On the Contrary, when People are universally ignorant, and debauchd in their Manners, they will sink under their own weight without the Aid of foreign Invaders.” Samuel Adams

So Much for Predictions

“Reagan doesn’t have that presidential look.” – United Artists Executive, rejecting Reagan as lead in 1964 film The Best Man.

“Ours has been the first [expedition], and doubtless to be the last, to visit this profitless locality.” — Lt. Joseph Ives, after visiting the Grand Canyon in 1861.

“With over fifteen types of foreign cars already on sale here, the Japanese auto industry isn’t likely to carve out a big share of the market for itself.” — Business Week, August 2, 1968.

THE FORK IN THE ROAD

By Bruce Sessions

********** FRIDAY SPECIAL *************

abruce.jpgIt was by an overwhelming margin that voters said they wanted change.

With the new state legislature sworn in and seated, the search for a solution to the states massive budget deficit will continue. Therell be some fresh brains in the mix what with the newly elected rookies (mostly Democrats) taking their seats.

While many of the legislators are new, the problem is still the same problem it was before the election; the states outgo is far more than the states income. The solutions being bandied about are the same, too. Cut spending, or raise taxes; or both!

The Republican governor and the Democrats want to raise taxes. They seem willing to make some token spending cuts, but leave in place some forty boards and commissions thatre used to offer plum jobs to termed out Democrats. (See termed-out Senator Sheila Kuehls plum appointment to a do-nothing commission paying her $136,000.)

With Californias economy in the tank, raising taxes seems to be the best solution (for Democrats.) The governor wants an increase in the sales tax, Democrats want to increase the income tax, the car tax three-fold, along with new taxes for services like, veterinary trips, landscaping, lawyer services, plumbing services, a glass of beer, and just about every other service they can dream up that isnt already taxed.

According to Tyler Cowen, professor of economics at George Mason University, during the depression, both Presidents Hoover and Roosevelt increased government spending and increased income taxes, excise taxes, inheritance taxes, corporate income taxes, holding company taxes and excess profits taxes. When all of these new taxes were taken into account, New Deal fiscal policy DELAYED the recovery from the depression.

So, today in Britain, a plan is in the works to CUT taxes to boost the economy.while in California, the talk continues to be INCREASING taxes. Both governments cant be right. So, which path to choose? Which path would YOU choose?

Internet Letter Alleges L. A. Times Gives Illegal Immigration Stats – HOAX!

Posted by Jack

The following was taken from a widely circulated internet letter. It makes some startling statistical claims and from a modest amount of research I found that the claims are either not very accurate or are unsupportable. However, some of the claims regarding crime and inmates are pretty close and that is very troubling. I offer a copy of the letter for your review and also some stats I pulled from the net with sources noted that either support or refute the claims.

Feel free to do your own research, because this is an area that is or ought to be of serious concern to every legitimate American Citizen or legal visitor which makes this internet hoax letter still worth reviewing and debating.

1. 40% of all workers in L. A. County ( L. A. County has 10.2 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card. (unsupported, likely pure fiction)

2. 95% of outstanding warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens. (close – see page 2)

3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens. (unsupported)

4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal , whose births were paid for by taxpayers. (inflated claim – about 50%)

Feinsteins Bailout Wrinkle

VAF22-249.jpegPosted by Tina

The Detroit News has revealed that California Senator Diane Feinstein will not support the auto maker bailout unless California green carmakers get a piece of the bailout pie:

“I do not support disadvantaging the next generation of American automobile companies in an effort to save the first generation.”

The particular company in question is Silicon Valley carmaker Tesla Motors, a company that has already applied for $400 million in EISA loans to build a new plant for their luxury $60,000, battery-powered family sedan. They insist that the original intent of the bailout legislation was to help the big three meet the big price tag of government fuel-mileage mandates but also to encourage auto makers involved in the new alternative vehicles.
