Market Brief

“Investors are cleaning out portfolios and getting rid of everything because nothing seems to be working.”

Ryan Detrick-Schaeffer’s Investment Research

Despite the bailout the market has retreated over 450 points in early morning trading, another black Monday. Ford has dropped to mid-$3, GM has halted trading! NYSE is trading at levels not seen since 04, some stocks are at historic lows for the decade. GE broke down to a 10 year low. But, oddly many bank stocks are holding up, possibly due to the bailout money and the fact they can’t be shorted. Money is tight and people are scared. Is this the time to buy bargains or put your money in the mattress?

Dick Morris Comments On McCain

Sarah Palins undoubted success in her debate with Joe Biden came as a relief to her supporters and a shot in the arm to McCains backers. Her doubters were left frustrated as she crafted a new style of political discourse, rooted in the vernacular of every day American life.

Climate Change Questioning the Theory

SunsetGoldenGateBridgeimage.jpegThe greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. – Stephen Hawking

Man made global warming, or climate change as its now being called, seems to have moved to the background as gasoline prices, economic woes, and elections drive the news but never fear, the global warming movement is still with us. Proponents of climate change are continuously working in the background with plans to save our world. Some of these changes are needed and wanted. Relying less on foreign fuel by finding alternatives is one example. Other changes may not be as necessary as we are being told but they are going to cost taxpayers an arm and a leg and they will most likely restrict or limit our choices if implemented. It would be wise to make sure that the things we do change are backed by sound science and logic rather than by emotional appeal and unproven theories. The success of the green movement thus far ensures that we will have change whether we want it or not. The reason? Dissenting views are not widely reported and even when they are the subject matter is difficult for the average person to understand or defend.

Morality, Campaign Cash & Voter Fraud

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” Abraham Lincoln

Posted by Tina

Several articles today reflect the state of our society. Each is indicative of moral decline and the shredded American values of honesty and integrity. Please consider the overall implications of these as you make choices for leadership in the upcoming election. We are living in times of great peril both from without and from within. Our children will forever be affected by the choices we make in the coming months. The preservation of our Constitution, the rule of law, and the hopes and aspirations of us all hang in the balance. I urge those reading Post Scripts to think seriously about what it means to be American and what America means to you as you read.

Setting the stage is an article about the moral decay that fueled the financial crisis. The remaining two address voting practices and funding. I hope you will follow the links to read them in full.

Feuding and Fighting Left and Right

KS16096.jpegby Tina Grazier

In society when two groups are creating division it can be frustrating for the casual observer. What is all the arguing about? It seems so unnecessary and unreasonable. Surely people can learn to listen to one another and find areas of agreement. Surely living together in peace is a more pleasing and worthy goal than is contentious verbal assault and disagreement. What must one do to get them to stop! How do we end the division?

Maybe the casual observer can move the argument to conclusion faster by unraveling the mystery behind what appears to be unnecessary rage and unreasonableness. Maybe gaining a better understanding about what is at stake would make a difference and allow him to move toward personal resolution. I cant guarantee that will happen by reading this post but I can provide the opportunity for it to happen.

My latest offering is an article titled Forgotten Foot Soldiers in War on Success, by Brady OLeary Investers.com.

While doing research for a book, The Audacity of Deceit: Barack Obama’s War on American Values Mr. O’Leary discovered a new voting block, the 30% of American voters who do not pay federal income taxes. His article reveals one aspect of the great political argument occurring in America today, providing much needed food for thought. Lets begin this venture with a look at a few of Mr. OLearys research findings:

Huge Wall Street Bailout Becomes Law

by JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS and DAVID ESPO, AP

WASHINGTON (Oct. 3) – With the economy on the brink and elections looming, Congress approved an unprecedented $700 billion government bailout of the battered financial industry on Friday and sent it to President Bush who quickly signed it.

“We have acted boldly to help prevent the crisis on Wall Street from becoming a crisis in communities across our country,” Bush said shortly after the vote, although he conceded, “our economy continues to face serious challenges.”

Fannie Mae Eases Credit To Aid Mortgage Lending

By STEVEN A. HOLMES New York Times – Published: September 30, 1999

(AND SO IT BEGAN….)

In a move that could help increase home ownership rates among minorities and low-income consumers, the Fannie Mae Corporation is easing the credit requirements on loans that it will purchase from banks and other lenders.

The action, which will begin as a pilot program involving 24 banks in 15 markets — including the New York metropolitan region — will encourage those banks to extend home mortgages to individuals whose credit is generally not good enough to qualify for conventional loans. Fannie Mae officials say they hope to make it a nationwide program by next spring.
