Prejudice among Dems may cost Obama votes, by David Paul Kuhn
In a report sure to spark a national conversation on race, an AP-Yahoo News study reported Saturday that white prejudice could be a significant enough factor to undermine Barack Obamas bid to be the first black president of the United States. *** The AP-Yahoo study concluded that white Democratic racism may cause 2.5 percent of voters to “turn away from Obama because of his race,” roughly the margin of George W. Bush’s victory over John F. Kerry in 2004. *** The AP-Yahoo study found that one-third of white Democrats cited a negative adjective when describing blacks and, of those, just 58 percent said they planned to back Obama. For example, AP reported that more than a quarter of white Democrats agreed that if blacks would only try harder, they could be just as well off as whites. Four in 10 white independents agreed, while a quarter described blacks as “violent.”
The story includes some interesting attitudinal information. I found the following to be the most compelling. In fact it might have been a better theme for the article:
Perhaps most noteworthy, the AP notes that the study itself found that race is not the biggest factor driving Democrats and independents away from Obama. It notes that doubts about his competency loom even larger.
Well…how about that. We wont see the media make a big deal of that competency thing (found near the bottom of the race article)…nope, it makes much more sense to push the bigot button. Who cares about competency when you can call ordinary thoughtful Americans bigots instead.
Once again liberals and liberal media and entertainment are culpable. The comments made by white democrats and independents are not at all racist but just thoughtful evaluations. Perceptions are often skewed by the images we see. and what are the images of black people most often seen on TV, in movies, and more importantly, on the news? They are often images of rioting, criminal activity, or of complaining protesting throngs of progressives and monorities demanding not only the rights they’ve already been granted but goodies…extra goodies:
When those interviewed were offered a choice of positive and negative adjectives to describe blacks, one fifth of all whites said the words boastful or “violent” strongly applied, while 29 percent cited the word “complaining.
Liberals removed Bill Cosbys show from our living rooms because, as they said, blacks couldnt relate to the loving, well disciplined, happy, educated, upper-middle-class Huxtable family. What a boneheaded move that was! The Huxtables were a competent American couple raising a bunch of competent, and quite normal, American kids. The white families that eagerly tuned in helped to make it one of the most popular shows of all time. If some blacks couldn’t relate maybe it’s because liberal government guilt programs made them needy and angry about being seperated from main stream American life…that is the sad legacy of the left.
