In Sacramento today Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger called for a temporary (1.5%) hike in sales tax saying that spending cuts alone would not stop the bleeding in a budget deficit that has grown to $11.2 billion. The state has seen a significant drop in revenues due to declines in the housing market (property taxes) and a sinking stock market (capital gains taxes). Personal budgets have been squeezed, people are tightening their belts and buying less so sales taxes have also decreased.
Will the sales tax plan work? Ahhh, that is the question! The answer falls on deaf ears but we keep trying
What happens when people are forced to pay more from their budgets in taxes? It shouldnt take a degree in business to get that most people will spend less. Add to this the tax increases that President elect Obama, Reid and Pelosi have in mind and our collective BUYING POWER will drop even more. What will that mean to small business and big business? Youre smart enough to answer that for yourselvescut backs for big business and how many more little shops and eateries will close their doors? How many artists will find that buyers for their goods and services dry up? How many small manufacturers will cut way back or go out of business? Where will these people find alternative work?
Its ALL about trickle. A dynamic growing economy causes money to flow and trickle up, sideways and down! An oppressed economy dries up…just like a faucet when the water source dries up.
The men and women we have sent to Sacramento and to Washington let us down over and over again with government programs and tax policies that spend us into debt. Attempts to stop these practices are met with resistance and spin. They do the things they do with no thought for tomorrow, no thought for behavioral changes that occur after they constrain us, and with no thought as to whether or not their programs work. This time at the national level, in the name of punishing the few people we call the haves, we are about to compound the problems with additional massive redistribution policies and higher taxes. The result will be greater debt and poverty trickling up.
Oppressive, excessive, irresponsible government will not end in America unless and until the people wake up to how the economy works. It wont stop until we wise up about who makes the country workthe citizens! It wont stop until people are educated about the incredible satisfaction to be had when we become the heroes of our own stories instead of asking and expecting the government to provideRepublicans used to know this, I imagine the Democrats did too when our country was younger. Taxes in France actually exceeded 100% of incomeare we headed there? Were being taxed left and rightwhen will the people wise up and say enough is enough?
