Strange Murder Cases Taken From the Headlines

(FOCUS ON CRIME AND PUNISHMENT) Four killers and four strange cases. Each killer has escaped the death penalty, despite mulitiple victims and a preponderance of evidence.


Case number one, Anthony Kelly, while a parolee he raped and killed multiple victims. The evidence was overwhelming, the killer was in denial and told the victim families some day they would appologize to him.

Case number two, Pvt. Ronald A. Gray, he was convicted of four murders and eight rapes in the Fayetteville, N.C., area between April 1986 and January 1987 while he was at Fort Bragg serving in the 82nd Airborn. Gray may yet be executed. He is among Fifteen service members six soldiers, seven Marines and 2 airmen that have been sentenced to death since 1984, which is when the current military death penalty system went into effect, but none have been excuted.

Case number three, Juan Manuel Alvarez, he caused a terrible communter train wreck that resulted in millions of dollars in damage and claimed 11 dead.

Case number four, Brian Nichols, during his escape he killed the judge, he killed the court recorder, he killed a deputy and a federal agent. An Altlanta jury was deadlocked on whether his actions rose to the level of the death penalty. He was given life instead.
