Rep Giffords Update

ABC News

Police believe that the gunman who shot a US congresswoman in an attack which left six dead and wounded 12 in the Arizona city of Tucson, did not act alone, the local sheriff said. ** The 22-year-old gunman, identified as Jared Lee Loughner, ran into the crowd and shot Gabrielle Giffords at close range with a semi-automatic pistol. ** Federal judge John Roll and a nine-year-old girl were among those killed in the shooting, which was outside a grocery store. ** Clarence Dupnik, sheriff of Pima County who is in charge of the probe into the attack, told a news conference authorities are seeking a second male in connection with the shooting. ** “There’s some reason to believe that he came to this location with another individual,” he said. ** Mr Dupnik said the gunman, who was arrested at the scene, “has kind of a troubled past, and we’re not convinced that he acted alone”. ** He said the gunman had a criminal past and was unstable but not insane, adding that the man was not talking to police officers in custody. ** YouTube videos posted in Jared Loughner’s name contain strange semi-political ramblings about “mind control” and terrorism.

American Spectator

Liberals who have attempted to exploit the tragedy in Arizona for political gain by trying to connect Sarah Palin to the shooting should be ashamed of themselves. At this point, we have more reason to blame the revolutionary writings of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels for what happened today. To clarify my intentions in making this point, I’m not trying to blame Marx and Engles. As I noted in an earlier post, it’s far too early to speculate on the shooters’ motives, and it’s hard to make out any coherent set of ideological beliefs from his ramblings.

In all six are dead including the child and a federal judge. Representative Giffords survived the surgery and is believed to have a good chance at recovery.

Washington Post

On Oct. 4, during a meeting with Loughner, his parents and college administrators, he agreed to withdraw, the college said. School officials told him he could return only if he obtained a clearance certifying that “in the opinion of a mental health professional, his presence at the College does not present a danger to himself or others.”

The federal Judge who was killed was a Geroge H. W. Bush appointee who was targeted for violence in 2009. The incidents are believed to be unrelated.

The sheriff of Pima County is a liberal?
    BULL!
    Keep digging yourself deeper.
Make all the excuses you want, Tina.
YOU and the hate you spew from this very blog share in the responsibility for these murders.

  2. Post Scripts says:

Quentin I came very close to hitting the delete button on your post as you have violated our ground rules for conduct, however I am recluctantly allowing it with a warning, do not attack Tina with unsupportable accusation. She deserves better.

To disagree is one thing, but to indict someone for the actions of a crazy person who went on a murderous rampage is over the top. I can’t imagine that anyone reading our blog would agree with you, not even Libby.

What little we do know about the shooter was he was seen a dangerous, mentally unstable person who embraced the communist manefesto. Whatever thoughts creep into the head of a crazy person are nobodies responsibility. If your litmus test was the worlds litmus test, we could not speak, we could not write, nor even make films without being open to accusation of being a coconspirator when a crazy person did a crazy thing.

Further, Tina has been forthright, open and honest in all of her writings and her conclusions are not hers alone, but are supported by millions of people and evidence to boot. We may or may not agree, but that is our opinion, just like she has her opinion. It does not make her guilty of spewing hate speech, that is a category unto itself and is narrowly defined. I’ve never once seen Tina deliberately go out of her way to engage in hate speech. But, when we engage in hot button issues someone is sure to make such a baseless charge in defense of their position. We do not play the race card or the hate speech card, as often done these days by others. We do prefer to engage in resepctful dialog that fosters knowledge and conveys ideas.

Q: “The sheriff of Pima County is a liberal?
    BULL!”

    Can you read?

  4. Steve says:

With all the liberal media propaganda blaming this on conservatives, we have to expect there will those susceptible, and that they will follow with wild accusations. If more people could think for themselves our country wouldn’t be in the mess we’re in now.

  5. Harold Ey says:

So a tragedy occurs and it all comes down to politics. Rahm Emanuel once said: You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. It seems to be the rule of thumb with Progressives.

Q, you need to post a apology for what you said to Tina about spew, I do not recall people attacking your comments or opinions in such a disagreeable manner

The best article on accusations of associated guilt I’ve read so far:

Those who purport to care about the tenor of political discourse don’t help civil debate when they seize on any pretext to call their political opponents accomplices to murder. Glenn Harlan Reynolds, WSJ

Quentin, I’m surprised at your statement, suely you can’t truly believe that statement.

This kid knew Gabrielle a few years, his friend said Loughner was angry at her because she did not respond to him as he wanted. He is a deranged human being, period.

Where were you when there were blogs and books on killing George Bush, several years ago, Alec Baldwin on Letterman said Henry Hyde and his family should be stoned to death.
Slate Magazine had a column on killing Sarah Palin, Did you speak against them?
I have never heard any one in the public eye call for the murder of anyone.
The left is trying to say the “targets” in certain areas on a Arizona map is a target against the congresswoman, you should know that is not true. The map was put up at the time of the campaign that meant targeted for a congresspesons election.
