The tenth anniversary of the Islamic jihadist attacks on New York on 9/11 will soon be here. On this solemn date, by decree of the mayor of New York City, there will be no clergy and no prayers for an event honoring those innocent victims who were murdered by Muslims terrorists.

It’s time this Mayor of New York hears from America! Let’s all let him know exactly how we feel about his insulting directive. Former Deputy Rudy Washington said, “This is America, and to have a memorial service where there’s no prayer, this appears to be insanity to me. I feel like America has lost its way.” Indeed Mr. Washington, it seems the liberals are trying to drag this nation down at every opportunity, and I’ll be damned if I’ll let this one go without a fight.

About the only way to reach Bloomberg is through a web form on his website. If you will follow the link below, please take a minute and urge him to rescind his ban on clergy and prayer at this year’s 9/11 ceremony. It’s an asinine decision that only a self-deluded extreme leftist could come up with and I’m getting pretty fed up with these bums, aren’t you?

Here is the link: The tenth anniversary of the Islamic jihadist attacks on New York on 9/11 will soon be upon us. Faith in God sustained millions of Americans on that day and the days that followed. Americans looked to God and to their spiritual leaders for comfort and guidance.

On Aug. 10th at a White dinner, President Barrack Hussein Obama, had this to say…”This evening reminds us of both the timeless teachings of a great religion (which great religion Mr. President? Say it!) and the enduring strengths of a great nation. Like so many faiths, Islam has always been part of our American family, (No, it hasn’t!) and Muslim Americans have long contributed to the strength and character of our country (So have Armenians and Peruvians, in fact I’ll bet they have done even more, so Mr. Prez you should have acknowledge them too or are you only sucking up to one very small minority these days?) , in all walks of life. This has been especially true over the past 10 years. (Oh really? What about the Muslim Americans charged with terrorism, aiding terrorists and even murder of innocents Americans over the last 10 years.)

In one month, we will mark the 10th anniversary of [September 11th when] Muslim Americans were innocent passengers on those planes . . . They were workers in the Twin Towers . . . They were cooks and waiters, but also analysts and executives.

Muslim Americans were first responders . . . On this 10th anniversary, we honor these men and women for what they are — American heroes.

Nor let us forget that every day for these past 10 years Muslim Americans have helped to protect our communities as police and firefighters . . . make no mistake, Muslim Americans help to keep us safe.

This year and every year, we must ask ourselves: How do we honor these patriots . . .”

UPDATE 8/29/11 (New York Times): White House tells Americans how to commemorate 9/11, saying it’s not ‘just about us” — think of other countries!

Suggested E-mail to Mayor Bloomberg

Dear Mayor Bloomberg:

I think your decision to ban prayer and clergy at a 9/11 ceremony is idiotic and inexcusable. I urge you to include representatives of the clergy and prayer in this year’s ceremony. If you don’t, your future role in politics will be in serious doubt.

20 Responses to Call to Action: Prayers and Clergy Banned at 9/11 Memorial in NY

  1. Chris says:

Before taking any kind of action, Post Scripts readers should be aware of two facts that didn’t make it into this article:

    1) Clergy members were not “banned” from the event. They simply weren’t invited.

    2) Clergy members have not been invited to any of the past 9/11 memorial ceremonies held at Ground Zero.

  2. MESSEJPRODUCTION says:

Even Osama Bin Ladin was granted clergy at his “memorial”. As a member of the armed forces I AM ASHAMED TO EVEN PROTECT IDEAS AS STUPIS AS THIS. WE HONOR EVERYONE ELSE’S RELIGION EXCEPT OUR OWN. WE WILL ACKNOWLEDGE GOD ONE WAY…OR THE OTHER.

  3. Post Scripts says:

Even worse than I thought…thanks Chris, I knew we could count on you to spit hairs. So if you were not invited to your graduation ceremonies would you feel banned and unwelcome?

If you tried to partake in said ceremonies without being invited, you would suddenly see how being banned works.

  4. Post Scripts says:

You make a good point Messej, that even Osama got his religious ceremony.

  5. Tina says:

Hmmm…the “event” to mark the 10th anniversary seems to have moved to DC…

    http://edition.cnn.com/2011/POLITICS/08/30/obama.september.11/index.html

Sunday, September 11, will mark the reopening of the (Washington) National Cathedral following last week’s 5.8-magnitude earthquake.

The day will begin with an interfaith vigil where religious leaders will gather in prayer as the cathedral tolls its 12-ton funeral bell to mark the moments when airplanes struck the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center, hit the Pentagon, and crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, said organizers.

Three different events will be part of the memorial…

  6. Chris says:

Jack, I’m not “splitting hairs,” there’s an important distinction between being banned and not being invited. More importantly was my second point, which you have not responded to. The lack of a clergy presence is consistent with memorials past, so why is it suddenly controversial?

This seems to be part of the pattern of conservatives voicing outrage without having all the facts. A while ago, Tina was angry over President Obama for allegedly skipping the “traditional National Day of Prayer breakfast,” but she didn’t seem to know that this was invented by the President George Bush Sr. and only continued by his son. The Fox News crowd was livid over the State Department sending Imam Rauf on a speaking tour, and didn’t realize that it was under President George W. Bush that these trips started. I could go on and on; there are a laundry list of issues that conservative blogs have accused President Obama or liberals in general of starting, when in fact they are part of longstanding policy. Now this memorial is being used as just another way to gin up anger against the president and his party, and that’s extremely distasteful.

  7. Post Scripts says:

Quentin’s Statement: Religion is what CAUSED the destruction (on 9-11).

Answer: Radicalized Islam was certainly the bond among the perpetrators of 9/11, it was later stated on several occasions by their leaders, it was our U.S. foreign policy coupled to our military actions, within predominately Muslim nations, and our support for Israel, that resulted in their sneak attack on 9/11.

The chief architect of the sneak attack, Osama Bin Laden, expressly stated that if the USA would modify certain behaviors (policies) future attacks may not be necessary. Islamic religious fervor was a talking point and it was used to recruit fanatics, but there was clearly more to this attack on 9/11 than religion.

Quentin asks: You want MORE religion?

Answer: What I don’t want is for the Christian religion (that gave this country our founding principles) to be ostracized to appease radical Islam or terrorists, or those atheists willing to use any excuse to suborn it at the cost of aiding the enemies of freedom.

    Quentin asks: Are you high?

Answer: No. That was insulting question.

Quentin asks: Seriously, are you out of your freaking minds! Are you trying to start The Crusades all over again?

Answer: Mor insults, but I shall try to give a decent answer. Al Qeada declared war on the United States on May the 26th, 1998 as recorded on a video tape by Osama bin Laden. Accompanying bin Laden on the video are Ayman Al-Zawahiri, bin Laden’s right-hand man and inspirational ally, and military adviser Mohammad Atef. The purpose of the war was to modify American behaviors and eventually Islamicize the world while killing all persons who opposed their so-called holy war.

Quentin’s statement: Oh, that’s right, YOU won’t be fighting the battles . . .cowards!

Answer: This author that Mr. Colgan accuses of being a coward has served his country during two wars, in uniform, and was officially recognized for not being a coward.

The last award, for not being a coward, and serving his country, was dated 2008, and signed by William H. Wade, Major General, The Adjutant General of the California National Guard and by Brigadier General Kevin G. Ellsworth. Commander. JTF DS. I have more proof, but I would rather not go there.

Quentin’s statement: Chris has correctly pointed out that you have left out important information!

Answer: This fact that clergy has not taken part in previous 9/11 ceremonies have yet to be verified and it may or may not be factual. However, it was something that had not come up at the time the article was printed, but Chris’ comments were attached to the article for your consideration.

Quentin’s statement: A tried and true tactic used for millennia to get the ignorant girded for battle. WTF are you trying to do? Get more innocents killed? You clowns are getting dangerous.

Answer: We present the facts as best as we can and we have no hidden agenda. What we believe is put right out here every day for public consideration. In doing that, we refused to shy away sensitive subjects for the sake of appeasement or political correctness. Most readers respect that and don’t resort to name calling.

We strongly believe in America’s right to exist and in our goodness as a people and we also know that it may be necessary to defend our freedom with our lives, if necessary. The fact that we are still here, to write our positions, does not mean we have not already risked our lives in defense of this nation and freedom. Your statement sir, is an offensive leap of logic and it was obviously done to incite. It ads nothing to your argument and frankly its getting boring.

Mr. Colgan, you have been warned many times not to engage in ad hominen attacks on writers and commentor’s at post scripts. This is your final warning or your comments will no longer be welcome. However, if you wish to have a well reasoned dialog, critical of our positions or not, we welcome that opportunity and we always have.

Your future fate on PS is in your own hands now.

  8. Post Scripts says:

Chris, if it is true that clergy were not invited in the past, I was absolutely not aware of it and it was not mentioned in any of the dozens of news stories I have read on this subject. However, my response to that would be the same as it today.

Please see my response to Quentin for more details on this. I think it will give you some incite on my thinking. Chris, I think I would like to back away from saying you were splitting hairs – this was an important point you were trying to make and I should have been more respectful of that.

  9. Tina says:

The greatest terror threat (currently) is said to be of the homegrown variety.

Our enemies want to oppress every religion, including the moderate Muslims among them which they murder on a regualr basis, to install a worldwide radical political/social version of Islam.

Prayer is the most powerful arrow we have in our quiver. The tenth anniversary “memorial” should absolutely include prayer…or at least a moment of silence to honor those who parished at that site on that fateful day.

The mayor is dodging what he feared would be a difficult thing to manage. Giuliani wouldn’t have had that consideration…and he would have managed it with diplomacy and grace.

  10. Tina says:

    Nicely done Jack!

My own response to Quentin was lost (second time in a week…it’s always the longer ones, lol). It’s just as well.

  11. Pie Guevara says:

This is entirely appropriate. It is what we should expect from liberals and Democrats in one of the most left wing, Democratic Party Machine controlled cities in the US.

    1) Clergy are not invited to 9/11 ceremonies.

    2) First responders are not invited to 9/11 ceremonies.

    3) NYC pushes through a Ground Zero mosque.

    4) NYC stalls on reconstruction of a Ground Zero Catholic Church. (And is still stalling ten years later!)

Welcome to Chris’ America. If you get worked up about it, your are just trying to “gin up anger against the president and his party”.

Oh sure, not being invited is not a ban. Huge distinction there. Not being invited is effectively an official ban from participating in the planned ceremonies, speeches, and official events. But it isn’t a ban!

Lastly, yeah, people scorned by Democrats and other assorted left-wing liberals do not have any cause to get angry over such callous treatment. It makes the scornful uncomfortable.

  12. Pie Guevara says:

Just as a point of information for the historically challenged, The Crusades were Europe’s response to 400 years of Islamic domination after the Moorish invasion spread Islam by the sword into the Iberian peninsula and beyond.

After the Christian reconquest of Spain The first Crusade was launched to regain the Holy Lands taken in Muslim conquests, ultimately resulting in the recapture of Jerusalem.

The notion that inviting clergy to 9/11 ceremonies would “start the Crusades all over again” is, of course, an example of the most extreme, mindless, and absurd babble typical of “Progressives” and the left in general.

Maybe that is why, ten years after the horrendous 9/11 attacks reconstruction of a Catholic church is still in bureaucratic limbo. The left is afraid that to let the church go ahead with reconstruction it might “start the Crusades all over again”.

  13. Pie Guevara says:

Speaking of trying to “gin up anger”. How about the recent concerted efforts by the left to gin up hatred toward the Tea party?

    Here is another one —

Muslim Democrat Representative: Tea party wants blacks ‘hanging on a tree’

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0811/62396.html

    Andre Carson, you are despicable.

  14. Pie Guevara says:

Evidently the brave Mr. Colgan thinks that allowing clergy (from any religion or just Christian?) to participate in official 9/11 ceremonies will cause more conflict and war. This time with Christians taking up arms.

Well, the last time I checked, Christians were not flying planes into buildings and there was no Christian “jihad”.

Think about just how fearful Quentin Colgan must be to formulate such a ridiculous postulate. The man is beside himself.

So, who is the coward here?

  15. Pie Guevara says:

    According to Colgan Theory:

When you use the rhetorical device of a question to formulate an insult, it is not an insult. So asking, “Are you high? Seriously, are you out of your freaking minds!” is not an insult.

Calling Post Scripts authors cowards is not an insult.

Socialism is an economic system, not a political system.

    ACK! ACK! ACK!

I have never seen a single post from Quentin Colgan that did not contain a personal attack or insult of one form or another. The guy cannot converse without resorting to ad hominen.

When provoked by boors like Quentin Colgan I too have engaged in insulting language in this forum.

Don’t ban Quentin Colgan, just don’t “invite” him to comment in the comments section! If you choose to do so I shall endeavor to refrain from ever again responding in kind to rude and snotty provocateurs like Mr.Colgan.

Ultimately, Quentin Colgan is self defeating. He is consistently obnoxious and rude.

Letting Colgan be Colgan allows others to observe just how far along he is in being a total wreck of a human being. He gets far more attention here than in his own miserable blog and he has already, effectively, sunk any political aspirations he may have for the future all by himself being himself in these pages.

As long as you can put up with him, I can. Colgan doesn’t make for very good entertainment and watching a fellow human being self destruct is more painful than it is intriguing or interesting.

You would actually be doing him a favor if you chose not to invite him to comment.

  16. Pie Guevara says:

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but Jesus himself engaged in public prayer. He taught the Lord’s Prayer in public as part of the discourse on ostentation at the Sermon Of The Mount.

Jesus was not commanding people to pray in private, rather he was instructing them not to pray ostentatiously in public like the hypocrites. There is a difference, a distinct one. It does not surprise me at all that the distinction completely escapes Mr. Colgan.

Hypocrites may engage in public prayer but if you engage in public prayer (especially with a group on a solemn occasion) it does not make you a hypocrite.

Speaking of hypocrites, Quentin Colgan who often mocks and belittles Christians now considers himself an expert on Jesus and the Bible and pretends piety?

No doubt Mr. Colgan thinks himself quit clever in his lame attempt to twist the Bible to his own purposes in order to mock and ridicule others with his witless “defy the Lord” post.

  17. Nick F says:

Jesus did command that, as part of a specific example drawing a contrast from the Pharisees, however if Quentin didn’t pick and choose his biblical excerpts conveniently he would also find several passages in scripture which admonish us to make public displays of our faith. I don’t recall Jesus conducting his entire ministry from the confines of a closet, but who knows what Quentin has re written in his own Bible, no doubt correcting God’s punctuation and inserting the words “social justice” liberally throughout the text.

But don’t worry Quentin, that’s not an attack on you, its a genuine theory concerning your common inability to understand basic texts within their complete context. Maybe in response you can claim I’m drunk, or call me a stupid head, I can’t say such a response from you would particularly surprise me.

  18. Post Scripts says:

This post is to help Q understand the word ad hominem as he feels I misused it, but I don’t. It seems to apply very well to his commentary:

    1. appealing to one’s prejudices, emotions, or special interests rather than to one’s intellect or reason.

    2. attacking an opponent’s character rather than answering his argument.

Thanks Pie, Nick, Tina, well said all of you!

  19. Tina says:

Quentin: “Prayer is the most powerful arrow in our quiver, truly. But we don’t need to defy the Lord just because it would make you happy.”

In terms of individual habits on a daily basis I agree.

We aren’t talking about individual habits of behavior. The Lord was warning against arrogance and ego taking precedence over humble displays of reverence for HIM.

It is at times like that fateful morning of September eleventh that we are most fully awake and aware of our own small selves and the preciousness of life. The solemn reading of the names of those who parished on 911 was a form of humble prayer in my experience.

  20. Barry Peters says:

    Quentin,
Relationship with Christ is the answer not man made religion.(John3:3 You must be Born Again.)
Islam is a doctrine of hate and Christianity is a doctrine of Love. The Bible reveals the two with the promise to Abraham in the book of Gen,
Ishmael was the result of the sinful nature…man not waiting for God’s promise. ISLAM RELIGION
Issac was the divine promise that leads to Jesus the Messiah. The promise. A redemptive plan for us.
    CHRISTIAN FAITH
Jesus said I am the ONLY WAY….”The way the truth and the life no one comes to the Father except through Me”
Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God…
PRAYER IN JESUS NAME TO THE FATHER CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS
Read the Bible and if you can prove this wrong reply.
    In Christ Barry
