Obamacare is a Train Wreck – Obama Moves On

Posted by Tina

The President’s signature legislation is a train wreck. Americans are stuck with a pile of trash. The President doesn’t deal with his messes…the trash he leaves in his wake…he just moves on.

Where will Obama wield his destructive hammer next? Looks like he’s determined to ruin the economy further through the EPA. The President issued as executive order in Fridays document dump. Here’s part of what he had to say:

“The impacts of climate change — including an increase in prolonged periods of excessively high temperatures, more heavy downpours, an increase in wildfires, more severe droughts, permafrost thawing, ocean acidification, and sea-level rise — are already affecting communities, natural resources, ecosystems, economies, and public health across the Nation. These impacts are often most significant for communities that already face economic or health-related challenges, and for species and habitats that are already facing other pressures. Managing these risks requires deliberate preparation, close cooperation, and coordinated planning by the Federal Government, as well as by stakeholders, to facilitate Federal, State, local, tribal, private-sector, and nonprofit-sector efforts to improve climate preparedness and resilience; help safeguard our economy, infrastructure, environment, and natural resources; and provide for the continuity of executive department and agency (agency) operations, services, and programs. … In doing so, agencies should promote: (1) engaged and strong partnerships and information sharing at all levels of government; (2) risk-informed decision making and the tools to facilitate it; (3) adaptive learning, in which experiences serve as opportunities to inform and adjust future actions; and (4) preparedness planning.”

The lies and deception packed into this statement were meant to sound scarey alarm bells. Democrats need those environmental extremist nuts to come out and vote in the next election so he’s tossing them a big meaty bone.

But it could mean anything…and that’s the point of this article.

The President will create another task force. This time it will include governors and mayors from across the country. Republican governors have declined to participate in the Presidents latest efforts to bully the people but at least three Republican mayors have agreed to serve. The Hill lists the task force members:

The Democratic governors on the task force are: Neil Abercrombie (Hawaii), Jerry Brown (Calif.), Jay Inslee (Wash.), Jack Markell (Del.), Martin O’Malley (Md.), Pat Quinn (Ill.), and Peter Shumlin (Vt).

There are, however, several local GOP officials on the task force: The mayors of Fort Collins, Colo.; Greensburg, Kan.; and Carmel, Ind..

Get ready for the President to bypass Congress and a huge number of governors and mayors, not to mention the people, to impose draconian federal dictates in every single community in America. Millions of our tax dollars will be flushed down a toilet. In the end the return on our “investment” of tax dollars will be zot and the economy and jobs will take yet another hit. All of this will be done in the name of the fantasy of environmental “climate change”.

This executive order could become the most fascist move yet by this President and his administration. The President won’t be around for the damage from this train wreck, not that he has taken responsibility for anything in his presidency. He’ll just continue to move on.

We could be well on our way out of this dismal economic mess if it were not for the horrid policies of Obama and Democrats.

  2. Libby says:

Oh, settle down. The ACA websites are up and running, more or less. Now we wait for the post-deadline numbers.

If you don’t want to do that, then you are going to have to come up with some constructive alternatives to the ACA, because we are not going back to the deal where you get your insurance canceled as soon as you turn up sick. There is absolutely no support for that. So, get to work.

And I am baffled by your persisting Obmama fixation. The man is toast, electorially speaking.

Now, what you want to worry about is whether the sequester cuts, over the next year an a half, cost you, not only the White House for another eight years, but the House as well.

  3. Pie Guevara says:

The great “misspeaker” (“misspoke” is the NYT’s new term for pathological serial lying) is not exactly moving on. Obama thugs (Dan Pfeiffer and John Podesta’s Think Progress goons) are attacking a cancer patient, Edie Littlefield Sundbywho, who has lost her insurance due to ObamaCare here in California.

So much for the ignoramuses who claim in this forum that California Covered “is running just fine”. What a diaper load.

Libby: “you are going to have to come up with some constructive alternatives to the ACA”

You settle down…we have come up with several plans that would serve the people without destroying the industry and peoples lives.

” I am baffled by your persisting Obmama fixation.”

It’s quite simple Libby. I have learned from the extremists in the Democrat Party that they have no respect for ideas. Their game is not a game to win based on ideas. Their game is a game of power and control won through the destruction of the “enemy,” as Obama once said of Republicans to his constituents.

So my fixation, I would call it commitment, isn’t just about Obama, it is about the anti-American radical extremists that run the Democrat Party. This group favors the ideas of the old bald white guys of the Marxist and fascist revolutions in Europe to the old bald white guys of the American revolution. Everything they do and say reflects their devotion to these failed systems of extremist ideals.

“…whether the sequester cuts, over the next year an a half, cost you, not only the White House for another eight years, but the House as well.”

If we do it will be because the American people bought another pack of lies and BS excuses.

When he ran for office in 2007 Obama stood before the throngs and slammed his predecessor for deficits and debt. He said it was un-American and irresponsible.

Not only did the President outspend the former president 8 year spending record, he also outdid him on debt.

To top it off the spin machine blamed the sequester on Republicans but it was Obamas idea:

CHRIS WALLACE, “FOX NEWS SUNDAY” HOST: Bob, as the man who literally wrote the book about the budget battle, put this to rest. Whose idea was the sequester, and did you ever think that we’d actually get to this point?

BOB WOODWARD: First, it was the White House. It was Obama and Jack Lew and Rob Nabors who went to the Democratic Leader in the Senate, Harry Reid, and said, ‘this is the solution.’ But everyone has their fingerprints on this. (FOX News Sunday, February 17, 2013)

The opinion expressed by this black leftist blogger says it all:

President Obama is a full partner with the Republicans in the latest episode of the manufactured disaster saga: sequestration. “The idea was to make every popular constituency in the country scream – and accept the inevitability of massive entitlement cuts.” It’s a goal shared by corporatists in both parties.

What that guy may not realize is that the programs need reform or they will collapse anyway and if that happens all at once the country will really be a mess. These programs have crippled so many people so badly they won’t have any idea how to care for themselves.

    Talk about irresponsible!

  5. Pie Guevara says:

    Dear Chastising Progressive Doorknobs —

Cancellation of insurance for sick people could have easily been remedied without the disaster of ObamaCare, which, as it turns out, RESULTS IN CANCELLATION OF INSURANCE FOR SICK PEOPLE.

  6. Tina says:

    Pie you are absolutely right!

The Reagan recovery according to CNN:

The economy grew at 4.5% in 1983, with a few quarters of growth north of 8%. In 2011, meanwhile, the economy grew just 1.7%.

In just one month — September 1983 — the economy added more than a million jobs. For the full year, the economy added almost 3.5 million jobs, a trend that continued into 1984, an election year in which Reagan captured 49 states in a landslide victory.

Obama can claim job growth of 1.8 million in 2011. A welcome comeback, but still tepid by comparison.

Looking ahead to 2012, Obama could replicate the 243,000 jobs created in January over each of the next 11 months and still not approach Reagan’s total for 1984 of 3.9 million.

The people gave the presidency back to Obama because he lied to them and the Democrats lied to them.

They continue to lie to the American people because t.hey want power and control…a permanent one party rule in DC.

Part of the agenda with this sharp turn toward the greens will be control at the local and state levels as well. What they accomplished in healthcare they hope to accomplish in energy using the same emotionally driven arguments and lies about what their proposals mean.

  8. More Comon Sense says:

I’d like to pose a question and hear others opinions. After spending a considerable amount of time with my insurance broker I have to ask the question, “Why are there “exchanges” and why is there a website?”

I realize they are included in the ACA but I’m completely baffled as to why we spent 600 million dollars to create the website and the bureaucracy associated with the ACA. I’m not arguing if ACA is a good or bad law with this question(I believe it is bad). I just can’t figure out why the exchanges and the associated websites are necessary.

    The ACA does the following (in a nutshell);

    1. establishes a mandate to have health insurance,
    2. establishes minimum policy requirements,
    3. eliminates consideration of preexisting conditions,
    4. establishes subsidies for some people based on income.

People on the lowest income levels are being funneled into Medicaid. This is no different than it was prior to the ACA. I believe this is the only government insurance in the exchanges. All other policies are being provided by the independent commercial insurance companies through the exchanges. Given this is the case why is it necessary for the government to provide an exchange. If you go to a broker or an insurance company and your income is below the cut-off point you would be directed to the Medicaid office just as you are now. Before the ACA people would either go directly to the insurance companies or use an insurance broker to compare all available companies and their policies. Why is it necessary in the ACA for this to be different?

The law establishes the mandate to have health insurance, but that is enforced through your income taxes by the IRS. It has nothing to do with the process to acquire insurance. We have to have auto insurance but we don’t have to go through the state government to get it. The company just issues a certificate of coverage that we provide to the government at the time we register the car as proof of compliance. Couldn’t the heath insurance company just provide a document that is filed with an income tax to show proof of compliance.

The ACA dictates minimum coverage allowed for policies sold but that just determines what policies are allowed to be sold. This isn’t any different if you get your insurance from a broker or the exchange. So this can’t be the reason for the exchanges.

The ACA eliminates consideration of preexisting conditions. This too is the same no matter if you use an exchange or a broker.

The ACA provides for subsidies for some income levels. I was told that I don’t qualify but if I did I would have to go through the exchange to get my subsidy. But this doesn’t make sense to me. I may be wrong but I believe the subsidy is provided as income tax credits, not reduce premiums. It is my understanding that you will still have to pay the full premium but those that qualify for a subsidy will get that subsidy at the time they file their income taxes. So why do we need the exchange. Without the exchange the person would get their insurance from a broker and, when they filed their income tax they would file a document that showed they had insurance along with how much they paid for it. If their income was in the subsidy range they would get their tax credit.

Lets assume I’m wrong about the premium not being reduced if you are on a subsidy. If that is the case you would need to know if someone qualified for a subsidy at the time they acquired the insurance. This can be done by a person declaring their income level with the insurance company. If the number they declared is in the subsidy range they get a reduced premium and the insurance company gets the difference from the government. If the insured lied and got a subsidy they would have to pay it back with penalties when they filed their return at the end of the year. This isn’t much different than what self employed people do when they pay their estimated taxes.

So why do we need the exchanges?

It is interesting to me that the website was changed at the last minute to acquire all of a persons information before ever giving any numbers about premiums. Even if you are just browsing policies. It is also interesting to me that the ACA website also registers people to vote. Is this the real reason for the exchange? The government gets some very private information about all the people that apply. This information definitely could be used for the wrong purpose. Also, the most likely people that will use the exchanges are poor people, people that are most likely Democrats. Although I have no problem with everyone registering to vote I do have a problem with spending 600 million of tax payers money to do this.

Okay, I’d like to hear other people on this one.

Blue Shield was very clever. They gave the option of a years waiver, your current plan at the same rate. The delayed sticker shock will continue on into 2015 when the people who chose that option will have to purchase a new plan…unless this things collapses.

I keep wondering about the poor people who think this is all going to be free and will be faced with co-pays and deductibles for the first time in their lives. Whoa…wouldn’t want to be the lady behind the glass.

  11. Libby says:

I don’t really know anything about the private insurance market, as its always been priced well beyond my means … but has it ever been possible to shop health insurance policies via an agent? I’ve never heard of it, anyway.

But that’s one of the things the exchanges are for, to give individuals access to a wide range of plans and pricing and whatnot.

  13. Pie Guevara says:

Re #9 More Comon Sense :

This is how I see it.

The reason for the exchanges is to create yet another government database to collect and log personal information on U.S. citizens and to facilitate a single payer, government controlled system which the ACA is merely is a step towards.

  14. More Common Sense says:

Libby, everything that is available in the exchange is available outside of the exchange. Agents have the ability to offer the same policies.

  15. Libby says:

But, as I said … I’ve never had anything to do with an insurance agent … the whole business being priced beyond my means. Now, do you see the purpose of the exchanges?

  16. Libby says:

“If we do it will be because the American people bought another pack of lies and BS excuses.”

And not because the sequester cuts have put several hundred thousand people out of work? … because the Congress (specifically the House) will not do its job?

    Well, we shall see.

I heard today that the Senate voted affirmatively on a fifteen year old bill … to the effect that you can’t sack a gay person from his job … for being gay. And I also hear that the House (aka Boehner) will not consider it.

I really don’t think that’s going to do you any good either.

  17. Tina says:

Libby: “And not because the sequester cuts have put several hundred thousand people out of work?”

Which people? The ones in government that will get back pay and not have to pay tax on the unemployment benefits they received in the mean time? Oh, and are now back at work.

    Washington Post:

The battle over raising the debt ceiling consumed Washington in the summer of 2011, with Republicans refusing to agree to raise it unless spending was cut by an equivalent amount. Obama pressed but failed to get an agreement on raising revenue as part of the package. Woodward’s book details the efforts to come up with an enforcement mechanism that would make sure the cuts took place — and virtually every mention shows this was a White House gambit.

    Page 215 (July 12, 2011):

They turned to [White House national economic council director Gene] Sperling for details about a compulsory trigger if they didn’t cut spending or raise taxes in an amount at least equivalent to the debt ceiling increase.

“A trigger would lock in our commitment,” Sperling explained. “Even though we disagree on the composition of how to get to the cuts, it would lock us in. The form of the automatic sequester would punish both sides. We’d have to September to avert any sequester” — a legal obligation to make spending cuts.

“Then we could use a medium or big deal to force tax reform,” Obama said optimistically.

“If this is a trigger for tax reform,” [House speaker John] Boehner said, “this could be worth discussing. But as a budget tool, it’s too complicated. I’m very nervous about this.”

“This would be an enforcement mechanism,” Obama said.

Short version: The White House proposed the idea of a compulsory trigger, with Sperling calling it an “automatic sequester,” though initially it was to include tax revenue, not just spending cuts. Boehner was “nervous” about using it as a budget tool.

    Page 326 (July 26):

At 2:30 p.m., [White House Budget director Jack] Lew and [White House legislative affairs director Rob] Nabors went to the Senate to meet with [Senator Majority Leader Harry] Reid and his chief of staff, David Krone.

“We have an idea for a trigger,” Lew said.

“What’s the idea,” Reid asked skeptically.

    “Sequestration.”

Reid bent down and put his head between his knees, almost as if he was going to throw up or was having a heart attack. He sat back up and looked at the ceiling. “A couple of weeks ago,” he said, “my staff said to me that there is one more possible” enforcement mechanism: sequestration. He said he told them, “Get the hell out of here. That’s insane. The White House surely will come up with a plan that will save the day. And you come to me with sequestration?”

Well, it could work, Lew and Nabors explained.

    What would the impact be?

They would design it so that half the threatened cuts would be from the Defense Department….The idea was to make all of the threatened cuts so unthinkable and onerous that the supercommittee [tasked with making additional cuts] would do its work and come up with its own deficit reduction plan.

Lew and Nabors went through a laundry list of programs that would face cuts.

    “This is ridiculous,” Reid said.

That’s the beauty of a sequester, they said, it’s so ridiculous that no one ever wants it to happen. It was the bomb that no one wanted to drop. It actually would be an action-forcing event.

“I get it,” Reid said finally.

Short version: Once tax increases were off the table, the White House staff came up with a sequestration plan that only had spending cuts and sold Harry Reid on the idea.

Corruption, lies, deception, manipulation…anything but governance in bipartisan fashion.

  18. Tina says:

    Typically progressive (quoting Libby):

“I’ve never had anything to do with an insurance agent…”

That’s one way to keep a prejudice

” … the whole business being priced beyond my means”

And she would know that because she has never inquired?

She has said she will pay the fine rather than go on the exchange and choose a plan. Does this mean she once again won’t bother to inquire or does it mean that she makes too much to get a subsidy and so the products offered on the exchange are no bargain?

One way or the other this statement tells me she hasn’t the information to judge one way or the other. Single payer, which she favors, is her worst nightmare…a big government monopoly.

  19. Tina says:

More Common Sense my sense of the situation is that the Democrats wished to accomplish many things with this law…better coverage and promised lower prices was a ruse.

The exchanges were developed because they wanted young people to experience getting their insurance from government. They wanted to grab control over 20% of the economy and they need the participation of young people for this to work. They believe this will lead to permanent Democrat power at the federal level. Having our records on file and the IRS to force compliance further ensures their power. The law is designed to eventually run independent insurers out of the market so the exchanges will be important down the road. Corporatist companies will service us at the behest of the now powerful HHS Secretary and the thousands of pages of regulations she has and will continue to write.

Who wrote the ACA? Where did it begin? Why the anti health care reform?

The ACA started out at the heritage foundation

    Romneycare was a test case

The democrats gave the republicans what they wanted in the ACA. The democrats wanted single payer.

The whole hate deal is the same reason congress does nothing. They will never allow a democrat to do anything. Especially a n African American.

I believe the dictatorship statement of my way or the highway was telling. The tea party wants to take over the US government for a fascist state.

The koch brothers are buying out California as we speak.

We are not going back to paying for health Insurance only to be cancelled when we need it.

Reagan was the start of the end. When just when did the money and jobs trickle down? The economics charts show the beginning of income inequality not a trickle down.

healthcare and humanity should not be dirty little words. capitalism only worked when balanced with socialism.

The Trans pacific partnership will end the sovereignty of the USA and is a bad deal for Americans. All Americans and our countries sovereignty. But not a whisper round these parts.

Now repeating untrue propaganda does not make it a fact. States who opted out and put the burden on the fed gov will be sorry next year. LOL

Now for the personal examples. I hope no one is on tri care or medicaid ya know the gov healthcare plans

Did you even read the WaPo article you cited? The last sentence of your quoted portion:

“Short version: Once tax increases were off the table, the White House staff came up with a sequestration plan that only had spending cuts and sold Harry Reid on the idea.”

It seems like the White House tried to be bipartisan by taking tax increases off the table, and that still didn’t work.

A Pile of Trash was the Old Insurance Plans. I have gotten better coverage cheaper. My friend got better coverage for $100.00 m0re a month that covers everything where she had only 2 visits a year and 1 emergency room visit a year. Sorry but instead of trashing everything read the bill and help make it better.

The Bill was not written by Obama.

It seems that anything that is not done by the Koch tea Party is not Ok. Everything has to be Tea party written or not at all. I prefer Democracy to dictatorship.

Shutting down the Gov and taking 24 billion out of the economy for tea party cruz to raise 2 million to take out republicans in the Senate is tyranny Period.
