Push to End the Plastic Bag Ban Under Way

plastic bagPosted by Tina

Last week plastic bag manufacturers succeeded in getting authorization from the office of Attorney General Kamala Harris to collect the 500,000 signatures required to place their measure to end the bag ban on the next available ballot. A successful campaign for signatures would prevent the ban from going into affect until after the voters have a chance to vote. The plastic bag ban signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown is scheduled to go into affect in July 2015 if plastic bag makers fail in their bid to let the voters decide. CBS Sacramento shares the bag makers position:

A national coalition of plastic bag manufacturers says voters will be on their side when they learn the law, SB270, authorizes a 10-cent fee for paper bags that are now often provided for free.

“If this law were allowed to go into effect it would jeopardize thousands of California manufacturing jobs, hurt the environment, and fleece consumers for billions so grocery store shareholders and their union partners can line their pockets,” Lee Califf, executive director of the American Plastic Bag Alliance, said in a news release.

You can be sure that environmentalists will fight this measure. Be on the lookout for activists with clip boards. Read the petition before signing to make sure it’s the petition you support.

One Response to Push to End the Plastic Bag Ban Under Way

I have always thought this was a needless law, In the past year, I have only seen ONE bag roaming around lose, ONE and only ONE. Maybe that one to many for a “feel good and emotionally charged person” of knee jerk, needy Government control in their lives, but far from the crisis as presented by lackluster Politian’s seeking a meaningless easy cause to champion. Mostly because they can’t resolve real issues.

I take personal responsibility for the disposal and my needed secondary use (for certain things)of these items, so why can’t Government dependent addicts do the same, or is the concept of self reliance so lost to them as not enter their realm of thinking.

If your fed up with this type of hyperbole, that is only presented to divert your attention from the real problems we citizens face(mostly created by California’s quagmire of stupid politician’s) here’s a link to sign up to fight this over the top law called SB270.
