A Short PS on American Culture

by Jack

Sometimes I feel like I’ve just taken a short sabbatical to the North Pole only to return to a California that’s changed so much I hardly recognize it.

It started with the Californication of politics (rabid liberalism) and now it’s spread into the Californication of the family.   This once great nation-state with it’s enviable accomplishments ranked us so high in everything, education, employment, housing, transportation, agriculture, water, energy and it brought us great wealth and we built great institutions from the wealth.  Then our success and natural abundance brought us something else.  It brought the entitlement class and the 60’s hippy revolution.  It brought us the ”turn on and drop out generation.”  And it also bought us those desperate for a piece of the action.  But, the latter didn’t want to acquire it in the traditional way, they preferred to take and change our cultural values.   It was a bad combination, like the perfect storm.

So it was some 60 years ago these forces began the slow and steady Californication through liberalism and cultural shifts.  It brought us politicians that worshiped at the alter of wealth-shifting taxes and big government which dovetailed so well with their socialist ideology and utopian philosophy.

State government grew and grew it would eventually assume the role of the family provider.  This minimized the role the traditional male provider.   The State would provide for the single mothers.  Their children would be subsidized – no need for Dad.  The State would provide “free” housing aka Section 8, provide for “free” or at least subsidized medical coverage (Medical) and “free” school lunches for kids who’s parent didn’t want to make them lunches which might have been non-nutritious according to the new SNAP standards.  And let’s not forget our all important bi-lingual education and still there was more, much more that the State would provide…free!   Thus we nationalized, or should I say, Californicated the CA family and look at the results.

The unique California culture that existed here just 60 years ago was overwhelmed by an influx of immigrants that chose not to assimilate and created their own sub-cultures.  We’ve seen that reflected in legislation and in race based legislative clubs like the Hispanic Caucus or the Black Caucus.

As a result, where we were once ranked consistently in the top 3 states, CA is now ranked 45th out of 50 in K-12 education.  And that’s pretty much how the rest of California has gone…plummeting downhill on greased skis.   (Meanwhile taxes crept up until we’re now tied for 2nd place among the most taxed.)

Cal Watch Dog writes:  In 2013  the push to expand government aid programs has as a backdrop California’s poverty rate of 23.5 percent — the highest in the nation.  The national average is 16.1 percent. The U.S. Census Bureau said the high poverty rate was driven in part by California’s high cost of living, which is never a focus of the Legislature.

Thank you socialist Democrats, y0u’ve done a number on CA.  You completely trashed the idea the immigrants ought to assimilate in order to protect our values and cultural norms and you trashed the foundations of American idealism.

Calif. is on the same path as Michigan and the city of Detroit where Democrats have been in control for decades.

We’ve come a long way from the days when Reagan was our governor and the state was where everyone wanted to live because it was affordable and our schools were ranked amongst the best in the country.

Some good news is, the Black community is waking up to the lies from Democrats and have organized to educate Black voters before the election in Nov.

‘Restore the Dream’ Leaders: ‘It’s Not a Black Thing… It’s An American Thing’:

“Yesterday at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C., a group of distinguished conservative activists launched “Restore the Dream 2014,” a campaign to address the serious culture problems impacting the African-American community.

“Hope and change liberals have failed the black community in America,” said Niger Innis, Executive Director of TheTeaParty.net and main spokesperson of the campaign. “The sad state of affairs didn’t come to fruition under one president, but tragically under a presidency that promised so much; the situation in these communities has gotten worse.”

Organizers of yesterday’s event provided a number of eye-opening statistics to illustrate the current state of affairs for the African-American community:

•Only 52% of African-American males graduate from high school in four years.

•Unemployment rate among African-Americans is 11.5%. That’s twice the national average.

•The poverty rate for African-Americans has increased sharply since 2008, rising from 12% to 16.1%.

•The average income for African-Americans is $20,000 less than the national average.

•African-American home ownership is 21% less than the rest of the country.

•According to the 2013 National Report Card, the gap in fourth-grade math test scores between black and white students has widened to 40 points – the largest gap since the national study began in 2003.”

More good news from the state of Indiana.

Indiana to Start Requiring Food Stamp Recipients Work, Be in Job Training, or Job Hunting:

“Next spring, thousands could be cut from Indiana’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

Indiana has previously waived the federal requirement that SNAP recipients are either employed, actively seeking employment or in training for future employment.

But now the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration has announced that, as of 2015, the federal requirement will be enforced and as a result, approximately 65,000 people will be cut from the program.

According to Fox 59 in Indianapolis, Indiana’s new requirement mandates that “any able-bodied Indiana adult without children will need to be working at least 20 hours a week, be in job training, or searching for employment in order to qualify.”

Rachel Sheffield, a research assistant in Domestic Policy Studies at The Heritage Foundation, said work requirements foster accountability:

Even in good economic times, work rates are low among able-bodied adults on food stamps. About half of food stamp households that include an able-bodied adult perform zero hours of work. Lifting the waiver would mean that able-bodied adults without dependents would be limited to three months of food stamps unless they are working or participating in some type of work program at least 20 hours a week. A work requirement encourages self-sufficiency for those who are able and also helps ensure that benefits are going to those most in need.

Indiana State Sen. Jim Merritt told Fox 59 that the work requirement holds SNAP recipients accountable.”

Peggy, there’s nobody we know who wouldn’t be for supporting the truly needy. Great comments. Thanks for saying it. Only an idiot would want to keep people on an allowance with no incentive to do better for themselves. That’s never worked in all of human history and it won’t work now, no matter how many liberals believe it.

FYI: A must read from the desk of Sharyl Attkisson.

Account of Clinton Aide’s Benghazi Document Sifting Familiar to Career Public Servant:

“To Sonya Gilliam, a recent account of improper sorting of Benghazi-related documents at the State Department brought back vivid memories of her own encounters with high-level government officials who withheld, deleted or destroyed public records.

And one name stood out for its familiarity: Cheryl Mills.

A former deputy assistant secretary of state had told The Daily Signal that Mills was present during an after-hours document operation in a basement room of the State Department in October 2012. Mills was chief of staff to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.”
