The Government Accountability Office is investigating how funds for state exchanges have been tracked. What they are finding is disturbing…and reflective of the incompetence and waste of big bureaucratic programs.

Neither the states examined by the GAO nor the administration detailed how grant funding for information-technology projects was spent.
Also, the states and the administration didn’t track how much of $2.78 billion in Medicaid matching funds was used to fund exchange operations or development, according to Reason, which did not name the states implicated in the draft report.
The draft report appears to lay the blame on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which manages Obamacare.
“Rather than require states to report spending on specific products, CMS required states running their own exchanges to report spending on five general categories — IT contracts, IT consultants, IT personnel, IT equipment and IT supplies,” Reason’s report said. “The vast majority of the grant money went to contracts for services like ‘systems integration, project management, and independent validation and verifications.'”
$2.78 Billion is nothing to sneeze at but, sadly, this is just one example of the way big government functions…very badly. How many hours do the American people work to pay for this kind of recklessness? Why should the American people rely on such as these rather than themselves and each other? Well, we shouldn’t rely on bureaucracies. We work hard, we create the jobs, we willingly give to charities, there is no good reason to turn so much of our money to the federal government.
Tax reforms, lower tax rates, and a smaller federal government are the keys to empowering the people and restoring America to prosperity…prosperity for all of the people.
Here’s a novel idea – let’s hold the bureaucrats personally financially responsible when they pour taxpayer $$ down the rabbit hole.
Might – just might – make them a bit more careful on how and on what they spend the money.
And if that doesn’t work, then FIRE ’em!
Great ideas…I’ve thought of them myself. I particularly like making them pay for the unaccounted for funds and government waste. Something has to wake them up. Garnish their pensions and wages!
I think our only recourse is to fire them but the system works against us on that front, as it should. It’s not perfect but better than anything else.
