Trump’s Winning Economic Ways ~ A Challenge to $4 Billion Boeing Contract

Posted by Tina

According to IBD the economic optimism index has hit a ten year high since Trumps election. In addition to Trumps tax and regulatory plans have given folks hope for better times ahead but it’s also Trump’s negotiating style. Persuading Carrier to remain in the US is just one example. His willingness to divest himself of conflict of interest investments is another. But he’s also signaling his commitment to put our government on a strict budget to save money and eliminate waste. Today he challenged what he called “out of control” costs for a contract with Boeing for 2 Air Force One aircraft: “Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!”

Trump is giving notice not just to Boeing, and other companies, but to the big spenders in government who make deals with taxpayer money. Trump is serious about putting our government on a sensible budget. that’s something every working American should be able to support. He’s not even in the WH yet and he’s already making strides to make America great again. Wah hoo!

The early indications of what this man will be like in office are very encouraging. For example: He arranged for some tax breaks to save over 1000 good paying blue collar jobs. The cost to taxpayers will be about $435 per job. The dollars put back into the local economy from each payroll check will more than offset that tax break. Would a democrat have ever thought of this? I don’t think so.

Next: The cost overruns by Boeing for the president’s new plane needed to be addressed. Good for Trump. The message from him is very clear, no more blank checks. Again, not something a democrat would ever do, is it?

Imagine a government that no longer issues blank checks to open ended crony contracts! The theme in Washington has been “it’s not my money, so who cares?” for too long! But, it is all of our (tax) money. And it’s about time those in Washington acted like it was coming right out of their pockets too, not just ours!

We know that Washington is a corrupt place and now Trump has a lot of lobbyists worried. That’s good, right? There’s too much influence peddling going on and for too many years. It’s out of control, but here comes Donald Trump!

Thank God it appears that Trump is going to be calling out a lot of people in Congress and Senate for their reckless, sloppy and corrupt activities. It’s so good to see this happening and finally after so many years of neglect we have a watchdog for the people in the White House.

Why the democrats are not supporting this man if beyond my ability to comprehend.

    (No longer a democrat)

Balderama, we’re honored to have you join us here at PS. We’ve been fighting the fight to downsize and clean up DC for many years and your voice is most assuredly welcome.

  2. No Longer Deplorable J Soden says:

When you’re putting in a bid to provide an item or service to goofernment, you have to realistically look at what it’s going to cost you, and what your profit may be. Those that can calculate accurately and win the bid have to stand by the numbers – at least when working for the State of Taxifornia.
But with the Feds, cost “overruns” are routinely approved with no real oversight or question since it’s the taxpayer’s $$ and not the bureaucrat’s that is doing the approval.
Hopefully, TheDonald will change THAT way DC does business as well!

  3. Peggy says:

And then we have this massive disclosed waste of taxpayer’s money. We need zero based accounts for every dept’s budget and stop this, “use it or lose it” out of control spending.

Pentagon buries evidence of $125 billion in bureaucratic waste:
“The Pentagon has buried an internal study that exposed $125 billion in administrative waste in its business operations amid fears Congress would use the findings as an excuse to slash the defense budget, according to interviews and confidential memos obtained by The Washington Post.
Pentagon leaders had requested the study to help make their enormous back-office bureaucracy more efficient and reinvest any savings in combat power. But after the project documented far more wasteful spending than expected, senior defense officials moved swiftly to kill it by discrediting and suppressing the results.
The report, issued in January 2015, identified “a clear path” for the Defense Department to save $125 billion over five years. The plan would not have required layoffs of civil servants or reductions in military personnel. Instead, it would have streamlined the bureaucracy through attrition and early retirements, curtailed high-priced contractors and made better use of information technology.”

Peggy I’m sure they could find such waste in EVERY department of government and I’m thrilled to find that Trumps people will focus on savings in this area as part of his economic and fiscal policy. There are career employees that just need to go (Lois Lerner types in particular). Trump says he will encourage downsizing through attrition as well.

I may not like everything trump does but I’m cautiously optimistic that he will be able to the people a lot of money and at the same time get a lot done…these are exciting times.

      • Peggy says:

I am cautiously optimistic about Trump and how we will lead our country out of the major messes Obama created. Everything from our collapsing economy to ISIS’s move to terrorize and take over the world now have to be dealt with.

Time will tell if Trump is up to the task. I for one will give him a chance to prove himself, instead of condemning him as a failure before he’s even been sworn into office.

Time magazine reluctantly awarded him man/person of the
year, and attempted to blame him for the mess he inherited with this statement, “President of the Divided States of America.” The blame is Obama’s, not Trump’s. But, with the media’s coverage Obama will never be held responsible.

I watched 60 Minutes on Sunday and learned about a man named Higgins who was hired to turn the dying economy in a Mississippi area called the Golden Triangle around. He’s been so successful his phone has been ringing off of the hook with leaders of other communities soliciting his help.

Positive thoughts for our country replace my cautionary ones when I think of Trump and Higgins teaming up together.

Here are a couple of articles about Higgins.

        From local news.

“GOLDEN TRIANGLE, Miss. (Press Release) — Lowndes County is now home to a third Tennessee Valley Authority Certified Megasite. An invitation-only program, the Certified Megasite Program features a rigorous 9-month process conducted by McCallum-Sweeney, a national leader in site selection.

“The Infinity Megasite is an important economic development partnership between TVA and the communities of Mississippi. By serving as a catalyst for creating and retaining great jobs and investments, this site epitomizes TVA’s mission for making life better for the people we serve,” said TVA President and CEO, Bill Johnson.

The Infinity Megasite is located west of the Golden Triangle Regional Airport. It is part of the Golden Triangle Industrial Aerospace Park, which also serves as home to the certified Lowndes County and Crossroads Megasites.

There are currently nine certified megasites in TVA’s 80,000 square miles of territory. Lowndes County is home to three. Perhaps most impressive, the Infinity Megasite is 100 percent owned by the community.

“Not all sites are created equal and this one is Mississippi’s best in class,” said Joe Max Higgins, Jr., CEO of the Golden Triangle Development LINK. “Megasites have a short shelf life of potential success so we need to act quickly with our partners to identify clients and land a deal.”

  4. Dewster says:

Persuading Carrier to remain in the US ?????

Not exactly my friend you are buying the bull.

ABC News confirmed that while 800 jobs at the Carrier plant in Indianapolis would remain, another 600 from the same plant will still be headed to Mexico.

And as for the other 300 white collar jobs, that Trump supposedly “saved,” Carrier never had any plans on moving those jobs to Mexico. They are the corporate jobs.

Pence had been in negotiations with Carrier well before Trump probably ever heard of the company. Pence had the authority to guarantee 7 million dollars in tax incentives to the Career corporation in exchange for keeping those jobs stateside.

Pence bought a few hundred jobs back. Not Trump.

Trump is doing what he always does blab and take credit.

Those are the same type of incentives Trump was against during his campaign. At one rally Trump called the idea of giving companies tax deals and loans, “crazy.”

    And it is. CRAZY

They are coming after Social Security and Medicare and that is the fight.

I hate these parties but I will fight with the Dems on those issues

    https://www.dpcc.senate.gov/?p=issue&id=616

Stop buying the Bull. The man has done nothing but blab and tweet so far.

There is no defined cost on Air Force one’s new planes as the Spec required have not been clearly defined,

Next we will be paying to put protections in a plane owned by Trump? ????

    That would be insane!

    • Tina says:

The ‘bull” I’m not buying is yours, Dewey.

Since you don’t know what fascism is it’s not surprising that you don’t know the difference between offering tax incentives and giving piles of money to a near bankrupt company that disappears within months (with no accounting for the money)…Cash down a rat hole and, I suspect at least partially, into DNC pockets.

Trump is right on the proposed money for those planes, even considering new technology.

It’s time for companies like Boeing, as with DC, to grow leaner and meaner and learn to deliver the best product at the best possible price instead of taking advantage of the taxpayers! As it turns out executives at Boeing are willing to discuss the issue.

We all need to realize that everything is a negotiation in Trumps world. His comments weren’t just putting Boeing on notice…his comments put any company or country that intends to do business with the United States on notice. The message? We will not be used and abused. That kind of leadership will lead to more honest dealing and savings for the people.

  5. Libby says:

So, how will putting a lot of machinists out of work grow the nation’s economy?

Ya know, it’s not just a plane … it’s a flying nuclear command post. Now, four B does strike me as a little high … but we all know that’s from the higher ups taking a particularly large cut … what strikes me most is Trump’s ignorance of all this.

  6. Gilbert says:

Of course, Trump lied about how many jobs he saved and is now bashing the union leader who pointed that out on Twitter. The union leader is now receiving death threats.

If Obama targeted private citizens with the frequency and volume Trump does you would have had his head. This is so unprofessional and unpresidential. Obama was bashed for holding a coffee cup while saluting a soldier, but these constant personal vendettas are OK?

I also seem to remember conservatives saying presidents shouldn’t pick winners and losers. At least Palin had the decency to call the Carrier deal what it is: socialism. Of all the conservatives I thought would stick to their values and call Trump on his betrayal of everything conservatives have stood for, I didn’t expect it to be her. But good for her.
