College Course Suggests “Whiteness” is a “Problem”

Posted by Tina

There’s a new approach on campus to the race thing. New courses are being offered at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Colorado that assert whiteness is a problem. it seems to me it’s incredibly bigoted.

The Wisconsin African studies department features a course described as follows:

Have you ever wondered what it really means to be white? If you’re like most people, the answer is probably “no.” But here is your chance! In Frantz Fanon’s famous White Skin Black Mask (1952), his chapter “Look, a Negro!” interrogated the meaning and experience of coming to know oneself as Black under the constant scrutiny of the white gaze. It is an experience concomitant with W.E.B. Du Bois’s observation that under systemic racism, even well-meaning whites are constantly asking, in one way or another, “what is it like to be a problem?” But, Like Richard Wright’s quote above, philosopher George Yancy’s book, Look, a White! (2010), turns the question around, and rightly returns “the problem of whiteness” to white people. After all, since white supremacy was created by white people, is it not white folks who have the greatest responsibility to eradicate it? Our class begins here. We will come together with our socially ascribed identities of Black, white, mixed and other and, with the problem properly in its place we will ask ourselves and our allies, what are we going to do with it?

Critical Whiteness Studies aims to understand how whiteness is socially constructed and experienced in order to help dismantle white supremacy. Our class will break away from the standard US-centric frame, and consider how whiteness is constructed globally, with particular attention to paradigmatic cases like South Africa. Whereas disciplines such as Latino/a, African, and Asian American studies focus on race as experienced by non-whites, whiteness studies considers how race is experienced by white people. It explores how they consciously and unconsciously perpetuate institutional racism and how this not only devastates communities of color but also perpetuates the oppression of most white folks along the lines of class and gender. In this class, we will ask what an ethical white identity entails, what it means to be #woke, and consider the journal Race Traitor’s motto, “treason to whiteness is loyalty to humanity.” (emphasis mine)

Is white supremacy a real thing? Is it just something all people experience or is it something used by some as an activist crutch or hammer? If it is a real thing is it necessarily bad or negative? Or is it possible that it’s just what has happened. If it’s about perceived power…white power…is there nothing redeeming about how that power has been used? If the white race has been “supreme” what caused it? What was in them that was not in people of other races? We are all human beings…why didn’t people with other skin tones develop along similar lines? It seems to me the answer to that question would be much more interesting and valuable. It is a mystery, is it not?

In my opinion the entire notion that whiteness is a problem worldwide is absurd and deeply offensive. Perpetuating the pathology of victimhood will not make life more rewarding or satisfying for anyone. It certainly won’t move anyone’s experience toward feeling more powerful or significant. It absolutely will not act like a magic bullet to anyone who imagines there’s a secret alignment among white people dedicated to oppressing others.

Do people of color who follow this stuff seriously know that whites also suffer from feelings of insecurity, worthlessness, and helplessness. Do they know that whites are just as likely to feel like they don’t belong? Or are they so self-absorbed, so race obsessed and group oriented, that they have ceased relating in the world as a human being?

In my life experience the goal has been to create conditions in which people learned to relate as human beings. It’s time to expose the devils behind the movement of perpetual agitation based in race…those who create division, hatred, anger and strife. This is nuts!

    Jeeze

WHy are you so absorbed by race?

    Propaganda Re-posted

I am surprised you were not defending Dylan Roof.

Does Racism exist? LOL All one has to do is look at Trump Rally Videos.

Or just go to the The Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC) the modern reincarnation of the old White Citizens Councils, which were formed in the 1950s and 1960s to battle school desegregation in the South. Created in 1985 from the mailing lists of its predecessor organization, the CCC has evolved into a crudely white supremacist group.

Or shall we watch Richard Spencer’s Videos?

So while you sit in a small town is CA you are suggesting People of color just misunderstand all the poor whites as they spew hate and racial code words? LOL

    Epic Fail! Propaganda

Next post how Cons do not discriminate against Muslims? LOL

      Idiot comment requiring no response.

I find it interesting that those who assert racism at the drop of a hat, Dewey and Libby here, are absolutely unable to discuss this as a real issue. They will not engage in a discussion. Are they afraid they will say something that THEY would label as racist? Or is it that they cannot let go of that hammer and treat people as human beings rather than as groups of races or tribes?

  2. No Longer Deplorable J Soden says:

Smells a lot like the Left railing against something they can’t control – the color of ones skin.
Sorta like railing against an election they LOST!

  3. Libby says:

“If the white race has been “supreme” what caused it? What was in them that was not in people of other races? We are all human beings…why didn’t people with other skin tones develop along similar lines?”

But I am not a racist … oh, no.

Jack … you are … big time.

    Did you highlight this?

“… consciously and unconsciously perpetuate institutional racism and how this not only devastates communities of color but also perpetuates the oppression of most white folks along the lines of class and gender. ”

… because you object to it? You shouldn’t. It’s true, and describes the Trump voter to a “T”.

    • Tina says:

Clearly Libby the article is posted by “Tina”…are you blind?

Explain yourself. Tell me how it describes a Trump voter. What is it you see that makes you believe this insanity?

And answer the question IF you dare. How is it that the white race became what you idiots are calling “supreme?” What magic did they possess? What special gene or ability? How did this happen? Do you think whites are just heartless and ruthless? Does it matter that dark skinned people held slaves and sold others into slavery? Does it matter that tribes have been overrunning tribes for centuries or is it only criminal and evil when whites do it? Come on Libby, engage in discussion. I’m asking legitimate questions given the severity of the accusation.

Really Libby, what possible good can come from all of this phony crap?

    • Pie Guevara says:

Re Lippy’s complaints and (again!) her vile knee jerk slur mongering idiotically calling Jack (Tina) a racist —

Clearly, according to this professor’s course description, all whites are consciously or unconsciously racists. Get that, eh Lippy? Get that?

You are an evil and mindless fool, Lippy. And so is Dopey.

Wish to plant the following image in Lippy’s head. Please note that I am neither threatening nor advocating violence against Lippy, I only seek to plant an image in her mind. I am sick and tired of left wing creeps like Lippy slurring Post Scripts and forum participants as a racist.

This specious and horrid slur is highly offensive and is intended to be. Lippy is an evil and horrid person. This is the image I wish to plant in her head every time she calls Post Scripts and/or participants in this forum racists —

A baseball bat smashing your head, Lippy.

  4. Peggy says:

Every time I hear this “white privileged/supremacy ” I think of the dirt poor whites who live in the back hills of Tennessee. I seriously doubt they feel like they’re living the life of luxury with their dirt floors and outhouses.

I wonder how the whites who, “live on the other side of the tracks” and are called “white trailer park trash” feel about being a member of the privileged class?

I too wonder how they felt when a middle class black got accepted into the college they were denied entrance to or the job they didn’t get because of the color of their skin?

If my memory is correct, the Barbary pirates were black Muslim who stole both whites from Europe and blacks from Africa. More blacks were taken out of Africa because their own people sold them into slavery making the quantity of the black race higher and on the path to being called a minority, because of their station in life. (Reminder the first American slave owner was a black man.) The table could have easily been turned if the situation was reversed.

America was founded on the belief of equal opportunity not outcome.

  5. Pie Guevara says:

Interesting. Post Scripts makes note of a left wing racist’s class titled ‘The Problem of Whiteness’ and the two left wing lunatics who frequent this forum call Post Scripts propagandists and racists.

Does anything else need be said? The Dewster and Libby are paradigms of the ****wit left, bless their little hearts.

  6. Pie Guevara says:

Just imagine the Dopey and Lippy response if there was course offered at the same college titled ‘The Problem of Blackness’.

  7. Libby says:

Pardon … but it is usually Jack who comes out with this sort of thing.

Peggy: “I wonder how the whites who, “live on the other side of the tracks” and are called “white trailer park trash” feel about being a member of the privileged class?”

    Peggy, read this again:

“… they consciously and unconsciously perpetuate institutional racism and how this not only devastates communities of color but also perpetuates the oppression of most white folks along the lines of class and gender.”

The trailer trash ARE the class oppressed by “whiteness”. This they can cling to, while the powers ream their hineys, economically speaking. This is what Nixon, Reagan, the Bushes, and Trump used to persuade them to vote against their own interests. I’ll be danged if I understand why this concept is so difficult to grasp.

  8. Tina says:

“they consciously and unconsciously perpetuate institutional racism…”

If any group has perpetuated racism and strife it is the race obsessed radical left! The leaders do it intentionally…Barack Obama is a pro.

” This is what Nixon, Reagan, the Bushes, and Trump used to persuade them to vote against their own interests…”

Ahem…they have been living under conditions akin to the Great Depression you twit. A lot of them watched as their government destroyed their jobs…on purpose!!! They watched as opportunity for them disappeared while the rich got richer. All of this after promises of hope and change. What exactly did you offer that was so great in terms of their interests?

Now you’ll pull out the Obamacare card…a plan so devious and expensive the middle class basically lost it’s opportunity for health insurance.

” I’ll be danged if I understand why this concept is so difficult to grasp.”

Easy, your concept is based on lies, deception, and the inevitable bad leftist attitude that you know better.

Instead you should admit your failure to lift the average American by offering what this author called a promise of “hospice care”…

Progressives believe in “progressively” expanding the size, power, and reach of government. And, Obama has done more to further the progressive cause of anyone since FDR. So, yes, in that sense, it is completely authentic for Hillary to be promising “more Obama” if she wins.

With respect to the economy, both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are offering what amounts to “hospice care.” Their “tax the rich” redistributionist proposals are not intended to restore strong growth. They are designed to make the middle class more comfortable in the face of economic stagnation. “Hey, you may be unemployed after you graduate, but at least college was free!”

Democrats don’t get that it is the people (free people) that made America strong!

Grasp this…less than 2% growth lifts only the yachts!

  9. Pie Guevara says:

Re Tina “they consciously and unconsciously perpetuate institutional racism…”

If any group has perpetuated racism and strife it is the race obsessed radical left! The leaders do it intentionally…Barack Obama is a pro.

    Ditto.

    UPDATE

Don’t have time for an article but thought I should at least post this update:

MADISON, Wi. (CNN) — The University of Wisconsin-Madison is offering a course next semester called “The Problem of Whiteness,” and it’s not sitting well with a Republican legislator.
Wisconsin Rep. Dave Murphy, who is also the chairman of the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities, has asked the university to cancel the course, saying it prompts racial division.

“I am extremely concerned that UW-Madison finds it appropriate to teach a course called, ‘The Problem of Whiteness,’ with the premise that white people are racist,” Murphy said in a statement this week. He even threatened to pull funding for the state university.

“If UW-Madison stands with this professor, I don’t know how the university can expect the taxpayers to stand with UW-Madison,” he wrote.

The university defended its curriculum and said it takes pride in offering a variety of courses.

“We believe this course, which is one of thousands offered at our university, will benefit students who are interested in developing a deeper understanding of race issues. The course is a challenge and response to racism of all kinds,” read the university statement.

Murphy also questioned the university’s decision to have Sajnani teach the course.

“Even more troubling, the course is taught by a self-described ‘international radical’ professor whose views are a slap in the face to the taxpayers who are expected to pay for this garbage,” said Murphy.

In his statement, he referred to Sajnani’s controversial tweets on topics such as police brutality and the Ku Klux Klan.

Murphy was joined in his criticism by Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, who wrote on Twitter, “This is racism against white people. ALL racism is wrong.”

The professor is standing by his class and continues to share messages of support on his Twitter page.

“Good day haters! Keep fueling me with your Tomfoolery. The angrier whites are about interrogating their identity the greater is the need for it,” he stated on Twitter. “My only complaint about this course is that I already graduated from the UW and can’t take it,” one person posted.

Good to see there are people pointing out the nasty racist nature of this course as well as the nasty racist attitude of the professor. As the black freedom fighters of the sixties always said this stuff has to be taught.

Side note: Spent about six hours in the infusion center today…haven’t heard so may hearty shouts of Merry Christmas in a long time. Lots of trees and decorations too…very festive!
