Dictatorship Writ Large in California Healthcare Proposal

Thanks go to Peggy for the heads-up on this news from Katy Murphy at The Mercury News out of San Jose:

SACRAMENTO — In a surprise move made in response to President Donald Trump’s push to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, two California lawmakers Friday introduced legislation to replace private medical insurance with a government health care system covering all 38 million Californians — including its undocumented residents.

“We’ve reached this pivotal moment and I thought to myself: ‘Look, now more than ever is the time to talk about universal health care,'” one of Senate Bill 562’s authors, Sen. Ricardo Lara, D-Bell Gardens, said in an interview Friday.

The Healthy California Act, co-authored by Sen. Toni Atkins, D-San Diego, was submitted just before the deadline for new legislation. It doesn’t yet offer many specifics other than the lawmakers’ intent: to create a so-called single-payer system that would pay for coverage for everyone.

If anything can test the state of our state a forced single payer healthcare insurance plan will. Even the very progressive Vermont rejected such a plan recently. Hey Dewey…how do you defend such tyranny when supposedly you hate fascism?

  1. Bryan H. says:

Are you saying every country with single payer healthcare is a dictatorship?

I had no idea Trudeau, May, Merkel and every other one of our allied world leaders was a dictator! What are we doing allying ourselves with so many dictators? We should immediately cut all ties to any dictatorship that employs single payer healthcare. That leaves…who, exactly?

    • Tina says:

“Are you saying every country with single payer healthcare is a dictatorship?”

      No.

I am saying it’s the stuff of dictatorships…see Cuba, Venezuela, China…government control dictates…get it?

Probably not. Too many glowing thoughts of perfection in your head and not enough cold hard reality.

      • Bryan H. says:

Cuba, Venezuela, China…England, Sweden, Canada…all of these countries have single payer healthcare, so singling that out as something sinister and dictatorial makes no sense. It’s like saying we should outlaw dogs because Hitler loved his own.

      • Libby says:

Folk in the minority are always being “dictated” to. It’s a bummer, but you just have to except the fact that most of the citizenry is not so mean-minded as to deny their fellows access to healthcare.

        • Tina says:

Nobody in America has been denied access to healthcare.

You are prisoners of the “glowing thoughts of perfection in your head” and sorely lacking in cold hard reality.”

Repeat: Nobody in America has been denied access to healthcare. It does not happen!

You numbskulls repeat it without thinking. But it’s just a lie designed for one purpose, to fool people into thinking we have to do universal healthcare or people will die!

You guys always rely on scare tactics and drama to sell pigs in a poke.

All of the countries named by Chris have problems in their healthcare systems, not the least of which are long wait times for vital services and unsustainable budgets. Universal healthcare is not perfection no matter how many times you repeat it.

Those countries have been able to fake it for many years only because America picked up the tab for their self defense and have taken in their patients who couldn’t get certain services or couldn’t wait for services.

If America goes down that road there will be no country to pick up the overflow tab and every countries healthcare (and economy) will look more and more like Venezuela and less like what you imagine is healthcare nirvana in Sweden.

What is it about the left that they cannot address adult concerns like how will we sustain it? What comes to mind is they’ve been convinced by another lie pushed by the party of bog government control: there’s plenty of money to be taken from the rich. THEFT of private property is their answer. Not voluntary giving that we see in organizations like the Shriner’s Hospitals or St. Jude’s but through taxation…some advocating 70% or higher, others advocating high taxation on investments. Both are JOB KILLERS!

Lefties love their nice ideas but they don’t have the smarts to see how their desires don’t match up with practical realities. They’re like children who’ve never provided for themselves and so don’t have a clue about how things get financed.

Quit lying. What you want is permanent government control by the party that’s no longer American but an arm of the Marxists and Fascist based systems of Europe that they admire.

          • Libby says:

“Nobody in America has been denied access to healthcare.”

This is a lie … told by mean-minded people to themselves to absolve themselves of their responsibility as citizens … when this attitude is, in fact, the very last word in profligacy.

Try to grasp this. People with no insurance/access don’t go to the doctor … until they hit the emergency room with a gangrenous diabetic ulcer and a limb has to come off. Providing regular counseling to diabetics is much cheaper than dealing with this (and it does get dealt with), but YOU won’t have it.

      • dewster says:

Tina are you already on the gov healthcare? LOL please do not use it.

Sorry you are way out in LaLa land and hypocrisy. We are tired of wall street healthcare for profits while we pay for seniors who vote against us. I will pay taxes for healthcare not war.

        Stop using your medicare please

        • Tina says:

Right…you prefer a government that profits and delivers poor service…a monopoly that wastes taxpayer money and racks up trillions in debt!

We’ve been forced into these systems that have made it possible for government to spend more money while it puts future generations in debt up to their ears and paying into a system that was designed so poorly it’s unsustainable.

          Stooopid!

  2. J. Soden says:

Taxifornia is gonna into the healthcare business??? Hahahahahahahahaha! They can’t even manage to fix roads – or dam spillways!
Here’s a question for those Demwits in the Legislature: How are ya gonna PAY for it ’cause I doubt that you’ll be getting any Federal $$ to play with . . . .?

    • Tina says:

      No kidding, J.

How will old Jerry pay for it? He’s already going to be on his knees begging infrastructure aid.

What a stupidly run state! As a long time Californian it makes me sad to see this beautiful state going down the tubes.

    • dewster says:

Same way as we pay now, try explaining single Payer.

Instead of repeating TV Talking points from your favorite PR Firm get specific.

The USA is not the greatest country in the world. We are a banana republic in the making

All conservatives on medicare please stop using it and go pay for that wall street rip off insurance crap. profits are first

      Excellent.

    • Tina says:

And all of the pea brained lefties in this state imagine it can all be taken care of without consequences they won’t like.

      • dewster says:

So folks when have you lived near the border? Ahum… I still have my border patrol shirt…Ahummmm

FACT = They Use TUNNELS .. So crowdfund your useless vanity wall and leave our taxes for infrastructure

        • Post Scripts says:

Dewey, name one perfect thing to secure the border? We know it’s not a wall, a cyclone fence, barbed wire, check points, police on patrol, cameras or aircraft, so do we give up and open the border? No. Obviously, we have to protect our borders because without borders we are not a sovereign nation. We have a right, like any other sovereign nation, including Mexico, to control our borders to the best of our ability. We know that a 10 ft. wall can be breached with a 12 ft. ladder. We are not idiots Dewey, we get it. But, that’s why we have many ways to slow illegal border crossings down. We are not looking for perfection, just a way to keep the number of illegals down to a manageable number. Right now, it’s not manageable…it’s close to being out of control and that won’t work for most of us.

          • Bryan H. says:

“We are not looking for perfection, just a way to keep the number of illegals down to a manageable number. Right now, it’s not manageable…”

Where do you get these silly ideas? Immigration is at a net zero right now and has been for years.

          • Libby says:

Brian, we can’t be bothering these people with the fact of the matter. I also have pointed out to them that illegal immigration has been static since the crash … but they still have to look at these creatures in the checkout line at the WalMart … and that is all that matters.

  4. Pie Guevara says:

Is this trend to bring Dewey up in Post Scripts articles going to become a feature? The guy is an unhinged, incoherent, ignorant, radical, ranting, anti-capitalism, anti-conservative, left-wing lunatic cretin. Why give LOL Boy the attention he craves?

And so is Giggle Girl Libby, for that matter.

  5. Tina says:

In response to Libby: ” Providing regular counseling to diabetics is much cheaper than dealing with this (and it does get dealt with)…”

Badly…very badly. Under your precious programs the government rules don’t allow doctors to make decisions based on the individuals current need but by a one size fits all set of regulations that demand one procedure or another BEFORE what needs to eb done is actually done. This leads to treatable bed sores developeing into tunneling monsters that require surgery.

And there’s very little evidence to show that someone who refuses to listen to his doctors advice…or the advice he receives at the emergency room…will suddenly become the model patient.

Also…Obamacare has not changed the emergency room, as promised. People still cram the ER with problems that should eb treated by a regular doctor.

Doctors also HATE government programs because they don;t pay well enough to cover costs!

You think you’re being kind when in fact you are being cruel…and stupid!

  6. Tina says:

In response to Bryan and Libby, “…illegal immigration has been static since the crash.”

    Funny how they lecture.

June 2016, NewsMax, “Census Report: Illegal Immigration Up 57 Percent in 2 Years”:

Illegal immigration has risen 57 percent in less than two years. The number of illegal immigrants rose to at least 550,000 in 2014 and 2015, an increase from 350,000 in 2012 and 2013, according to an analysis from the Center for Immigration Studies.

Analyst Steven A. Camarota wrote in the Center’s report that all immigration, legal and illegal combined, is on the rise with 3.1 million new immigrants, a 39 percent increase in 2014 and 2015. …

… The last time immigration approached the 3.1 million mark was in 2000 and 2001, according to the report. Most of the charts in the analysis apparently point to immigration being on a steady rise.
Another analysis indicated that more than 61 million immigrants and their American-born children under 18 now live in the U.S. In 1970 that number was 13.5 million.

The numbers raise “profound questions” about immigration’s effect on education, labor, and infrastructure.

But these things are adult concerns and much too difficult for the progressive left to comprehend, much less discuss…thus they scream racist, call us liars, and hide behind contempt and arrogance!

October 2016, NewsMax, “Homeland Security Records 23 Percent Rise in Illegal Immigration”:

Over 400,000 illegal immigrants were caught in the southwest border of the United States in fiscal 2016, an almost 23 percent rise over the previous year, according to the recent Homeland Security numbers released Monday, The Washington Times reports.

The officials also noted that the surge in arrests, which increased from 331,000 from last year, pointed towards an unrecorded rise in the number that had already sneaked in.

There has been a heavy inflow — a record high of 77,674 — in the number of illegal immigrants traveling as families or those escaping difficult situations conditions in Central America. The number of unaccompanied minors too rose to nearly 60,000, the officials said.

“Unaccompanied children and families have presented new challenges in our immigration system,” Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said in a statement.

You two really should look into alternative news sources. Those fake news activists are making you look ridiculous!

    • Libby says:

If Newsmax were such a thing, a news source, we would consider it. Newsmax is a flagrantly right-wing propaganda mill. They phase things so as to get you all excited, but if 400,000 were turned back at the border, then the flow of illegals has not risen, has it?

What’s more, if you give the matter just the tiniest bit of thought, say 400,000 divided by 365, you know what you get? 1,095 per day. 45 people turned back, every hour of every day. One every minute and a quarter. I think it highly unlikely.

When are you going to start giving these things … just the tiniest bit of thought?

      • Bryan H. says:

The “alternative news sources” give her all the “alternative facts” she needs, Libby.

      • Tina says:

No Libby, it’s NewsMax citing Homeland Security Records and a Census report.

LA Times, not a right wing source, “High deportation figures are misleading”

Immigration activists have sharply criticized President Obama for a rising volume of deportations, labeling him the “deporter in chief” and staging large protests that have harmed his standing with some Latinos, a key group of voters for Democrats.

But the portrait of a steadily increasing number of deportations rests on statistics that conceal almost as much as they disclose. A closer examination shows that immigrants living illegally in most of the continental U.S. are less likely to be deported today than before Obama came to office, according to immigration data.

Expulsions of people who are settled and working in the United States have fallen steadily since his first year in office, and are down more than 40% since 2009.

On the other side of the ledger, the number of people deported at or near the border has gone up — primarily as a result of changing who gets counted in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency’s deportation statistics.

The vast majority of those border crossers would not have been treated as formal deportations under most previous administrations. If all removals were tallied, the total sent back to Mexico each year would have been far higher under those previous administrations than it is now.

        The smoke and mirrors plan.

        NumbersUSA:

The Washington Post Reveals the Fraud

In December 2010, the Washington Post revealed that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had included more than 19,000 illegal immigrants who had exited the country in the previous fiscal year in its deportation statistics for the current (2010) fiscal year.
On February 22, 2010, ICE Detention and Removal Operations issued a memo stating that, despite record deportations of criminals, the overall number of removals was down.
According to the memo, while ICE was on pace to achieve “the Agency goal of 150,000 criminal alien removals” for the year ending September 30th, total deportations were set to barely top 310,000, “well under the Agency’s goal of 400,000” and nearly 20 percent below the 2009 total of 387,000.
The memo also explained how ICE would inflate the number: increasing detention space to hold more illegal immigrants while they await deportation proceedings; sweeping prisons and jails to find more candidates for deportation and offering early release for those willing to go quickly; and a surge in efforts to catch illegal immigrants who lied on immigration or visa applications or reentered the U.S. after being deported. (continues)

When are YOU going to give these things the tiniest bit of scrutiny? Until you do, your “thinking” is as worthless as your nasty, unfounded slurs.

        • Libby says:

Tina’s Answer: No, I am not going to give these things just the tiniest bit of thought.

Tina, the math is what it is. There is no redeeming the stat.

          • Tina says:

Yeah…and pigs are flying right along with your buddies on brooms.

The math was adjusted to make your bummer man look good on paper.

The border patrol knows better. The back log in the courts indicates otherwise.

But what’s the point…you have no interest in living in a nation of laws and so you subvert them at every opportunity.

    • Bryan H. says:

“…according to an analysis from the Center for Immigration Studies.”

Wanna try that again? This time, don’t use numbers provided by a group that was literally founded by a white supremacist.

“You two really should look into alternative news sources. Those fake news activists are making you look ridiculous!”

By alternative, you mean conservative. And you’re the one who looks ridiculous when you act like any study by the CIS has credibility or persuasive power.

      • Tina says:

Go pound sand hall monitor. My source was NewsMax, citing Homeland Security Records and a Census report.

Yes I mean conservative news outlets…what else? We all know what the old media have to sell. Alternative media exists because the old media became a biased arm of the radical left.

You dismiss the CIS because they don’t agree with you, the very definition of a closed, biased mind.

        • Bryan H. says:

“My source was NewsMax, citing Homeland Security Records and a Census report.”

That was your source for the claim that deportations had not actually risen. But that’s not what I was talking about. I said illegal immigration has not risen. Your only source to dispute that claim was Newsmax citing CIS. I don’t dismiss them because I disagree with them, I dismiss them because they were founded by a white supremacist, and they’ve been caught pushing misleading figures before.

California: The Physical Collapse Of A Social State:

“Welcome to California.  It is a state of a perfect set of laws – at least in the minds of those wedded to the legislative pursuit of social justice.  Under the one-party Democrat rules, spending on fairness tops $100 billion every year. Meanwhile, the basic infrastructure of the state, so necessary for the economy long and short term, is collapsing.

The California legislature has been busy making the news these days.  They are determined to fight President Trump tooth and nail – and they are putting the taxpayers’ money where the legislature’s mouth is.

California Democrat after Democrat has decried President Trump. The day after the election, a “Joint Statement from California Legislative Leaders on Result of Presidential Election,” issued in part by California Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (formerly Kevin Leon), stated:”
