Bribery: How Brown Got His Gas Tax Vehicle Registration Hikes

Posted by Tina

Well this little item in the Los Angeles Times should surprised exactly no one. Bribery allowed the Governor to pass the gas and registration tax hikes:

Brown and legislative dealers promised nearly $1 billion for the pet projects of lawmakers who had been sitting on the fence before they were persuaded to vote for the bill.

The funding “arrangements,” as Brown called them, helped the governor and legislators break a two-year Sacramento stalemate on transportation funding. …

… Republican leaders said the deals were unseemly and set a bad precedent.

“Democrats just gave us the largest gas tax increase in state history — a deal so bad they needed $1 billion in pork to buy the votes to pass it,” said Assembly Republican leader Chad Mayes of Yucca Valley. “California deserves better.”

Here’s how it went down.

Sen. Anthony Cannella, a Republican sold his soul along with Assemblyman Adam Gray (D-Merced) to the tune of a $500 million budget allocation. Gray gets to build a parkway for the UC merced campus. Cannella gets $400 for an extension of the Altamont Corridor Express (BART), a commuter rail line between the Bay Area and Central Valley.

Riverside County, home to Sen. Richard Roth, Democrat, gets $427 million for transportation projects

Chino Senator Connie Leyva sold her vote for air quality control. She wants cash to do something about trucks that serve warehouses in her area. She gets $50 million from the state Air Resources Board …

Brown was asked about the side deals. His response was typically smarmy;

“You could get a train going to the Central Valley? Does anyone want trains more than me? No,” Brown said. “You could get projects and parks in some of the poorest neighborhoods in California? Hallelujah!”

I see. This money will not be spent for the greater good in California. It will instead flow to pet projects in Democrat districts, districts that just went through years of drought, districts with severe water shortage problems in drought years, and yet not a single mention of the need to repair the state’s failing dams or the dire need to address water storage. Local trains, parks, and localized pollution control, all county or city concerns, were the price tag to significantly raise our taxes. This is money that will be taken from every citizens pocket in California. It will effect those of us who drive vehicles personally and it will effect anyone who buys products and services personally. Tax and spend liberals never think about managing our money efficiently and well; they just demand and get, by hook and by crook, more of our hard earned money.

In the last eight years a lot has been asked of the people, in particular the poor and middle classes. Continuing lousy economy and job opportunity, low pay, higher prices and higher taxes. Water problems and failing dams. We’re also up to our ears in slime politics. When will the people of California finally revolt and throw the b’tards out?

That rumbling sound is getting louder. Not an earthquake – it’s the sound of moving vans heading outta state with both businesses and those folks who pay taxes.

Taxifornia is killing the goose that laid the golden eggs.

And those who sell themselves for $$ – or for taxpayer $$ – are known as prostitutes. In this case, political prostitutes!

  2. Libby says:

Jack, this is boring. You, who insist on a lifestyle requiring a personal vehicle to personally drive around, WILL, personally, pay to clean up the mess you make. This has been the California World Order for many, many years now … and it’s why you can still see some gorgeous sunsets across the valley floor.

However, I know some places in the hinterland, where you can spend your life breathing rail diesel and never see further than a mile in any direction … but no gas tax! You could take J’s advice and pack up.

Or, you could quit all this “complaining by numbers.” Go paint something.

Geez Libby when will you at least hold these wasteful people responsible?

Californians HAVE paid…and paid and paid and paid. We HAVE clean water and air because we have paid.

What we DO NOT have is a system of dams and reservoirs sufficient to supply the citizens and farmers in drought years.

What we don’t have is roads, bridges and dams in good repair.

They HAD enough money for those things and chose, willfully chose, to spend the money on more frivolous ventures…including inflated salaries, benefits and bonuses for those who work for the state.

Do you even get that your thoughtless generosity gives them free reign to be irresponsible, wasteful, and generous to themselves? Stooopid…really stooopid not to hold them accountable.

I have been busy painting Libs. You know I didn’t write this article, right?

Tina ,I’ll add one more thing, how much of this “tax on motorist” will even be used for the implied reason, and what portion will go to the” Train to NO Where” which is better question.

California is a mobile car state, and will always be so, World Order , what a crock, not until the George Jetson era of transportation begins .

California is built on suburbs and Metropolitan work districts, which in our life times no form of current transportation can be used effectively , unless you add even more time to getting to work.

Once more the liberal mindset of See what I am doing, or more to the point, forced to do takes precedence over common sense.

And when working people or their industry do finally get fed up enough to leave, (which is happening) then the Lippy’s can start to walk to work (if any is even available), because there will be less and less of tax dollars to support their” World Order”, or better said, lack of perspective to reality.

You do not want to help us fix things yet complain?

Look the Water barons are the real corrupt story…

Took me months to find their names …..

Politics is ran by an Oligarchy

Get the money out and reform elections

“You do not want to help us fix things yet complain?

If you had a brain you would too!

The people have “helped” so much their falling behind personally. Why is a big bloated ineffectual government so attractive to you? Those who govern have absolutely failed the people or our roads, bridges and dams would already be in excellent shape. They have used the money we gave to them for these thing to do other things. That should feel like a big slap in the face to you.

“the Water barons are the real corrupt story”

      NAME THEM!

“Get the money out and reform elections”

I ask and ask but you cannot tell us what your vision of a better system looks like. Are you imagining full confiscation of all wealth? Controlled wages? Leaders like Bernie telling us where and when we will work? The Gulag for anyone who doesn’t conform, perhaps?

Dewy you are the one who complains. You have no ideas or if you do, you sure can’t articulate them. Just how does your utopian dream work?
