Election Montana: Republican Body-Slams Reporter

UPDATE (emphasis mine):

BOZEMAN, Mont. — Republican businessman Greg Gianforte has won Montana’s sole House district in a special election Thursday, keeping a seat in Republican hands despite facing assault charges for allegedly attacking a reporter who’d asked him about the GOP’s health-care bill.

In his victory speech, Gianforte admitted to the attack and apologized for it.

“I shouldn’t have treated that reporter that way,” he told supporters at his rally here.

The people have spoken.

The story coming out of Bozeman, Montana is that Republican candidate for the US House of Representatives, Greg Gianforte, body slammed a *Guardian reporter after a testy confrontation. Gianforte, who claims the reporter was is being charged with misdemeanor assault. A Fox reporter who originally said Gianforte had grabbed the reporter by the neck has now said she may have embellished her account of what happened. Taped evidence includes sounds of a scuffle and the following audio: “I’m sick and tired of you guys. The last guy who came here did the same thing. Get the hell out of here.”

Gianforte’s campaign released the following statement:

The Gianforte campaign issued a statement about an hour after the altercation, saying the two men both fell to the floor while Gianforte attempted to grab Jacobs’ phone that had been “pushed in his face” during an interview with someone else.

“It’s unfortunate that this aggressive behavior from a liberal journalist created this scene at our campaign volunteer BBQ,” said Shane Scanlon, spokesman for the Gianforte campaign.

Gallatin County sheriff’s officers have interviewed witnesses to the event. Gianforte will be in court June 7th.

Assault or violence of any kind is never appropriate. Gianforte will pay the consequences for losing his temper. Whether that includes losing this election will be determined today as voters cast their ballots.

(*Some news reports indicated the reporter was from Reuters.)

This whole incident smells a lot like the one recently where the AP had a leftist activist masquerade as a reporter to get the “dirt” on KellyAnne Conway

Why would a reporter for England’s Guardian get in-your-face with a politician here if not for just causing trouble?

Always thought Frank Sinatra’s treatment of the intrusive press and papparazzi was justified. My sympathies are with candidates that have to put up with this kind of BS.

    • Tina says:

J, it wouldn’t surprise me if this was something at least wished for by the reporter. I think he also may be just another reporter with a sense of entitlement and a bad attitude toward the eeeevil opposition.

My sympathies too are with candidates that have to put up with extremely rude and pushy reporters. After months on the campaign trail it must wear them out. Most of the time it’s Republicans that do have to put up with the politic-paparazzi.

Democrat candidates are asked softball questions delivered with dewey-eyed appreciation. It’s almost enough to make one hurl.

Old blue eyes was not alone in his disdain for reporters. Sean Penn on the phto journalists that stalk celebrities: “I still think photographers should be lashed out at. They should be put in a cage where you can poke them with a stick for a quarter. But not in a hostile way, just for giggles. They really are on the attack against mankind; it’s a disease.”

PJ Media had some info about the race we won’t see in the MSM. Apparently Bernie Sanders campaigned for Gianforte’s rival, Quist, after Quist spurned the DNC. Sanders joked about committting a federal crime to elect Quist.

Gianforte’s campaign said the incident happened when he was giving a separate interview in a private meeting. The Guardian reporter entered the room uninvited and “aggressively shoved a recorder (phone) in Greg’s face and began asking badgering questions. Jacobs was asked to leave. and when he refused Gianforte “tried to grab the phone and Jacobs grabbed his wrist and spun away, pushing them both to the ground.

Those who bully are often surprised when finally they are challenged. It’s gotta be shocking, especially if they’ve been raised “snowflake” when that challenge becomes physical.

Stuff like this should never happen but I’m not at all surprised it has.

  2. Peggy says:

Montana callers into the Rush radio show this morning all said they were going to vote for Gianforte. Their reasons were the reporter was rude and pushy. Montanans have manners, they’re not like New Yorkers.

Their other reasons were based on the two candidates. Gianforte was a big contributor to the community and was a solid conservative. The democrat was an extreme liberal who had not paid his taxes for years and played with a band in a nudist colony that was featured on his campaign flyer.

Also, most voting has been done by mail in ballots, with no option to change.

    • Tina says:

Peggy, Montanans in general do have manners and don’t appreciate a pushy attitude. The exception would be a few cowboy bars, lol. I imagine there might have been a bit of culture shock going on for the young reporter.

Some Democrats think Gianforte should be forced to drop out. Hypocrites! Some of those serving now in congress have done worse. Some Republicans are doing the same…I wish they’d grow a spine. Democrats don’t usually abandon one of their own, unless they think it’s politically expedient.

  3. TruthToPower says:

oh yes Tina a Republican can do no wrong. Those stinky Liberals just need to be throw in labor camps.

Republicans are the only good people

    Thanks Obama!

    It’s all your fault

    • Tina says:

Once again you did not bother to read and comprehend before opening your big blathering pie hole.

      • TruthToPower says:

        Tina

The blathering Pie hole is a person who reads and repeats others opinion rather than listen to the audio and the account of what happened by a Conservative reporter in the room.

Furthermore the audio shows by voice he went into rage after a question he did not want to answer… What could that subject be? A very hot campaign subject?

Well yes! CBO and Trumpcare! How dare that reporter ask that question!

Bully! That is of no concern to that reporter!

So do you forgive the man for his violent actions? He has admitted and apologized. Said sorry to the reporter by name.

As usual to you a Republican can do not wrong

Now if that was a Democrat? Or a Black Dem running for office?

He would be a Thug right? but a conservative gets a badge of honor right?

Be honest You spoke too soon on this

        Spin away ……….have fun!

  4. Peggy says:

Off topic, but this is huge.

The Obama intelligence organizations spied on millions of Americans over a five year period. The FISA court admonished the Obama administration for Fourth Amendment violations and failing to set up an agreed upon controls, which they were required to do years ago.

The Trump administration implemented the requied corrected process, but those in the Obama administration need to be held accountable.

(I posted this in a previous article and do so again since it is receiving very little news coverage and none at all from the liberal network and cable stations. This is a bigger scandal than any of Obama’s past known ones.)

Unsealed FISA Court Order Reveals Warrantless Surveillance by Obama Administration in 2016 :

An unsealed April 26 court ruling from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Court found that the Obama administration had violated “the NSA’s minimization procedures involving queries of data acquired under Section 702 using U.S. person identifiers. The full scope of non-compliant querying practices had not been previously disclosed to the Court.”

Under FISA, the court is supposed to determine whether the minimization procedures—those that are supposed to seal the identities of U.S. persons swept up in foreign surveillance—comply with Fourth Amendment protections against unreasonable searches and seizures.

What the FISA Court is saying in its April 26 ruling is that these bare minimal rules, which do not even require a warrant to unmask a U.S. person, were not being followed. Since all the agents must show is that the information is relevant to foreign intelligence matters, that is saying something. The only explanation is that, in those cases, the searches had no bearing on foreign intelligence gathering.

This appears to indicate American citizens who were merely mentioning the name of a foreign target were being subjected to surveillance and potentially unmasked without warrants.”

Update – The FBI is involved, Comey lied before Congress and data was shared with forbidden parties.

Declassified memos show FBI illegally shared spy data on Americans with private parties:

“The FBI has illegally shared raw intelligence about Americans with unauthorized third parties and violated other constitutional privacy protections, according to newly declassified government documents that undercut the bureau’s public assurances about how carefully it handles warrantless spy data to avoid abuses or leaks.

In his final congressional testimony before he was fired by President Trump this month, then-FBI Director James Comey unequivocally told lawmakers his agency used sensitive espionage data gathered about Americans without a warrant only when it was “lawfully collected, carefully overseen and checked.”
Once-top secret U.S. intelligence community memos reviewed by Circa tell a different story, citing instances of “disregard” for rules, inadequate training and “deficient” oversight and even one case of deliberately sharing spy data with a forbidden party.

For instance, a ruling declassified this month by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA) chronicles nearly 10 pages listing hundreds of violations of the FBI’s privacy-protecting minimization rules that occurred on Comey’s watch.

The behavior the FBI admitted to a FISA judge just last month ranged from illegally sharing raw intelligence with unauthorized third parties to accessing intercepted attorney-client privileged communications without proper oversight the bureau promised was in place years ago.”

    • TruthToPower says:

Yep all the spying is Obama’s fault good thing GW did not right? And Of Course Trump will not right?

has nothing to do with NSA, CIA and all the private contractors, and the corporations and search engines selling everything is awesome right?

Not to mention the FBI drones that hover overhead in certain places with high level equipment that can zoom in on a 30 mile radius!

No Obama did it all so now that he is gone we are all clear right?

Peggy whistleblowers risk everything to tell us about the spying. To blame one bought out President? WAKE UP you do not know half of what goes on.

    More Libbyism…

A mob of students at a Washington state liberal-arts college confronted a professor and demanded his resignation for writing an email questioning the propriety of a race demonstration in which white people were invited to leave campus for a day.

A video of the confrontation at Evergreen State College, recorded by one of the protesters and posted to Facebook on Tuesday, shows biology professor Bret Weinstein attempting to reason with dozens of students who routinely shout him down, curse at him and demand his resignation.

I’m not ignoring this drama. It’s certainly worthy of attention. It also deserves an investigation that is thorough and without media hype and leaks. Until there is something substantial or conclusive to report, from people we can trust, it’s difficult to know what to report.

All of the links being provided are appreciated. This one was particularly interesting.

  7. Peggy says:

Remember this? Funny how democrats will defend members of their own party when they attack a reporter, but want republicans to apologize, withdraw or resign, and according to Pelosi Trump is to blame for setting a bad example.

FLASHBACK: Democratic Congressman Attacked Student Journalist…And Democrats Defended It!:

“While the media provides wall-to-wall coverage of Montana Congressional candidate Greg Gianforte’s alleged assault on a reporter from the Guardian – while Republicans across Congress are being asked to condemn Gianforte – it’s worthwhile to remember that the media never hold Democrats to the same standard.

Way back in June 2010, North Carolina Congressman Bob Etheridge, a seven-term elected Democrat, was asked by a student reporter if he supported the “Obama agenda.” Etheridge promptly attempted to grab the reporter’s cell phone camera, then grab the reporter’s wrist, demanding, “Who are you! Tell me who you are…I have a right to know who you are!” One of the student’s friends, who caught the incident on camera, said, “We’re just here for a project.” When the student in Etheridge’s grip asked to be released, Etheridge instead grabbed him by the neck.

Etheridge would go on to be defeated by Congresswoman Renee Ellmers in a very tight election. But the media never bothered to ask every Democrat in power about Etheridge’s behavior, or whether it ought to be condemned. The assumption was that Etheridge was acting on his own, that he had behaved badly, and that was that. In fact, Democrats rallied to Etheridge’s defense.”

And congrats to the voters in Montana who refused to vote the way the LunaticLeftie presstitutes wanted!
So far, all of those “anti-Trump” elections supposed to get Demwits into office have been just as successful as Obumble’s prezidency was: Zip, Zero, Nada!

    • TruthToPower says:

You are missing the point. The DNC will not support any Progressives they rather a Republican win. You really ought to give your other party some credit.

The DNC did not help in Kansas or MT.

They are not the Liberals they claim them to be. They are a corporation with the same donors and a different big whale than the GOP

  9. TruthToPower says:

So your conclusion on this Tina after hearing the FOX reporter tell the truth on this insane attack?
