Climate Accord: President Trump Withdraws

Posted by Tina

This afternoon President Trump announced that the United States will withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement. Speaking directly to the people from the Rose Garden the president said he was elected to represent the people of “Pittsburgh, not Paris.” His opinion that the accord is a bad deal for American jobs and our economy and called the other nations out for creating a deal that places enourmous burdens on our citizens while letting the worlds biggest polluters off the hook:

Trump complained in the White House’s Rose Garden that major polluters like China are allowed to increase their emissions under the agreement in a way that the US cannot. India is hinging its participation on billions of dollars of foreign aid.

The deal is a ‘massive redistribution of United States wealth to other countries,’ he said.

‘The Paris accord is very unfair, at the highest level, to the United States.

‘This agreement is less about the climate and more about other countries gaining a financial advantage over the United States,’ Trump said.

Trump said he would also end the United States’ participation in the United Nations’ Green Climate Fund.

In a slap at European leaders who’d lobbied him last week, including France’s Emmanuel Macron, Trump said the Paris exit is ‘a reassertion of America’s sovereignty.’

‘Foreign leaders in Europe, Asia and across the world should not have more to say with respect to the United States economy that our own citizens and their elected representatives,’ Trump proclaimed.

Trump told off naysayers in a lengthy explanation of his decision and the effect he expects it to have on the US economy.

‘The Paris Agreement handicaps the United States economy in order to win praise from the very foreign capitals and global activists that have long sought to gain wealth at our country’s expense. They don’t put America first. I do and I always will,’ he said.

Trump also spelled out the consequences for Americans had he engaged our nation in this suicide pact. I’d like to thank President Trump for refusing to agree to a deal that is so destructive, especially since it’s not about climate or science but instead money and power.

Remember the student loan program was taken over by the federal gov’t in 2010 to help fund ObamaCare that charged a higher interest to students and then transferred those funds out where needed. Instead of making higher education more affordable it made it more expensive and lied about it.

As your article says the free market did come into play, but the federal gov’t moved the tipping point closer faster.

      Read this.

Feds redirect billions from student loan program for Obamacare:

“It seems Washington can’t print money fast enough to fund their big government programs.

And it looks like Obamacare is going to be further supported on the backs of the healthiest segment of our population — young Americans.

The Affordable Care Act is set to cost students enrolled in the government’s loan program $8.7 billion in extra interest over the next decade, according to a report published by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
If savings were kept inside the loan program, instead of transferred to Obamacare, as some Republican senators are suggesting, they could allow the Department of Education to lower student interest rates to 5.3 percent from 6.3 percent, according to the CBO.

The nearly $9 billion being used to fund Obamacare is derived from $61 billion the government says it will save by administering student loans in-house.
Late last month former secretary of education and ranking member of the  Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) seized on the diversion of the funds as one solution for lowering student interest rates, which are set to double on Monday.

“The Congressional Budget Office estimates that if we applied that $61 billion savings to student loans, we could have reduced the interest rates to about 5.3 percent and save the average student $2,200 over 10 years,” said Alexander, speaking from the Senate floor.

  7. Harold says:

Another reason Trump pulled Americas support of this unfavorable and thoughtless Obama screw up agreement was China.

Right now China is on the verge of becoming the global economy leader, (per several business reports), and America will slip to second. This could come as some as 2018.

China is the major leader in Climate pollutants right now, and yes the USA is a close second, however Russia, India and Germany are right there as well. But we seem to be doing more and are striving to reduce our pollutants, China is doing nothing to correct it effectively, especially as they grow their economy. One interesting note from economist is China would benefit financially (even as a leader in the world’s economy) from the money the US would be obligated to put in the climate accord.

And China could do so without contributing financially, why because of Chinas pollutants and the way this agreement rewards those counties that continue to pollute

Which to date, China only seems to be contributing more pollutants, and no money.

Once more, like NATO, the rest of the world is using America’s economy as a piggy bank to supplement their own failures to comply.

Trump see’s this clearly, he also realizes we at home are currently doing our part in reducing pollutants annually, (yes we can always do more, and I believe Trump will encourage us to do more.) which cannot be said of other countries in the agreement who are in it for the money, not the climate. And once more a reminder, China is the major polluter in the world, as reported.

I believe Trump will not prevent the USA from doing more on reducing our own pollutant output, and nothing needs to change from us doing so after leaving this lopsided agreement, however the US cannot have much of an effect on the rest of the world polluters, if other counties only interest is money supplied by the US, so Trump wisely cuts off the money.
Trump understands funding other countries has limited benefit for the USA, Trump gets it, now the rest of the world needs to figure it out as well, you cannot “liberally” just throw money at a problem when there are more abusers than contributors, and other countries need to be working to eliminate their pollutants, without USA money.

Climate change has almost become (if not already) a religion for the left, it’s time we practiced separating Religion and Politics again.

    • Libby says:

“Right now China is on the verge of becoming the global economy leader, (per several business reports), ….”

Like which, for instance? Everything I hear is that China already realizes that it’s speedy growth rate is unsustainable, resource-wise, pollution-wise, and cash-wise, and the government is very, very worried about how the populace will respond when it is discovered that in China, like here, only 20 percent get to be comfortable. Everybody else has to be uncomfortable.

Did you by any chance read about the wave running under a melting Greenland? Spooky stuff.

And to deny America’s culpability as Polluter Number One, for the last hundred years yet !!!! … has to be the most pig-headed and selfish denial of reality yet exhibited on this site.

      • Harold says:

You might want to look up more current info on China’s economic growth, and potential revised economic growth plan thru 2020 verses the misinformation (wasn’t near as bad as predictions) that some stated about their declining growth numbers, mostly based on a couple years past, which I would believe is most likely the ‘everything I have heard’ you based your statement on.

As to the spooky stuff, have you read about the “snowflake meltdown” due to the Liberal Neanderthal period we are experiencing now?, which has nothing to do about climate change, just a liberal adolescent response to not getting their way, wait that’s not spooky , just funny as all he!!

Stay cool little snowflake. you’ll last longer

        • Harold says:

Oh one more thing, With Trump running the country, China may not have the political advantage in world economics they had when Obama was running us into the ground.

We just have to see now what a America first leader can do, even given the politics first,American people last “resist everything” movement you liberals are going to be hanging yourselves with!

          Drip Drip Drip, little snowflake

  8. Peggy says:

We need to all remember this is not a treaty because Obama when he had control of Congress and the Senate couldn’t get his agreement approved. Not only didn’t the Senate Dems want it neither did the people/voters.

Trump was right to withdraw leaving the door open to bring the other nations involved back to the table to negotiate a better agreement for America. It’s outrageous China, that has a better economy than we do, not have to reign in their pollution for another 20 years. The same goes for India and other countries not required to take corrective measures now.

    • Post Scripts says:

India and China are gross polluters, delaying any actions from them for 20 years is kinda absurd.

      • Peggy says:

        Agree.

As I’ve said before I didn’t vote for Trump, but I sure agree with him on this. I ditto what Harold said above.

Trump IS putting what’s best for America first, just like the leaders of the other countries are. Obama put the world first and sold the US out in every agreement he made.

If those other countries don’t like Trump pulling us completely out they can come back to the table and work something out. I’ll bet Trump won’t give any of those still polluting countries 20 years of doing and paying nothing, while we pick up the tab. Not going to happen again.

    • Peggy says:

I actually don’t have a problem with states setting their own standards. Calif. did decades ago with it’s nuclear power, car emissions and gas blends.

If people don’t like it they can vote with their feet, like many former California residents have.

  10. Tina says:

Roger L Simon of PJ Media:

I learned firsthand just how much it was the latter when covering COP15 — the UN climate conference in Copenhagen at the tail end of 2009. That the event occurred in near-blizzard conditions with temperatures hovering close to single digits was the least of it. As we all know, that’s weather, not climate. Right?

Naturally, most of the conference was deadly dull — except for watching junketing U.S. politicians scarfing down modernist Danish jewelry in the Marriott gift shop. But during one of the tedious panel discussions, I found myself sitting next to the representative of one of the Pacific islands said to be on the edge of being submerged. A pleasant fellow, I engaged him in conversation, attempting to commiserate with him about the fate of his homeland. The diplomat started laughing. “Don’t you believe in global warming?” I asked. “It’s nonsense,” he said. He went to explain that his island was just fine. They had some bad weather and had put up sandbags, but now they were gone. So I then asked why he had come all the way from the South Pacific to Denmark and he looked at me in astonishment. “For the money,” he said, continuing to stare at me as if I were some kind of cretin who had wangled a press pass. (Okay, I wouldn’t have been the first.)

The exploitation of American generosity is only possible because of American gullibility.

Trump just shot the gullible a raspberry!

    • Libby says:

A raspberry is not an argument. It’s certainly not “evidence” of anything. And did he have to stand there waving his arms like a late-night telly huckster?

      The man has no class.

  11. Tina says:

Must see video:The Paris Climate Agreement Won’t Change the Climate .

The agreement calls for Trillions in spending for fractional improvement. If the signers met their agreements, which is doubtful, they would spend $100 – $200 TRILLION (thanks Peggy) each year to reduce temperatures by a measly 0.3 of a degree. And the wizards of smart think that’s a deal worthy of support.

Those who complain that America should pay more becasue we use more energy should consider the size of America compared to Germany or France. They should also consider the many ways that energy use is used in ways that have benefited Germany and France…energy consumption for their defense for instance. Energy to maintain the UN building for another. Energy to feed the world.

Maybe we should look to the people who have actually created the technologies that improve conditions instead of demonizing them and making them the enemy. I have a feeling they would accomplish more on a much much smaller budget. IF the real concern is for conservation of the planet and not a big wealth transfer that would be the smarter path to follow…just as we have been doing for decades in America.

    • Peggy says:

Tina, just a clarification. This should read $100-$200 TRILLION, I believe.

      Great video.

“…which is doubtful, they would spend $100 – $200 each year to reduce temperatures …”

      • Tina says:

Thanks Peggy, lol, I had written the number s with all of the zeroes and decided the word “trillion” would be better. I deleted the zeroes but forgot to replace them with the word.

$100 – $200 TRILLION over ten years is a lot to pay for a 0.3 of degree improvement. The left is dangerous.

        Keep on keepin’ me straight.

        • Peggy says:

Hey, I’ve got your back when I can. lol

The left isn’t just dangerous, they’re nuts. Hearing Brown and Arnold today along with the other dems and the media is mind blowing. They just love spending OUR money like it’s their own and have nothing to show for it. Remember Solyndra? Did WE spend like $2 million per job on that boondoggle? Sure don’t hear anyone complaining about it on the news today.

Brown is also working on Calif. having a single payer health care costing $400 BILLION A YEAR. Add that to the new gas tax of an additional $500 average increase per car per year and the only ones who will be left in the state soon will be the left elites.

  12. Rick Clements says:

Wow!!! Trump stood by the American citizens, protected the American citizens and all the working Americans who are entrusted to support their families and their happiness as they vowed in their marriage promises to complete; and to have rich American millionaire and billionaire Democrats or EU Leaders seeking a New World Globalization of Socialism to undermine those vows; anyone following this delusion, deserves a one way trip to Syria. Along with that trip comes a $5,000 bet that once they preach their crap over there, they will be shot within 3 days!
