I’m sure when they launched the probe they imagined they would find instance after prosecutable instance of illegal online gun purchases. But alas the study revealed just the opposite:
A Democrat-backed study meant to expose illicit online gun sales instead seemed to show the opposite — with hardly any sellers taking the bait when undercover investigators tried to set up dozens of illegal firearm transactions.
Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., as well as Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, had commissioned the Government Accountability Office report to look into how online private dealers might be selling guns to people not allowed to have them.
Their efforts were based on a 2016 report from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which claimed that “anonymity of the internet makes it an ideal means for prohibited individuals to obtain illegal firearms.”
The investigation involved undercover agents who attempted to “buy firearms illegally on the ‘Surface Web’ and the ‘Dark Web,’ generally by sharing their status as ‘prohibited individuals’ or trying to buy across state lines.” The operation went on for two and a half years.
It just goes to show that what a person believes to be true, and continually claims to be true, isn’t always true. We call it fake news when the media do so…what label shall we apply to the likes of Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., as well as Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii?
Further, how much fear, hatred and division has been created in the populace over such outrageous errant claims?
This is why Trump supporters don’t mind Trumps bombastic tweets. We might prefer a much higher level of discourse but that isn’t the plane on which our opponents play. Trump understands that.He fights for us on the field of battle our opponents have been operating on for decades.
If a politician adopts a composed, erudite manner of speaking but continually delivers deceitful misrepresentations or lies is that preferable? Is it okay to accuse others of racism, greed, or hatred without specific information as long as it’s delivered with a serious demeanor? Is it acceptable to represent an entire segment of the population, gun owners, as dangerous or demented as long as you deliver remarks in the context of caring about children?
I think not.
Will this study, which failed to prove left wing talking points accurate, result in apologies? Will Cummings, Warren and Schatz admit they’ve been wrong? Nah…that’s not how the left plays the game.
OOPS! Another Demwit gun-control scheme falls flat.
We had another of the same type of hare-brained scheme called Fast & Furious that caused the death of Brian Terry and was covered up by AG Holder and Obumble. The Terry family and voters are still waiting for answers . . . . . . . .
