“Okay, I’ll be the bad guy and say what no one else is brave enough to say, but wants to say. I’ll take all the criticism and attacks from everyone because you know what? I’m a TEACHER. I live this life daily. And I wouldn’t do anything else! But I also know daily I could end up in an active shooter situation.
Until we, as a country, are willing to get serious and talk about mental health issues, lack of available care for the mental health issues, lack of discipline in the home, horrendous lack of parental support when the schools are trying to control horrible behavior at school (oh no! Not MY KID. What did YOU do to cause my kid to react that way?), lack of moral values, and yes, I’ll say it-violent video games that take away all sensitivity to ANY compassion for others’ lives, as well as reality TV that makes it commonplace for people to constantly scream up in each other’s faces and not value any other person but themselves, we will have a gun problem in school. Our kids don’t understand the permanency of death anymore!!!
I grew up with guns. Everyone knows that. But you know what? My parents NEVER supported any bad behavior from me. I was terrified of doing something bad at school, as I would not have had a life until I corrected the problem and straightened my ass out. My parents invaded my life. They knew where I was ALL the time. They made me have a curfew. They made me wake them up when I got home. They made me respect their rules. They had full control of their house, and at any time could and would go through every inch of my bedroom, backpack, pockets, anything! Parents: it’s time to STEP UP! Be the parent that actually gives a crap! Be the annoying mom that prices and knows what your kid is doing. STOP being their friend. They have enough “friends” at school. Be their parent. Being the “cool mom” means not a damn thing when either your kid is dead or your kid kills other people because they were allowed to have their space and privacy in YOUR HOME. I’ll say it again. My home was filled with guns growing up. For God’s sake, my daddy was an 82nd Airborne Ranger who lost half his face serving our country. But you know what? I never dreamed of shooting anyone with his guns. I never dreamed of taking one! I was taught respect for human life, compassion, rules, common decency, and most of all, I was taught that until I moved out, my life and bedroom wasn’t mine…it was theirs. And they were going to know what was happening because they loved me and wanted the best for me.
There. Say that I’m a horrible person. I didn’t bring up gun control, and I will refuse to debate it with anyone. This post wasn’t about gun control. This was me, loving the crap out of people and wanting the best for them. This was about my school babies and knowing that God created each one for greatness, and just wanting them to reach their futures. It’s about 20 years ago this year I started my teaching career. Violence was not this bad 20 years ago. Lack of compassion wasn’t this bad 20 years ago. And God knows 20 years ago that I wasn’t afraid daily to call a parent because I KNEW that 9 out of 10 would cuss me out, tell me to go to Hell, call the news on me, call the school board on me, or post all over Facebook about me because I called to let them know what their child chose to do at school…because they are a NORMAL kid!!!!!

If parents in California gave a crap about their kids they would not continue to elect extreme left wing Democrats (I will call them Rats here for the sake of brevity and convenience) who would rather demonize the gun rights advocates and private citizen gun owners instead of passing laws that could actually protect them from the evil or deranged.
Parents giving a crap would not vote for Rats who have more interest in punishing legitimate, law abiding gun owners with ridiculous laws that have no effect on criminals or criminal activity, push towards grabbing guns from the hands of the law abiding citizenry and pass laws that seek to stifle and obstruct legitimate trade in guns and ammunition. They would not vote for Rats who once fraudulently touted “sensible gun laws” aimed to decimate the Bill of Rights and pass obscene laws that leave children unprotected and at the mercy of the evil or deranged. The euphemism of “sensible gun laws” (code for gun grabbing one small step at a time) these days has been replaced by more honest in-your-face legislation and activism directly attacking the 2nd Amendment. Yet California parents continue to vote for Rats who pass wholly asinine legislation such as the idiotic “gun free zones” and a completely insane law that makes it illegal for teachers to volunteer to be trained and armed to protect children from potential mass murderers. These absurd laws are code to criminals for “easy pickin’s.”
Given the current environment it appears California parents prefer dead children to be used as martyrs to further the gun grabbing political agenda of the extreme left which no longer even bothers to hide its aim to disarm the citizenry and strip them of their God given rights to keep and bear arms. If California parents really wanted safety for their children they would say stop electing Rats who are doing everything in their power to make them sitting ducks. Face it, Rats love dead children. Rats want dead children. Rats thrive on dead children and use them to politicize violent tragedy in order to push their anti-2nd amendment agenda. The Rats are so confident in their cause and political power that they don’t even try to disguise their aims anymore.
The state of California has gone completely insane. From creating environments that leave school children exposed to killers to obstructing ICE attempting to do their duty by arresting, incarcerating and deporting illegal alien criminals and tipping illegal alien criminals off to ICE operations. California cares more about illegal alien criminals, obstructing and violating federal law and kowtowing to powerful racist and race-baiting identity-politics organizations than they care about the safety of legitimate citizens (and illegal aliens) such criminals victimize. President Trump praises the LA police sweep of MS-13 and promises to close legal loopholes that aid and abet criminal gang immigration and the Rats label him a racist.
Parents who do care about their kids’ safety, who do care about the rule of law, who do care about the Bill of Rights are evacuating the state in droves, fed up with the sheer lunacy of the Rats who run this state and whom are doing their best to turn it into a dangerous ****hole.
Glimmers of hope?
If you think any of the above is a tad hyperbolic, you are right, it is. But only a tad considering just how just how determined Rats are to pass laws that violate your gun rights and give not only succor to, but aid and abet criminal illegal aliens to avoid capture.
Last month, after nearly two years of litigation and in spite of the Sacramento Superior Court upholding a draconian California DOJ gun control policy the California Court of Appeal ultimately found that the policy was illegal —

How long will Californians continue to vote extreme leftist, gun grabbing, illegal alien criminal loving Rats into office? Will Californians continue to support a depraved and corrupt political class that obstructs justice, flouts federal law, kowtows to racist identity politics organizations, and cares more for illegal aliens and illegal alien criminals than it does for legitimate citizens?
Only time will tell. I am not hopeful. The Democrat Party is owned by the lunatic left (some of whom frequent these pages) and this state is owned by the Democrat party, but there is that glimmer. How long will it take Californians who decide not to abandon this literal insane asylum of a state to get fed up? (Note to any carping nit-pickers, I use “Democrat Party” instead of “Democratic Party” on purpose just to annoy you.)

I think she raises several good points, especially about parenting and mental health. I take issue with the violent video game point; there’s no evidence that mass shooters were any more likely to play violent video games than others, nor is there evidence that violent crime has increased along with the rise of violence in video games; actually, the opposite has occurred. While I appreciate her passion I think she’s conflating a lot of discipline problems in with the problem of kids who become mass shooters, whereas there doesn’t necessarily seem to be a big overlap between those problems from my understanding. I think it would make more sense to look at what these school shooters had in common and work from there instead of conflating their issues with the other problems she brings up. I also agree that growing up with guns isn’t the problem, but easy access to guns by kids with serious violent tendencies may be a problem.

Florida laws were already in place that could have disarmed the shooter. The law didn’t fail, every single level of government and law enforcement failed from the school “mall cop” moron/coward, to the FBI.
But go ahead Chris, pass yet another stupid law that violates the rights of everyone else and does nothing to stop criminals.
Florida has already done just that. At 18 you can vote and and sign up to sacrifice your life for the country but cannot purchase a gun. This sheer lunacy will not stop anyone from shooting up a school.
Life would be a whole lot better if kids were taught the true history of the NRA, it’s mission and our Founders’ reason for putting the 2nd Amendment in our Constitution.
