Trump Picks Brett Kavanaugh for Supreme Court

Posted by Tina

President Trump announced his choice for the Supreme Court this evening, Brett Kavanaugh. Judge Kavanaugh, aged 53, has served for twelve years on the DC federal court of appeals which is regarded, according to Ed Whelan of National Review, as “the second-most-important court in the country.” While seated on the DC court of appeals he was confronted with a number of “consequential constitutional and statutory issues” where a “number of his positions in dissents” were later adopted by the Supreme Court. Whelan goes into detail about his history, character, and credentials…I’ll post a few of the highlights:

Judge Kavanaugh has won high marks for restraining the administrative state within legal bounds. …

(Kavanaugh argued) “the constitutional text and the original understanding . . . are essential to proper interpretation of our enduring Constitution.” Two years later, when the Supreme Court embraced Kavanaugh’s dissent, Scalia and Thomas were part of the five-justice majority. …

Kavanaugh argued (in dissent) that the District of Columbia’s ban on possession of most semi-automatic weapons and its registration requirement for all guns violated the Second Amendment.

Kavanaugh argued (in Priests for Life v. HHS, again in dissent) that the HHS contraceptive mandate violated the religious-liberty rights of objecting religious organizations. He also rejected an Establishment Clause challenge to the prayers at the presidential inauguration and to the inclusion of “so help me God” in the official presidential oath.

Kavanaugh has opined that illegal-immigrant workers are not entitled to vote in union elections and that “mere economic expediency does not authorize an employer to displace American workers for foreign workers.” He has also recognized the government’s interest in “supporting American farmers and ranchers against their foreign competitors.”

Kavanaugh objected to his court’s grant of relief to… (a pregnant unaccompanied-alien minor) … he complained that the majority concocted “a constitutional principle as novel as it is wrong: a new right for unlawful immigrant minors in U.S. Government detention to obtain immediate abortion on demand.”

The out-of-their-minds left has been protesting for days. A few cillege students badmouthed Trumps pick even before he made his decision. Tonight in DC Fox News host, Shannon Bream, “felt threatened” by “aggressive protesters” as she reported from the field in DC:

“Very few times I’ve felt threatened while out in the field. The mood here tonight is very volatile,” Bream tweeted. “Law enforcement appears to be closing down 1st Street in front of SCOTUS.” … “Literally had to bail on our live show from [the Supreme Court]. Moving the show back to the safety of the studio”

More on Judge Kavanaugh at PJ Media.

I just pray no harm will come to anyone as we go through the process of making this fine man the next member of the US Supreme Court.

      Exactly.

      • Libby says:

        Good God …

“It’s very clear that Democrats — the politicians, not all the people who vote for them — hate democracy. Democrats don’t believe that power is from the people; rather Democrats believe that the elites, which in the minds of Democrats is made up solely of Democrats, should rule the rest of us.”

It’s Tina’s programmer … I mean, word for word. Spooky.

        • Pie Guevara says:

So says the sock puppet who regurgitates Salon, Puffington Host, MSLSD, Media Matters …

          • Libby says:

… “hate democracy” … “rule the rest of us” …

Pie, Tina … I double-dog-dare you to find a comparable quote … parroted by myself.

        • Tina says:

Please tell us how the assertion is inaccurate.

You like government control. I didn’t have to read anything to see that.

You approve of socialist programs (Obamacare, SS, MCare, etc) run from on high.

You’re in favor of EPA regulations, even if they harm or destroy the economy and jobs, and even when they don’t significantly clean up the air and water.

All of the Democrat (socialist) programs, taxes, and regulations come from on high by a few people in power using manipulative rhetoric and tactics…and you like it that way.

You are one of the Democrats who DO approve.

All of a sudden restaurant confrontation/intimidation and riots over border policy Obama used have vanished from the left protest agenda. The meltdowns are all focused on Kavanaugh. Here are some amusing moments, let’s see of WordPress will embed them —

I am mightily intrigued by Mitch’s behavior: a call for “fairness”? … after his treatment of Garland?

Oooooh, BIG BANG! And perfectly understandable, predictable, in fact.

Makes me wonder is ol’ Mitch doesn’t have it in for Brett. Because, of course, you have to know that the fourth estate is combing through the poor guy’s middle school transcript. I hope he wasn’t one of those thirteen-year-old, pimply gropers … cause if he was … the WaPo is hot on the trail of the gropees.

    Ah, America !

    • Peggy says:

HAHAHAHA Oh Libs you’re going to love it.

Yes, as Obama rudely said to McCain, “Elections have consequences, and at the end of the day, I won.” Trump won too, learn to deal with it.

Too Bad Obama Didn’t Follow His Own Advice:

“If you want just 100 percent and the notion is that the winner really does take all—all the spoils—sooner or later that government is going to break down.” – President Obama to New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, August 8, 2014.

“Elections have consequences, and at the end of the day, I won.” – President Obama to House Republican Whip Eric Cantor, January 23, 2009.

If only the current-day President Obama could travel back in time and warn his newly elected self about the dangers of pursuing a governing agenda that excludes and alienates the opposition.”

    • Tina says:

Nothing compares to the Democrats deplorable treatment of Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas.

Your party set us upon this ugly path decades ago. The unprofessional, unethical behavior belongs to you and your party…you own it…and Americans are watching. We don’t like it much.

Sure does make all your concerns over bullying and intolerance seem totally disingenuous…fake even!!!

    • Tina says:

I predict he will be confirmed and confirmed quicky.

Your screeching mobs are becoming so much annoying noise and not much more. Sore loser brat children will not be the deciders in these important matters.

      • Libby says:

Hey! Mitch is not a screeching mob. He’s head honcho of the Senate. And he deliberately set the fourth estate on Brett. Cool.

        • Tina says:

Libby: “I double-dog-dare you to find a comparable quote … parroted by myself.”

It’s true Libby, you are a lousy parrot…half the time I have to ask you what the he77 you’re saying. But clearly you talk the progressive talk and hold the same general views of the radicals in your party as well as a level of hatred based on nonsense and unwarranted fear.

I could find one…but who wants to spend their time doing that? Certainly not me.

        • Tina says:

Mitch McConnell has nothing but praise for Brett Kavanaugh

The Senate confirmed him 12 years ago and they will confirm him again.

Off topic, but I don’t want anybody to miss this—

I spent two and a half years on the ground as part of NATO in (the former) West Germany. Well done, Mr. President. AFT (about time).

    • Libby says:

Heh ! So was my Uncle! He was in “intelligence”, spoke German and Russian, so one of his duties was to ride into little towns and villages ahead of the Tank-Column-In-Training, and advise to locals to get their dogs and kids off the street … cause we is coming through.

I always felt for the poor Germans … having to put up with that sort of thing. Do you know what a tank column will do to your pavement? (That’s why The Donald don’t get to have his parade, poor baby.)

    • RHT447 says:

First off, my compliments to Lippy’s uncle for his service. How odd that she puts the word intelligence in quotation marks in describing his duties.

I was in some of those very same tank columns she mentions, driving the lead jeep. They were not “in training”, they were damn good at their job. Yes, a military convoy was a temporary PIA for traffic. However, our route and time were exactly as dictated by the German Poletizei. So yes, those poor, put upon
Germans. I’m sure if the convoys had been Russian, they would have served tea and crumpets to all.

  4. Libby says:

“How odd that she puts the word intelligence in quotation marks in describing his duties.”

You know, “military intelligence” … a contradiction in terms!

And of course you were training! What’s wrong with that?
