Jussy Smollet’s Story a Hoax? NOOOOOOOO!

Posted by Jack

Two law enforcement sources with knowledge of the investigation tell CNN that Chicago Police believe actor Jussie Smollet paid two men to orchestrate an assault on him that he reported late last month.

The men, who are brothers, were arrested Wednesday but released without charges Friday after Chicago police cited the discovery of “new evidence.”

The sources told CNN the two men are now cooperating fully with law enforcement.

Smollett told authorities he was attacked early January 29 by two men who were “yelling out racial and homophobic slurs.” He said one attacker put a rope around his neck and poured an unknown chemical substance on him.  (One of the brothers worked on the set with Smollet, gee what a co-incidence!)

The sources told CNN there are records that show the two brothers purchased the rope found around Smollett’s neck at an Ace Hardware store in Chicago.

CNN’s attempts Saturday to reach both Smollett’s representative and attorney were unsuccessful.

Smollett identifies as gay and since 2015 has played the gay character of Jamal on the Fox TV drama “Empire.”

What happened

According to Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, the actor told detectives he was attacked by two men near the lower entrance of a Lowe’s store in Chicago. Police were told the two men yelled “‘Empire’ fa***t” and “‘Empire’ n***er'” while striking him.

The day after the incident, police released surveillance images that showed two silhouetted individuals walking down a sidewalk, and police said they were wanted for questioning.

The two men were arrested Wednesday. Police on Friday said the men were being viewed as “potential suspects” and that detectives had “probable cause that they may have been involved in an alleged crime.”

But by Friday night they had been released, Guglielmi said, “due to new evidence as a result of today’s investigations.”

“And detectives have additional investigative work to complete,” he added.

One of the men has appeared on “Empire,” Guglielmi said. A police source also told CNN on Friday night that the men had a previous affiliation with Smollett, but did not provide additional details.

Smollett has expressed frustration about not being believed

Following the alleged attack, Smollett’s colleagues and fans rallied around him, expressing shock and sadness.

“We have to love each other regardless of what sexual orientation we are because it shows that we are united on a united front,” Lee Daniels, the creator of “Empire,” said in a video posted to his Instagram page on January 29. “And no racist f*** can come in and do the things that they did to you. Hold your head up, Jussie. I’m with you.”

Smollett gave his first detailed account of what he says was a hate crime against him, and the aftermath, in an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America” that aired Thursday.

During the interview he expressed frustration at not being believed.

“It feels like if I had said it was a Muslim or a Mexican or someone black I feel like the doubters would have supported me a lot much more,” Smollett said. “And that says a lot about the place where we are as a country right now.”

Smollett also refuted reports that said he told police the attackers wore “Make America Great Again” hats.

“I never said that,” he told ABC’s Robin Roberts. “I didn’t need to add anything like that. They called me a f****t, they called me a n****r. There’s no which way you cut it. I don’t need some MAGA hat as the cherry on some racist sundae.”

CNN’s Ryan Young and Brad Parks reported from Chicago, while Dakin Andone reported and wrote this story in Atlanta. CNN’s Lisa Respers France, Sandra Gonzalez and Shawn Nottingham contributed to this report.

It was obviously a hoax. Anyone with even half a brain could see it from the beginning.

Anyway, here’s what I posted in the Frederick Douglass entry before this entry was up:

Poor old Smollett…his story is unraveling faster than a mummy on a merry-go-round.

Hope you people don’t get Smollett’ed

Wonder if Chris will issue an apology…

A lot of liberals around here should start apologizing…

In this day and age when cities like Chicago are blanketed with surveillance cameras and when cops have access to everything a smart phone produces, sends and receives (phone calls, texts, geo-location info, etc.) how on earth did Smollett think he could get away with such a harebrained scheme?

Not only is he a liar and a criminal, he’s an idiot. But to the liberals, like those who infest this blog, he’s one of America’s finest patriots.

  2. Joe says:

So it turns out his “attackers” were Nigerian? I had no idea the Klan had a branch in Nigeria. :0

  3. Joe says:

Here’s what Kramala Harris had to say:

“This was an attempted modern day lynching.”

She is either too stupid to see through this ridiculous hoax or she new it was fake and she said that just for political purposes. Which is it, Chris?

And here’s some comedy courtesy Nancy Palooza…and the TURKEYcrats…

CONFUSION: Pelosi wishes ‘Happy Thanksgiving’ — on Valentine’s Day!

    • Chris says:

The president just lied about the former president telling him he was close to going to war with North Korea, which never happened. It was one at least 15 false claims he made in the same press conference. But sure, Pelosi accidentally saying the wrong holiday is important.

      • Joe says:

Did you read the post? The word comedy was used. It was FUNNY. But you liberals have no sense of humor.

      • Joe says:

And do you really expect me to believe you and Obama over Trump?

        • Chris says:

And do you really expect me to believe you and Obama over Trump?

No, because you are an idiot.

        • Joe says:

So I saw that was a hoax from the start and you didn’t, yet I’m the idiot? What a delusional liberal you are!

          • Chris says:

            “you’re buddy Jussie”

And I’ve never even heard of him until this incident. You see everyone who disagrees with you as an undifferentiated mass, which is why you posted that photo of Jussie with Obama, because you, like many Trumpers, are a collectivist posing as an individualist.

You “saw” that it was a hoax from the start because of your own political bias. That you were right in this instance doesn’t make your motives pure, nor does it make how you got the right answer valid. Your glee in this has been perverse.

When MAGA people claim they’ve been attacked, I don’t automatically assume they’re lying—even though there have been plenty of hoaxes on that side. False reports of anything are rare, so I tend to listen to people who say they’re victims until I see evidence to the contrary, which is what I did in this instance. I think that’s fair. You seem to think we should automatically believe that people who say they have been the victims of hate crimes are lying from the start just because you don’t want to believe in hate crimes. Yes, you’re an idiot, as shown by your continued cult-like faith in Trump, a man who gets caught in at least one new lie on a good day.

          • Joe says:

I’m a collectivist but you’re not? That’s rich coming from someone who wants the gooberment poking around in every aspect of our lives.

You are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts. And the fact is I saw through Jessie’s lies and felonious behavior from the start and you didn’t.

          • Post Scripts says:

            Joe, yes you did.

          • Joe says:

You are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts.

And the fact is that I saw through your buddy Juicy Smollett’s lies and felonious behavior from the start and you didn’t.

      • More Common Sense says:

I’m looking for a link to a story where Obama refutes this claim. I can’t find one. There are Obama aids that refute the claim but were they in every conversation between Trump and Obama? I doubt it. The statement is that Obama told him something. Did he or didn’t he? I can’t find a response from Obama that says he didn’t. Maybe there is one, but I can’t find it.

        • Post Scripts says:

Common sense… sorry, I can’t find it either.

          • More Common Sense says:

Interesting……. But Chris is sure Trump lied. I believe he said “The president just lied about the former president telling him he was close to going to war with North Korea, which never happened.” Remember what Reagan said, “It isn’t so much that liberals are ignorant. It’s just that they know so many things that aren’t so.”

        • Chris says:

Again, I implore you to actually live up to your namesake. Do you really think Obama would have told Trump that he was close to war with North Korea, even if that were true? Why would he do that? What would he stand to gain? How would that do himself or the world any good?

Trump has a history of making up things that people told him in order to make himself look better. This has been extremely well documented. How can you be unaware of this in 2019?

          • More Common Sense says:

Chris, I now understand the root of your problem. You are so enamored with your opinion that you just automatically accept it as fact. You stated “Trump lied” as a fact. The real fact is in your opinion Trump lied.

The only other possible reason is you accept what all the anti Trump talking heads out there are telling you to believe. This seems to be the root of the whole Liberal issue with Trump. There are so many things the Liberals believe about Trump that are not based in fact but in opinion. When I talk to liberal friends and ask for proof of their claims about Trump more often then not I get the response “I just know it”. There is no evidence, but “I just know it”.

So how many people do you have to have believe an opinion before it is a fact; 1, 100, 100,000, 1 million, 100 million? Well, it doesn’t matter how many people believe it. If there isn’t proof it is not a fact.

Again, “It isn’t so much that liberals are ignorant. It’s just that they know so many things that aren’t so.”

          • Chris says:

Ok, I guess I am gonna have to show the receipts, since the Trump supporters here appear to have that Drew Barrymore condition where every day they wake up they forget every previous day.

Here’s the Boy Scouts refuting Trump’s lie that they called him to tell him he gave the greatest speech ever:

Here’s John Oliver refuting Trump’s lie that Oliver had invited him onto the show:

Here are former presidents refuting Trump’s lie that they told him they supported the wall:

Of course, maybe you think all of these people are lying and only Trump is telling the truth, in which case, congratulations! You’ve accidentally joined a cult.

There is a pattern here. Trump makes up things that people told him that make him sound great. He does this because he is a vain narcissist who cares only about people seeing him as great.

This is obvious, and it is obviously what happened in this case, because under no circumstances would Obama have ever told Trump he was about to go to war with North Korea.

And think about it: Even if it were true, wouldn’t spilling this secret make Trump look bad anyway? Why would he reveal such a thing? Again, the only motivation would be to make himself look better than Obama.

So you have a president who is either lying for self-aggrandizement or spilling a state secret for self-aggrandizement. And you are gonna get all huffy when he is accused of lying as part of a long, long pattern of lying to make himself look better?

That’s the hill you want to die on?

A person with common sense wouldn’t do that.

Jack, your first post on this issue (now archived) seems to have been correct, at least based on this article. It was all too coincidental, given the timing.

Seems J.Soden and you were on to something with your hoax opinions right along.

  8. Libby says:

Horrifically assaulted, eh? Medical report notes: A scratch on the cheek. (and this appears to be contrived by the victim)

Again: the police confirmed to the media that he had been attacked. That is a fact that was pointed out in the article you linked to. I cannot explain this any clearer, and the fact that you think *you* need to get through to *me* when you can’t even comprehend the facts you present is hilarious.

    Chris says:
Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 11:29 am (Edit)
The police confirmed that he was attacked. The article you linked to does not state as fact that the attack was a hate crime, only that it happened. The media doesn’t need to use the word “allegedly” unless they are describing specific individuals suspected of being the attackers. You should know all of this.

(Chris, no the police didn’t. I never found any evidence that the police bought into Smollet’s story. And further, the suspicious nature of it raised many red flags in my mind, leading me to think the story could have been a hoax. Furthermore, I was angry that many of our news media ran this highly suspicious story with all its discrepancies as fact. And they did it in ways that could only incite people to violence and cast further dispersions upon the president for their own political gain. That part seemed especially irresponsible and unjust to me.)

Chris, Chris, Chris… you don’t get it. My criticism was directed at the media for writing the story as a horrific attack had occurred, not an alleged attack or that the victim claimed he was attacked, but as a statement of fact… that he was absolutely attacked! Gee it is so hard to get thru to you sometimes. By the way did you stop consider this may be a hoax? Did that part ever, at any time, ever enter your mind? If so, you are and I are in agreement. I’m just asking the questions and pointing out odd parts of his story that seemed to be suspicious, sorry that I’m not taking the “alleged” victims story on face value like the liberal media did. I’m not saying the cops should not investigate, they should. But, they should have an open mind to all possibilities, which they have demonstrated and so should you.

    • Chris says:

Jack, I was going based on the facts as presented in the Boston Globe article you linked to, which seemed to indicate that the police had confirmed an attack had taken place. Whether the attack was staged was an issue I did not delve into as I was waiting for further information. I am still waiting for further information, though I will say the evidence we have seems to indicate Smollet likely staged this attack. I don’t need that to be true or false; I have never seen his show and I know that there are enough real hate crimes to be a problem without idiots adding to the stats with staged ones. If it turns out to be true that he staged the attack I hope he is fully prosecuted and he should definitely be dropped from the show. I was not ready to assume he was lying right away because false accusations of any type of crime are rare, and I wanted more information before I leapt to a conclusion. Note again that I did not say that I believed the attack was definitely a hate crime or that Smollet was telling the truth about the attack at all in the original post.

      • Post Scripts says:

Chris, that was indeed the core issue. The police did not confirm this case as legit. As you said, we did not need this story to be confirmed or refuted. It is what it is. All I really cared about is the truth and to a lesser extent how the media exploited and agitated this incident. That part speaks of low journalism.

      • More Common Sense says:

So maybe you can’t always trust what you read in the Boston Globe.

        • Chris says:

But the Globe was right. There was an attack, and they reported the facts of the attack as reported to them by the police. That the attack was staged doesn’t change any of that.
