Is the 4th of July a Political Event?

by Jack

I know that some ranking democrats are blasting Trump for trying to take over the 4th for his own personal gain and then do a military parade to let dems know who is in change!

This is unfortunate because they are completely wrong and I am not surprised.   The Fourth has never been apolitical or nonpartisan.   During the War of Independence, officials used the anniversary of Congress’s adoption of the Declaration of Independence as an opportunity to bolster anti-British sentiment. They rallied support for the Patriots’ cause with toasts, orations, militia drills and fireworks. In the postwar years, the day transformed into a civics lesson, with Americans extolling the benefits of republican government and, later, the Constitution.

Nothing has changed since 1776.  The 4th of July is the peoples day for sure, but it’s also about government and a reminder why we have the kind of government we do.  We all share the same lifeboat and the 4th should remind us of that.

We’re also long overdue for a military parade.  If I were a soldier I would be  honored to be included in such a parade before the people.  And the people should look upon our military with pride and happiness that we have such a force to defend us.  Trump was right to include the military in a 4th of July parade.  For too long we only trotted out our military when we were in trouble and then when it was over, we conveniently put them back in the box until the next time.  They deserve a victory parade and the 4th of July is a great time to do it.

I’m glad Trump saw fit to deliver!  It’s about damn time.   Wish I could be there to watch it in person.  This will be a day to remember.

There are military units in the parade every year, Dude. But if you’re panting to see the tanks crumble asphalt, you’re still out of luck. They’re just parking the things around the town.

“The Fourth has never been apolitical or nonpartisan.”

And I’m afraid you are quite wrong here too. Some Presidents have used the occasion to air their vanity, but lately, like for the last 50 years, President’s have been largely taking a Holiday with the rest of us.

I hear they’re having a little trouble finding takers for those 5,000 VIP seats. Jack, hop a plane, remember your MAGA hat, explain about Richard, and maybe you can get one !!!

Hey Jack, great news! Governor Nuisance just banned hair discrimination…great news for us balding folks… 🙂

I keep thinking the democrats have reached the bottom level of silliness, and then here they come again!
It’s not necessary to point out how hysterical democrats have become. They’re not even political any more. I’d say they’re being childish, but they remind me more of demons being splashed with holy water.
Screaming and gnashing of teeth is what comes to mind.

Do you have no concerns that Trump is essentially using this as a campaign rally to stroke his own ego?

And what of the financial cost? Does fiscal conservatism just not apply here?

Happy Independence Day! I for one am proud to be an American and refuse to let those who try to demean it without speaking up to defend her. Our nation is not perfect as no nation is, but it’s proven to be better than the ones millions of people who are coming here to escape from.

The following are the words of a great man from our past who also saw the greatness and opportunity America had for those who sought it.

“A nation requires a narrative, and in America’s case, the requisite narrative for two centuries just happened to be both positive and true. The republic was in fact — not in myth — “conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” In the seventy-sixth year of American independence, a man born a slave and therefore subjected to the most grotesque injustice in American history had this to say of the republic that had sustained his own bondage: “Allow me to say, in conclusion, notwithstanding the dark picture I have this day presented of the state of the nation, I do not despair of this country. There are forces in operation, which must inevitably work the downfall of slavery. ‘The arm of the Lord is not shortened,’ and the doom of slavery is certain. I, therefore, leave off where I began, with hope … [D]rawing encouragement from the Declaration of Independence, the great principles it contains, and the genius of American Institutions.”

For Frederick Douglass, the remedy for America was America. This had the virtue of being entirely true. What was true is now passé. What great fortune we are now blessed with much wiser men than him. In the place of a Douglass, or a Lincoln, with their misguided faith in America and Americans, we have moral titans like Kaepernick, Rapinoe, Buttigieg, Castro, and all the rest.”

It was excellent. Trump’s one goof was no big deal. We all knew what he meant.

    Called it:

“In 2004 when we were making convention film for President Bush, we were explicitly prohibited from using official White House shot video. Now Trump WH is not only using video but paying for full production. This is probably $500,000 of your tax dollars.”

Funny too was seeing Beto speaking Spanish to a bunch of American English speakers during the debate to “earn” their votes and English in Mexico to Spanish speakers who can’t vote. Is he really that dumb, or think we are? More popcorn please.
