More On Great Baltimore!

by Jack

We don’t normally get a lot of news about Baltimore, but now that Trump has put the spotlight on this dump, we are learning exactly why he said what he did – that got the democrats livid.  Their anger now looks like a diversionary tactic as another scandal breaks.

After Pres. Trump’s tweet about a filthy and corrupt Baltimore, the new Mayor of Baltimore calls it a great city, but for what, kickbacks, graft, corruption and fleecing the taxpayers?   The last Mayor, Ms. Catherine Pugh, (shown at left) resigned quickly and went into hiding as the FBI were serving search warrants on her luxury homes, her lawyer’s office, at City Hall and associates homes.

The FBI would like to know what became of the 16 billion dollars Baltimore received a year ago to rehab a lot of it’s infrastructure.  They also want to know a lot more about a book deal that looks like a scam run by Pugh.

Former Mayer Catherine Elizabeth Pugh wrote a kids book called Healthy Holly a number years back and then had it self published.  She used the sale of the book as conduit for taking bribes (allegedly).    She (allegedly) did this while serving on various boards and eventually as the Mayor.  People seeking special interest favors paid dearly for this  book (which was published in Canada) and in return they {allegedly} got exactly what they wanted from Pugh in her position of trust.

When the FBI raided her luxury homes, offices, etc., in April of this year Pugh suddenly went missing.  Did she think the search warrants were also arrest warrants?  An arrest warrant are highly likely given what the FBI has uncovered, but they move at their own pace.  So far Pugh remains’ free.

Catherine Elizabeth Pugh was an American Democratic politician who served as the 50th mayor of Baltimore.  She’s been involved in Maryland politics since 1999 when she served on the Baltimore City Council.   She has also held office in the Maryland House of Delegates and the Maryland Senate, serving as the Majority Leader from 2015 to 2016.  She entered politics with nary a dime and she’s now worth millions, a common story among the morally challenged politicians that control vast sums of taxpayers money.

Randy Newman’s “Baltimore” is a long-time favorite of mine. The world is not a perfect place. Baltimore has a long history of not being a perfect place.

But that is not the problem under discussion. We are discussing Trump’s assertion that it is not a perfect place because Black people live there … which is racist. It would be racist if he said it about Cleveland … about anywhere. You seem to be having a great deal of trouble with the concept.

    • More Common Sense says:

No where in anything that Trump said did he say the problems in Baltimore are a result of African Americans living there. He did call out the government officials that have been failing the residents of Baltimore for 50 years.

MCS and PS, that is and was the point of the post.

Where the comment from Lippy came from ,I don’t know, but it has as much crap in it as they do on the streets she calls home. Just more misinformation and a weak attempt to bash Trump.

Vitriol hate is all the liberals have these days, and given the tone of the debates, that’s all their going to run on throughout their upcoming campaigns.

2020 elections can set a better course of recovery for America if Trump can help get a working congress in place. Currently Pelosi and company have only produced stonewalled BS.

I took Trump’s remarks to Cummings to clean up your own house before you verbally attack someone else. Besides, the democrats created the overcrowding mess for not providing the funds to buy the beds, food, supplies needed after months of being informed they were desperately needed.

It’s really interesting how Trump has the ability to turn the spotlight back on the democrats for issues they are responsible for or guilty of.

        • Chris says:

I took Trump’s remarks to Cummings to clean up your own house before you verbally attack someone else.

Which is, you know, the opposite of leadership.

Besides, the democrats created the overcrowding mess for not providing the funds to buy the beds, food, supplies needed after months of being informed they were desperately needed.

No. The administration created the overcrowding mess by implementing zero tolerance instead of following the previous (and successful) policy of letting families go with a court date. And there is no reason to believe further funds would be used to provide more comfortable arrangements for the internees, since the administration has no interest in doing that, and is intentionally inflicting misery upon them as a deterrence tactic.

        • More Common Sense says:

I will say it again Chris, your comments are driven by hate.

“Dog whistles”, are you kidding me? Using that kind of logic you can twist anything anyone says to mean something entirely different than what they meant. There is no logic or truth to it. It is just a justification for lies! If that is all the left has to justify their dishonest rhetoric they are in big trouble because people are just not that stupid!

          • Chris says:

The concept of dogwhistles was laid bare by Republican campaign consultant Lee Atwater in 1981:

You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.”

Republicans have argued for decades that Ronald Reagan’s “welfare queen” rhetoric was not a dogwhistle, and had nothing to do with race. Now that recordings of Reagan referring to blacks as “monkeys” behind closed doors have gone public, are you still going to stick with that line of defense? You’ve already been reduced to arguing that telling minorities to go back to their own countries isn’t racist, even though it’s one of the oldest racist attacks in this country. How much longer are you going to live in denial?

Bobby Jindal argued after Romney’s loss that the party needed to move away from racial divisiveness and anti-intellectualism in order to survive. Instead, you put Trump, the personification of those vices and many others, in the highest office in the land. A temporary victory based on low turnout, voter suppression, electoral college quirks, the failure of the FBI to reveal they were investigating Trump while publically investigating Clinton, and Russian interference gave your party back a whole lot of power, but it can’t and won’t last with our changing demographics and the party chaining itself to one of the most unpopular presidents in history. At some point you are going to have to admit that racism has been a problem in your party for decades, and reject it.

  2. Chris says:

The issue is not whether there are legitimate problems in Baltimore, the issue is the President of the United States using those issues as a cudgel to beat someone who raised concerns about his immigration policies, and his choice to do so in ugly, racially loaded terms. The president does not give a crap about the people of Baltimore. The city exists to him only as a political weapon and a way to mobilize his base against “those people.”

    • More Common Sense says:

      Chris,

“The president does not give a crap about the people of Baltimore.”

You know this for a fact? How? How can you know what Trump is thinking? Your comments about Trump are driven by hate, not facts or logic and they are disgusting!

    • Peggy says:

Chris, you’re full of hateful, racist “crap.”

      • Chris says:

        Not an argument.

        • More Common Sense says:

Okay Chris, right back at you. You say you know what Trump is thinking. That is not an argument, it is fantasy and delusional. Support your comment. How do you know what Trump is thinking? The fact is you don’t. You twist everything he does and says to make it something evil because, somehow, if you can make him a monster, in you mind, that adds strength to your positions. It doesn’t! Your positions are weak because they are based on obvious dishonesty, lies and hate.

          • Chris says:

MCS, I defy you or anyone else to watch this clip and then tell me with a straight face that it shows someone who genuinely cares about the people of Baltimore. He is chuckling about how bad it is and basking in the crowd’s hatred for the city, like he does with his targets at every rally. It does not take mind reading to tell that Trump doesn’t care about everyone but himself, it just takes basic human observation skills. Why do you think he has so many rallies in the first place? Because he only cares about being praised and adored. People on this blog accused Obama of hating America and harboring racism against white for eight years for far less, and now you are going to pretend that drawing conclusions about the mental state of Trump—the easiest man to read in the world, with more tells than wives and children combined—is impossible without telepathy? And you expect this to convince reasonable people?

  3. Peggy says:

Sorry for all the post, but there’s so much crazy stuff going on.

Democrats are up to rigging elections again. Remember Donna Brazile giving Hillary questions before debates? It’s happening again.

Report: Executives From NBC, Comcast Favor Democrat Rep. Kamala Harris:

“A new report is drawing questions about the first round of Democrat primary debates. A recent article published by MRC NewsBustes suggests NBC, which hosted the debates, favored one candidate in particular. That candidate was California Senator Kamala Harris.

Going back to the first event in June, debate moderators allegedly gave Harris more time to speak than her competitors and even broke some rules to do so. The article cites a moment when Harris was allowed to give a speech, where she targeted one of her biggest competitors.

“You also worked with them to oppose bussing …and you know, there was a little girl in California who was part of a second class to integrate her public schools, and she was bussed to school every day…and that little girl was me,” she stated while looking in the direction of opponent Joe Biden.

That particular moment, which became the highlight of the debates, was technically not allowed to have happened.

According to official debate rules, no opening statements are allowed. Additionally, candidates may have 60 seconds to answer questions and 30 seconds to respond to follow-ups. However, her remarks was not in response to a question nor was it a follow-up. Instead, it was an outburst that interrupted another candidate who was giving a response. Instances like this happened multiple times that evening.

According to recently released data by the Federal Election Commission, Harris also received financial support from NBC Universal and its parent company Comcast. At least 12 executives from both companies donated to her campaign in the months leading up to the debate. Three of those donors help over see NBC, while two donors from Comcast are in charge of the company’s political advertising sales. This has raised concerns of a possible conflict of interest and even network collusion.”

  4. Chris says:

That feeling of disgust in your stomach is actually driven by your refusal to accept the facts about Trump’s character, facts that have been obvious since long before he ran for president, and have been articulated not just by me, but by rational conservatives such as Jonah Goldberg, Dr. Thomas Sowell, David French, John McCain, Mitt Romney, S.E. Cupp, and hundreds of others. Facts do not care about your feelings, MCS. This is a man who once again lied the other day about helping clear rubble at Ground Zero. In reality, he was bragging on TV about having the tallest building in NYC after the towers fell. People who care about other people don’t do this.

  5. Peggy says:

Oh, this is soooo much fun.

Cummings turns out to be a racist for his own remarks about the people who live in his district. Instead of just sitting in congress complaining about the problems in HIS district he should have solved all of the problems for the people he’s supposed to represent.

“Democrat Rep. Elijah Cummings in 1999: “This morning I left my community of Baltimore, a DRUG INFESTED area” where people are “walking around like zombies.”

    Must watch video.
    https://www.dailywire.com/news/50103/watch-video-emerges-elijah-cummings-calling-ryan-saavedra

    • Chris says:

How does this change the fact that Trump only uses the term “infested” to describe areas that are predominately people of color?

      • More Common Sense says:

Is that all you’ve got Chris? The use of the word “infested”? The same word that Cummings used to describe Baltimore in 1999. Is that all you have?

The fact of the matter is Trump is calling attention to the poor living conditions of many people living in inner city areas. These areas have high crime rates because the local government does nothing about the crime. These areas are dirty and “infested” with vermin because the garbage and sewage are not cleaned from the streets by the local authorities. The city government doesn’t deal with abandoned buildings that become headquarters for drug dealers to recruit the youth of the areas.

These areas are what they are because local government refuses to deal with the issues. Money is spent but not spent on solutions. That is why these areas are “infested”. Not because the majority are black.

It is people like Cummings and the former Mayors of Baltimore (one of which is on the run from the FBI) that are responsible for the “infestation”. They are the ones that are victimizing the people that live in these areas. Why aren’t you calling them racist. They are the ones that keep people living in this squalor. If a comment about Baltimore being a bad area to live is racist because the majority of people living there are black why are the people in the local government not racist for the neglect that that black majority. You should be happy that Trump is drawing attention to the plight of the people in these neighborhoods. This is how things get fixed. But all you can do is twist it to be Trump racism.

This is total misdirection to draw attention away from the fact that these cities are run by Democrats. And by drawing attention away from what is happening you and the other people yelling racism are impeding the discussion of how we fix these issues. The Left is so busy declaring everything racist that they are not doing anything to improve anything.

        • Peggy says:

Also, the cities, like Baltimore, won’t/don’t deal with their housing problems because they don’t want to lose the property tax revenues. As little as it may be for one property it would be a sizable amount for thousands. If the city/county/state condemned them and took ownership of the property they would also be held responsible for repairs, demolition and legal liabilities if someone got hurt etc.

The local governments win, while the people loose.

        • Chris says:

“Is that all you’ve got Chris? The use of the word “infested”? The same word that Cummings used to describe Baltimore in 1999. Is that all you have?”

No, that’s not all I have. I also have Trump saying that congresswomen of color who were born here should go back to their own countries. I have his statement that Jen Bush has to like illegals because his wife is Mexican. I have his statements that Judge Curiel should recuse himself from a case involving Trump’s corruption because he is Mexican. I have his racist birther lies, an attempt to paint the first black president as a scary foreigner. I have his many, many claims of a Hispanic “invasion” of criminals and rapists that were echoed in the racist El Paso killer’s manifesto. I have his racist lies about thousands of Arab Muslims celebrating 9/11 in New Jersey. I have his bigoted call to ban all Arab Muslims from immigrating to this country, before he softened that stance and molded it into the travel ban. I have his demands that the Central Park Five be executed and his refusal to apologize years after they were exonerated. I have his refusal to rent to black tenants in the 70s. I have his referring to a black supporter as “my African-American.” I have him calling Kaepernick a “son of a bitch” that should be fired for protesting injustice against blacks. I have his referring to Netanyahu as “your prime minister” to a group of American Jews. I have his constant retweeting of open white nationalists.

You have all this, too. You just don’t care.

          • Post Scripts says:

“I also have Trump saying that congresswomen of color who were born here should go back to their own countries.” Now hold on just a second, that’s not what he said or meant. He said of these socialist trouble-makers we’ve come to know as the squad, as he was weighing in on friction between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and these four liberal Democrats, Trump referred to ” Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen” in his tweets, saying they should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”

“So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who (families) originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run,” the president wrote. Okay, a poorly worded and stupid comment, I grant you. It was not meant to single out the women of color in Congress, he was singling out four jackasses, but he did it stupidly.

This is the problem with the way Trump talks, he gives the opposition ammunition every time he tweets. We all know what he meant. It doesn’t take a great wit to change his words just slightly and get a whole new meaning. Trump is a sucker that way. But, that’s an age old practice and its currently just part of the disinformation campaign to oust Trump.

          • Chris says:

Jack, none of that changes the fact that Trump told four women of color who were born here to go back to their own countries. It just shows that you agree with the reasoning for why they should go back to their own countries. I am not going to debate you when you try to argue that telling people of color to go back to their own countries—for any reason—isn’t racist. That argument is so historically ignorant, so dependent on a bubble where you don’t listen to POC or their experiences, that it is worthy only of ridicule. Telling people of color to go back to their own countries is racist. Period. Every POC who has ever been told this knows this. You have never been told this, ever. So why don’t you listen to people who have?

      • Peggy says:

You’re soooo funny, Chris. Guess you missed this since you only get your info from the biased left-wing media that lies by omission all of the time.

        Must watch Cummings’ video.

Resurfaced video shows Elijah Cummings calling Baltimore ‘drug infested,’ likening residents to ‘zombies’:

      • Peggy says:

        Wrong again, Chris!

You really need to start supporting your statements with facts instead of bullying and lying to present your arguments.

Guess what? Last year Trump said New Hampshire was ‘drug infested’ and it has the third highest white population in the country, at a 94%

        —-

Trump Calls New Hampshire a ‘Drug-Infested Den,’ Stoking Outrage:

One of the Whitest States in America Wants More Minorities:
“New Hampshire is the third-whitest state in the country (94 percent) following only its neighbors Vermont and Maine (both 95 percent), according to U.S. Census Bureau data. Demographic trends that changed the face of much of the country over the last century largely passed the region by, and now state officials, business leaders, and community activists see that reality as an existential threat.”

Also, remember this information was made public when some low-life WH scum leaked Trump’s phone conversation with Mexico to the public.

          https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-08-03/new-hampshire-drug-infested-den-trump-phone-call-transcripts-leaked

          • Chris says:

So he calls majority white cities infested in private, but constantly calls majority black cities infested in public. Not the amazing rebuttal you think it is.

But hey, here’s a thought: maybe the President of the United States shouldn’t be trashing American cities to foreign leaders or to the American public at all. Wasn’t this the guy who just told members of Congress they should love it or leave it? That any criticism of any part of this country is equivalent to hating America? Ah, but I forget—cities aren’t “real America.” Trump would never talk about rural areas struggling with the opioid crisis this way. Whether that’s playing on the right’s cultural resentment or the fact that cities are more likely to be heavily populated by minorities, it’s WRONG, unpresidential, and un-American. “Not technically racist if you don’t believe in dogwhistles” is literally the lowest standard imaginable. Expect better from your president.

        • Chris says:

Peggy, here’s the full quote you’re referring to:

And we have the drug lords in Mexico that are knocking the hell out of our country. They are sending drugs to Chicago, Los Angeles, and to New York. Up in New Hampshire – I won New Hampshire because New Hampshire is a drug-infested den – is coming from the southern border. So we have a lot of problems with Mexico farther than the economic problem. We are becoming a drug-addicted nation and most the drugs are coming from Mexico or certainly from the southern border. But I will say this—you have that problem too. You have some pretty tough hombres in Mexico that you may need help with, and we are willing to help you with that big-league. — Donald Trump to Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto

This is supposed to prove that the president’s use of “infested” has no racial connotations? The call in which he blames Mexico and Mexican immigrants for the “infestation” of drugs in New Hampshire? Wow. Even your rebuttals support my arguments.

Again: this is not genuine sadness over the conditions in Baltimore or compassion for people who live there. This is gleeful humiliation of a political rival. That is all Trump knows. It is his only true joy. One does not need to be a mind reader to understand this. One must only read the man’s tweets and listen to the words he says. Two things that I know even many Republicans would prefer not to do, because those words are often genuinely awful. But you must confront reality. This is not a uniter or a leader. Here, let me help: imagine if Obama said it.
