British SAS Sniper Takes Out ISIS Beheader

Posted by Tina

Sometimes you just have to cheer! An eight year old boy and his father were saved from a brutal death sentence by a British sniper who also took out the terrorists companions in the process. The boy and his father were part of the minority Shia sect.

Note there were no silly rules of engagement discouraging or preventing the crack shot from firing.

Well, at least he didn’t try to capture them and subject them to water boarding. That would have been an outrage.

  2. Post Scripts says:

Great, justice served. But, I was hoping this was jihadi John. I know we’re looking for him.

  3. Tina says:

Pie you supplied my second giggle for the night. Thanks!

  4. Harold says:

That sniper solved so many issues, with just a few pulls of the trigger.

Took out the companions as well did he, bloody good work and as Post #2 said “Justice served”

Tina: “Note there were no silly rules of engagement discouraging or preventing the crack shot from firing.”

I’m not sure what this sentence means. Certainly the sniper was acting under some rules of engagement, no? What were they? How do they differ from American rules of engagement? What American rules of engagement would have kept a sniper from firing?

  6. Tina says:

Apparently Chris hasn’t been reading this blog thoroughly.

We have reported on the restrictive rules of engagement for American soldiers under Obama.

The remark was meant to be snide…you figure it out.

  7. Chris says:

I’m sorry, but I don’t recall any explanation on this blog of any specific rules of engagement that would have stopped an American sniper from firing in this type of situation.

Given the defensiveness of your reply, I’m guessing you can’t either.

  8. Tina says:

Chris I guess the sarcasm in my comment escaped you.

The rules of engagement were changed and the changes cost lives. See here:

The rules of engagement (ROE) put into place in 2009 and the early part of 2010 limited air and artillery strikes in the name of preventing civilian casualties, and at times called upon soldiers to restrain from firing their weapons. The report in the Washington Times indicates that, upon approaching Taliban fighters, a ground unit would often have to convince a remote commander that the threat was armed before engaging.

“In Afghanistan, the [rules of engagement] that were put in place in 2009 and 2010 have created a hesitation and confusion for our war fighters,” Wayne Simmons, a retired US intelligence officer who worked at NATO headquarters in Kabul under McChrystal and Petraeus, told the Times.

“It is no accident nor a coincidence that from January 2009 to August of 2010, coinciding with the Obama/McChrystal radical change of the ROE, casualties more than doubled,” Simmons went on. “The carnage will certainly continue as the already fragile and ineffective [rules] have been further weakened by the Obama administration as if they were playground rules.”

US troop strength more than doubled from 40,000 to 85,000 military personnel between 2008 and 2010, the first full year of the surge. Despite that influx 499 Americans were killed in 2010, three times the 2008 total and roughly five times the 2007 death toll.

Also in the movie American Sniper one of the things that was made clear was that if the sniper took out a civilian or innocent bystander he could be prosecuted.

Our soldiers have enough stress without asking them to be careful to a ridiculous degree.

See also here for more recent examples.

    Gotta go!
