ERROR EMAIL – Butte County Republican Party Cancels Lincoln Day Dinner – Not True

I just received an email that claims the local  GOP has cancelled their Lincoln Day dinner, but with no explanation and it was signed merely the Face Book Team.  Very suspicious, so I am checking into it to see if the BCRP facebook site has been hacked.   The local GOP site listed no new up coming events.   More to follow.  – Jack

UPDATE: Steve Thompson, last year’s GOP Chair, advises this was a glitch in the facebook system and the Lincoln Day dinner is still on. The guest speaker is Jim Bruelte, former Assembly Speaker. Mr. Bruelte reminds me Gov. Chris Christie in a number of ways. Should be a good program.

UK Study: “Patients given smokers’ lungs are just as likely to survive”

Posted by Tina

What? Wait, wait, back up a minute.

Americans have been bombarded with studies for decades. The popular trend started about the time Ralph Nader formed a group to warn us of the dangers we faced from our cars and food and pesticides and coffee. Before long we were hearing about the benefits of various products as well…one week coffee was bad for you but the next thing you know it guards against heart disease. Will we ever be allowed to just live our own lives in peace?

This new study has to be the most incredible I’ve ever heard. It comes to us via the Daily Mail in the UK:

Since 2007, 237 lung transplants have been carried out and 90 per cent of them were double-lung transplants.

In total, 53 per cent were given lungs from non-smokers, while 29 per cent got lungs from donors who smoked for less than 20 years and 18 per cent were given the lungs of people who smoked 20 or more a day for at least 20 years.

One-year and three-year survival rates were about the same for all three groups.

Non-smokers performed relatively poorly in the short term with 77.7 per cent of transplant patients surviving one year compared to 90.8 per cent with smokers’ lungs. There was no significant difference in the overall effectiveness of the lungs, time spent in intensive care and in hospital.

Follow the link to see comparison photo’s of the clean lungs vs the smoker lungs. (It might make you quit if you’re a smoker).

I don’t know what to think of the study…except that it shocked me to discover the medical field would even consider using smokers lungs in a transplant!

Do they do this in America too?

By golly, they do!

Using lung transplants from heavy smokers may sound like a cruel joke, but a new study finds that organs taken from people who puffed a pack a day for more than 20 years are likely safe.

What’s more, the analysis of lung transplant data from the U.S. between 2005 and 2011 confirms what transplant experts say they already know: For some patients on a crowded organ waiting list, lungs from smokers are better than none.

“I think people are grateful just to have a shot at getting lungs,” said Dr. Sharven Taghavi, a cardiovascular surgical resident at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, who led the new study.

Let’s face it, Americans have been bullied for the last thirty years or so about smoking. Our courts have indulged lawsuits that never should have seen the light of day. And citizens have been tolerant and cooperative for the most part. But we can be certain that the zealots will never stop…some are advcating the banning od smoking in ones own home.

In other studies we’ve been “informed” till we’re made dizzy trying to figure out what’s safe to eat or what will cause high blood pressure and heart disease. Who knows how much of what we are told is actually true or necessary. It’s particularly difficult since so much of what we have been told soon conflicts with the latest study…all by so-called experts in their field.

John Dale Dunn, MD, JD, writes a book review of “Please Don’t Poop in My Salad”. His piece, titled, “The Truth About Smoking” cites Joseph Bast:

…we take plenty of risks every day—driving fast, laughing too loudly, drinking too much, dancing, participating in sports, camping or climbing in the wilderness, and walking on slippery bathroom floors at home. Bast points out that a good many fears arise nowadays because we are so safe and comfortable that we are left to worry about phantom risks—and we have too many fat and happy academics, lawyers, and advocacy groups who make a good living off our anxieties and worries.

As a result of the phantom fears these people generate, too many politicians get elected by promising to do something, and they create too many agencies where people need to do something to keep themselves afloat.

No truer words have ever been spoken. We spend millions of dollars to pay people every year just to scare us silly and worry us to death.

Dunn warns that the next front is the war on fat and he has a point. This time we will be bullied and puished with higher insurance premiums.

My sweet little grandma was a chubby lady for all the days I knew her; she lived to see 99.5 years and didn’t worry a day about the effects of smoking, drinking coffee, pesticides, the benefits/concerns about oatmeal, butter vs margarine, or the extra pounds she definitely carried on her frame…she lived her life and she lived it in moderation. I envy her the peace of mind she experience just because she was not constantly bombarded with information or bullied about how she lived her life.

Regarding lungs and smoking Dale also notes:

…a study of British physicians who smoked less than ten cigarettes a day showed they lived longer than nonsmokers. Cigarette smoke in moderation appears to be good for preventing dementia, colitis, and family quarrels, and it steadies the nerves.

I don’t smoke, although I did for a brief while in my youth when most people did smoke. I also agree, we’d all be better off by adopting moderation in our daily habits. But I do not agree that small cadres of manic busy bodies should hold sway over every choice we make, over how our cereal boxes are labeled, or whether we should be consuming meat in our diets. I don’t want to be lectured endlessly on the angers of smoking only to find out that smokers lungs are used by physicians in transplants. I don’t want to be denied a job because some nutty green has bullied his radical opinion into the mainstream.

So tell me, where do I go to get some relief from the scare mongers and fabricators who make millions of dollars yearly by telling wild stories, bringing bogus lawsuits, and churning up unnecessary fears?

Super Bowl Blow Out Almost as Bad as in 1989

by Jack

Seattle’s defense proved too much for the Bronc’s. Between 37 year old Peyton Manning’s disappointing performance and Seattle’s remarkble plays, including a Denver kickoff that turned into a Seattle touch down, the Bronc’s never had a chance. They hadn’t even got on the board until the 3rd quarter and by then it was already 30 to zip. Manning’s performance all year has been amazing, especially considering his four neck surgeries, but tonight he just looked overwhelmed and Denver just couldn’t catch a break. This lopsided loser reminded me of another Bronco’s Super Bowl game back in 1989 when San Francisco demolished the Bronc’s 55 to 10. Final score Seattle 43 to Denver’s 8. Many of us felt the best part of this game was the half-time performance by Bruno Mars.

Gibson Guitars Has the Last Laugh

Posted by Tina

You may recall the incredible abuse of power evidenced in the armed invasion of the Gibson Guitar Company by our government. The story was one of the first indications that this administration would abuse its powers to target and punish political opponents.

In 2011 the Justice Department conducted a raid on the Tennessee company and confiscated wood that they claimed had been brought into the company illegally. In the weeks and months that followed we discovered that the owner of Gibson had been a Republican donor and that the two other American guitar makers who imported the same wood, but supported Democrats, had not been similarly targeted. We also learned that fighting the false charges cost the company two and one-half million dollars in legal fees as well as a $300,000.00 fine to get the matter put behind them…not to mention the loss of work endured by the companies employees. After all was said and done the materials were returned to Gibson guitars.

This blatant taking of private property and of harassment of an American citizen who donated to the Presidents political “enemies” is more than despicable…it is “irresponsible” and “unpatriotic!”

In fact this abuse of power was downright un-American!

But people of the right persuasion are known for taking things in stride and finding creative ways to remove the bitter taste that follows disgusting encounters with the nastier radical elements of the left. We take that energy and channel it in creative and productive ways. Gibson is no exception. They took the wood that was returned to them, their own legally obtained property, and fashioned a it into a special edition guitar:

Gibson took that wood and made it into the Government Series II Les Paul. These special edition guitars are hot stamped in gold with the Government Series graphic, which is an American bald eagle holding a Gibson guitar neck. It is an admirable statement of defiance of an abusive government and a refusal of a historic American company to be intimidated.

Hurray for Gibson Guitars…may they forever remain the top guitar maker in America if not the world!

I’ll bet these guys will continue to support Gibson Guitar…I do too.

Immigration Reform: Will Our Leaders Properly Consider the Importance of American Unity?

Thanks to Pie for bringing the thoughts of Richard D. Lamm to our attention in comments. The ideas put forth by Lamm, former Governor of Colorado, as to how our nation could easily fall have been shared by a number of people.

I hope our readers will follow the link and give considerable thought to Lamm’s warnings. Our leaders will be making important decisions in the coming decade that could very well make the difference between failure and success for our Republic. Will they heed the warnings of history and enact legislation and regulations that support American unity or will we embrace widespread diversity and become a nation divided on the road to destruction?

Thanks to World Net Daily for the transcript from which I will excerpt key points. Visit Speakers Platform to learn more about Richard D. Lamm who began his provocative talk with the following:

I have a secret plan to destroy America. If you believe, as many do, that America is too smug, too white bread, too self-satisfied, too rich, let’s destroy America. It is not that hard to do. History shows that nations are more fragile than their citizens think. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and they all fall, and that “an autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.”

What followed was a six point plan which Lamm describes in detail. A short list is enough to peak interest and perhaps start a conversation on Post Scripts? See what you think about the basics of the plan to destroy America.

1. Make America a bilingual-bicultural country.

2. Invent “multiculturalism” and encourage immigrants to maintain their own culture.

3. Celebrate diversity rather than unity.

4. Make our fastest-growing demographic group the least educated…add a second underclass, un-assimilated, undereducated and antagonistic to our population…have this second underclass have a 50 percent dropout rate from school.

5. Get the big foundations and big business to give these efforts lots of money. Invest in ethnic identity…establish the cult of victimology…(encourage) minorities to think their lack of success was all the fault of the majority…start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population.

6. Establish dual citizenship and promote divided loyalties…”celebrate diversity…a wonderfully seductive word (that) stresses differences rather than commonalities.

Whether we have openly advocated for these key ingredients in the culture, or have mindlessly stumbled upon them thinking we were just being nice, it would be wise to stop and take some time to consider how better to assimilate the people who come to America that we may continue not just to enjoy the melting pot but to appreciate and celebrate that which unites us as a nation of free men and women. The fate of our nation depends on our of the value of freedom and understanding that a nation divided will not stand.

Our leaders are contemplating legislation to reform our immigration laws. What should they be incorporating into the plans being discussed so that American unity, as well as security and defense, will be foremost in new legislation?

Pro Hillary Pac: “Fat Cats” Pony Up; is it a Conspiracy?

Posted by Tina

Hillary Clinto hasn’t officially declared that she will run for President in the 2016 election but if fat cat contributors are any indication, she’ll be loaded for bear when she finally makes the announcement. Politico reports:

A pro-Hillary Clinton super PAC named several prominent Democratic donors on Friday in its push to build support for the former secretary of state to run for president in 2016.

Wal-Mart scion Alice Walton, financiers George and Robert Soros and the law firm of liberal megadonors Steve and Amber Mostyn all cut $25,000 checks to Ready for Hillary last year, the super PAC said in a public filing.

The filing paints a fuller picture of the people who helped the super PAC raise more than $4 million in 2013, well ahead of a presidential race that Clinton appears to be eyeing but has not publicly committed to joining after her failed bid in 2008.

Other donors who gave the maximum $25,000 accepted by the super PAC included Bill Rudin, a Clinton bundler in 2008; Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis, a former U.S. ambassador to Hungary under Clinton; and Jon Stryker, a billionaire philanthropist.

Silda Wall, an investor who recently filed for divorce with former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, also made a contribution. So did Lynn Cutler, Ann Lewis and Lanny Davis, former aides in the Bill Clinton White House; Terry Shumaker, a New Hampshire operative; and the campaign of New York Rep. Carolyn Maloney.

“Homeland” producer Howard Gordon, financier Thomas Lee, psychologist Gail Furman and longtime Democratic donor Elaine Schuster also chipped in.

Millionaires and billionairs and former croney bears…OH MY!

The Washington Post reports that a Post/ABC poll indicates Hillary is the “biggest frontrunner”…ever…whatever that means:

Hillary Rodham Clinton’s 61-point edge over Joe Biden in new Washington Post-ABC News polling makes her the single biggest frontrunner for a Democratic presidential nomination in the history of the poll, an affirmation of the conventional wisdom that the nomination is hers for the taking.

The Post is joining fat cat billionaires in promoting Hillary if they left Elizabeth Warren’s name out of the poll. According to another poll taken prior to the last election she was favored among progressives in the party:

A survey of attendees at this week’s Take Back the American Dream conference in Washington, D.C. revealed that 59 percent of them want a female president in 2016.

Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren edged out Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as the top pick for the next Democratic presidential nominee by a margin of 32 to 27 percent, according to end-of-conference straw poll results released on Wednesday.

What’s a radical progressive to do?

Which extremist will grab the prize…the fat cat former First Lady with billionaire backing or the grass roots underdog favorite?

Will the voices that now deride participation by the Koch brothers issue venomous accusations about Soros and WalMart money…will their filthy lucre be seen as an extremist bid to “take over the country”?

Will the millions spent by Soros through his Tides Foundation and countless leftist “nonprofits” (wink wink) now be derided as part of the conspiracy?

Will unions send protesters out to harass and demean Alice Walton…or will she get a pass now that a family member of the WalMart fortune is contributing to the favored Democrat candidate?

Keystone Get’s a Go?

Posted by Tina

A recently released report issued by the State Department gave the Keystone Pipeline project clearance to move forward. Some Democrats are reportedly pressuring President Obama to act quickly to approve the project:

“Today’s Environmental Impact Statement confirms what Alaskans already know — there are ways to safely and responsibly diversify our domestic energy supply,” said Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska. “Move this project forward.”

Begich also said he will continue to “demand” that Obama approve the $7 billion pipeline project while reminding him that development in Alaska’s Arctic Ocean and National Petroleum Reserve is critical in securing the county’s energy independence from foreign countries.

He was joined Friday by Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu in calling on Obama to approve the project, proposed back in 2010.

“This new study underscores what has been said all along about Keystone XL Pipeline: It’s time to build,” Landrieu said.

According to official sources the study indicates that the pipeline would have negligable impact on the environment:

WASHINGTON — A long-awaited environmental review of the Keystone XL pipeline released Friday by the State Department found the project would have a negligible impact on climate change, bolstering the case for the controversial project as it heads to the White House for a decision on its construction.

During a sweeping speech on climate change last June, President Obama said his main criterion for approving the pipeline was that it not significantly worsen the problem of carbon pollution.

I wish for once that one of these environmental studies would bother to include in their findings the incredible investment in innovation and cash being made by oil companies to reduce carbon emissions and make sure the production and delivery of oil is clean and safe:

According to a new study commissioned by the American Petroleum Institute, U.S. oil and natural gas companies spent $81 billion on greenhouse gas technologies from 2000 and 2012. During the same time period, the federal government invested $80 billion in carbon-cutting technology, and $91 billion was spent by all other industries combined. … During the 12-year period covered by the report, the oil and gas industry spent some $44.9 billion on advanced end-use technologies, including carbon capture and storage initiatives.

The American people have been inundated with negative, politically motivated, divisive reporting on environmental issues. Scare tactics are substituted for information given to the public and one sided accusations about the oil industry are used to demonize an industry that has been productive in making the fuels we need safer and cleaner for the environment. Americans used to approach problems with a sense of shared enthusiasm for what is possible and we accomplished great things together by remaining united as Americans.. When a political party takes an issue and uses it to divide the country for its own power the best interests of the people are denied. Bottom line, this project will continue to be delayed unless the President is willing to reverse course.

Unfortunately (unbelievably) for those Americans who would be in line to get the jobs this safe project would produce, this particular Environmental Impact study doesn’t represent the final hurdle. Secretary Kerry has indicated it will take weeks for the study to be evaluated. Who knows what the various departments will “find” in the 90 day window the law allows. The public concurrently has 30 days in which to comment. Now is the time to make those calls.

Final approval or denial is in the hands of the President. Although Democrats up for election in highly contentious battles are pressuring the president to move forward many believe he will delay his decision until after the November elections.

As more than one commentator has pointed out, our parents and grandparents fought WWII in less time than it has taken for politicians to move forward on this project. Politicians are not serving the people; they are serving special interest groups and political donors.

Comparing the Spending of Two Royal Families and Their Financial Struggles

by Jack

It’s seems that England’s royal family has hit on hard times, as reflected by their nation’s economic downturn since the Great Recession. The reserve coffers set aside for the royals to pay for incidentals, such as the salaries of 437 people on staff to do their bidding is down to a paltry one million pounds or 1.64 million dollars. A scant two decades ago those same coffers contained over 32 million pounds.

Yes, these are indeed hard times for England’s royals and for the Brits in general. Castle roofs are leaking and require constant patching to protect priceless works of art. Asbestos insulation must be removed from three castles and it’s reported the boilers on several of their retreats are over 60 years old, which adds more cost to their enormous monthly energy bills. This dire financial picture has royals forced to consider opening some of their homes to the public to offset their upkeep and repair costs. The mere thought of commoners traipsing down their hallowed halls has some of them clutching their pearls and saying, “Why the very thought…”, yet it is their new reality.

Times are tough and while the royals of England seek creative ways increase their revenue stream to match increasing expenses, across the big pond America’s royal family has no such problem. Yes, American’s have been hard hit by the same recession, but it did not extend to the White House. That 1.6 million bucks the English royals languish over wouldn’t even cover the cost Michelle’s 50th birthday party, where she joked about letting the common folk eat cake.

Much to the chagrin of many American commoners forced to pay for their royal’s unbridled extravagance, the bills keep rolling in. For example, the costs of using three jumbo jets and the renting of an entire floor at a 5obama-airforceone-hawaii star hotel on Waikiki in Honolulu exceeded the royals staff budget for one year by a factor of three! The cost’s of the Obama’s Africa good will visit (aka vacation) included several hundred of her closest friends (aka political cronies) cost the same taxpayers in excess of $100 million. But, then again the Obama’s don’t travel light. The 7 day trip to Africa included by hundreds of Secret Service agents and staff, which stack up transportation and accommodation costs. It was necessary to use military cargo planes to haul 56 vehicles, including 14 limousines and three trucks loaded with bulletproof glass to cover the windows of the hotels where the Obama’s will stay. In addition US fighter jets flew above the first family to provide round the clock protection.

The comparative spending by America’s royal family with England’s clearly shows their is no comparison. England’s royal spending is but a pittance compared to ours. When it comes to living high off the little people, no matter what their economic plight might be, nobody does it better than the Obama’s! But, you’re glad to pay their bills for the same reason England’s kept the Tudor family on Welfare for the last 500 years….it’s called deification, assigning God-like status to those who sit on the throne of power. It’s good to be the King..er, President…whatever.

Chicago Activist Speak Out on SOTU: “Just Quit”

Posted by Tina

Two groups of activists from Chicago were not very impressed by the President’s State of the Union address. See also here.

The groups believe the president has not done anything to improve conditions for them. One man said the president should just resign:

According to J.R. Flemming, a member of Chicago’s anti-eviction campaign, the speech was the “same old, same old” and “a bunch of talk and rhetoric to give favor to a dying economy in America.”

“And the reason why our economy is dying is the president’s approach is always to place blame,” he continued. “It’s not the 1 percent problem, it’s not the 99 percent problem, it’s an American problem. And the problem is patronage, nepotism and cronyism.”

Obama has been “more hurtful to the black race than he has been helpful,” added Voices of Ex-Offenders (V.O.T.E.) founder Joe Watkins. “But those of us at the bottom of the ladder don’t accept that.”

“Just quit,” Mark Carter added, “because if this is what you call helping us, then just stop helping us.

Video is available at the bottom of the article.
