· You didn’t build that!

· I will restore trust in Government.

· The Cambridge cops acted stupidly.

· The public will have 5 days to look at every bill that lands on my desk

· It’s not my red line – it is the world’s red line.

· Whistle blowers will be protected in my administration.

· We got back every dime we used to rescue the banks and auto companies, with interest.

· I am not spying on American citizens.

· Obama Care will be good for America.

· You can keep your family doctor.

· Premiums will be lowered by $2500.

· If you like it, you can keep your current healthcare plan.

· It’s just like shopping at Amazon.

· I knew nothing about “Fast and Furious” gunrunning to Mexican drug cartels.

· I knew nothing about IRS targeting conservative groups.

· I knew nothing about what happened in Benghazi.

· I have never known my uncle from Kenya who is in the country illegally and that was arrested and told to leave the country over 20 years ago.

· And, I have never lived with that uncle. He finally admitted (12-05-2013) that he DID know his uncle and that he DID live with him.

And the biggest one of all:

· “I, Barrack Hussein Obama, pledge to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.”

I believe we have a winner!

UPDATE – Changes Made to Painting

Unfortunately, the camera and the glare from lights takes away from the colors. Color is 100% better in person, especially the blacks on the sea wall. Notice the new bell tower? This made the tower taller and I took some of the lean out. Also notice the people on the sea wall? (This is a large painting, 24-X-36.)

I tried to employ as many of your corrections as I could and I am a lot more satisfied with the one now. What do you think? Feel free to be critical! -jack

Homeless Population Still Too Large for Chico

by Jack

Despite the creation of the Homeless Ambassadors (thanks to the liberals on the Homeless Task Force) now walking around downtown politely asking bums not to urinate and poop in public places, the bad behavior continues. They’ve also tried to reason with them not to scatter dumpster trash, don’t abandon clothing and junk wherever you feel like it. Don’t swipe our grocery shopping carts, they are not luggage carriers. Please don’t do drugs and alcohol until you can’t stand up. We don’t want you sleeping on the sidewalks. They ask them not to molest shoppers in the downtown…they ask a lot of things, but it’s still going on.

They walk into coffee shops bumming change or asking for a free cup of coffee, in most places this is against the house rules, but few will complain…our liberals think that’s uncool. These bums often look like walking petri dishes while hovering around the entrances to shops, smoking thier cigarettes and sipping their free coffee.

Sure isn’t very appealing to see a lice infested bum walk out of the bathroom as you enter. I’ve seen customers turn around and walk away..probably going to wait until they get home, but that’s sad. Customer’s shouldn’t be intimidated by these bums. And then I think about the poor kids that must clean to bathrooms at McDonald’s after the bums use it. This is one of the many haunts for bums and they’re always just hanging around and smoking or drinking…they always seem to have cigaretters and booz, theft I guess.

I was standing in line at Safeway when a bum walks up behind me and starts yelling at the cashier who was returning change to a customer, “Hey Sir! Sir! Sir! Where’s the nearest ATM machine? The cashier didn’t look his way and he started to ask again…then I turned around to him and said, “Hey he’s with a customer.” But, he didn’t wait. “Sir! Where’s the nearest ATM machine?” This time the clerk replied,”There’s a bank right outside, across the parking lot” and he pointed the direction. Obviously this guy wasn’t too observant or too bright or too polite. My guess, he was another new obnoxious arrival.

Welcome to Chico Mr. Bum, we love you to see you here. We’ve got plenty of citizens who will give you money, buy you food, buy you booze and we’ve got lots of free beds at the missions too. There’s more food and more clothes for you there. You can wear donated clothes and toss them away when the start to stink. Oh, and the ambulance service here is great too. You get a fast ride to the E-R every time you get drunk and nobody minds. Because we love you and we’re so happy you are here! We love you taking our money…using up our resources…peeing on our doorsteps, sleeping in the park…

Obama SOTU Price Tag: $40 Billion

Posted by Tina

The National Taxpayers Union Foundation has scored proposals made by the President in his State of the Union address and found that, if enacted into law, they would cost the America taxpayers an additional $40 billion a year, adding to the already high budget and deficit spending. Unfortunately the savings he suggested only amounted to “one item” against “12 proposals to increase outlays and 16 with costs that could not be quantified.” Immigration reform won the top dollar amount at $20.2 billion annually followed by an extention of unemployment insurance for $12.8 billion a year.

The President talks a big game. He says he’s focused on the economy and job creation. But his record and proposals suggest his only agenda is growing the power and expense of big government. The bottom line for all citizens is that the presidents ideas will have an adverse effect on the economy and blunt job creation. The President has betrayed the hopes of the unemployed and underemployed. He has doubled down on efforts to discourage growth:

Brady noted that although the NTUF study does not account for revenue impacts, the President’s call for heavier tax burdens, especially on the energy sector, would adversely affect taxpayers as well. “In coming weeks the White House will put a finer point on both its tax and spending plans with the release of the Fiscal Year 2015 budget,” he concluded. “How sharply this point will hit is on the minds of many taxpayers right now.”

Words are meaningless unless what follows is consistent with what has been articulated. The President has been promising to focus on the econoy and jobs since he was first elected but little progress has been made, in fact we are losong ground. The President admitted as much when he said, “The cold, hard fact is that even in the midst of recovery, too many Americans are working more than ever just to get by, let alone get ahead. And too many still aren’t working at all,” Obama said. “Our job is to reverse these trends.”

And you have not performed well, sir.

January’s jobs report is a sad reflection of the President’s true agenda:

The economy added fewer jobs than expected last month, and more Americans have stopped looking for work — a disappointing development that comes as many economists have expressed optimism that the economic recovery is gaining momentum.

The Labor Department reported on Friday that the economy added 74,000 jobs in December while unemployment fell to 6.7 percent. …

…the drop in December was mostly the result of more people leaving the labor force. The labor force participation rate fell last month from 63 percent to 62.8 percent. A shrinking labor force can be attributed to people no longer looking for jobs because they are discouraged by their prospects of finding work.

The President has spent five years blowing smoke and selling pipe dreams as a diversion. adding another $40 billion to deficit spending will do nothing to create jobs. If the President were sincere his proposals would have included measures that prioritize issues placing job growth first. He would propose ways to shrink the size of government and create tax policy that encourages investment, growth, and the creation of JOBS.

Only 33 million people, 10% of the population bothered to tuned in to the Presidents SOTU address, a statistic that shows the people have lost faith in the President’s words and promises. His speech indicates that he does not really care. Today he’s back on the campaign trail spinning tails and telling lies.

New Painting 29 January 2014

by Jack    As always, your critical advise is most welcome.   This is done in acrylic on canvas.  I finished it Wed.   This was an experiment in perspective.    The scene is supposed to be an Italian village with homes dotting the hills in the background.  The homes in the front are built behind a sea wall.

Thanks for any input… (feel free to be harsh, this is how I learn).  Lee54

Shocking Conduct by Republican Congressman!

Posted by Jack

Rep. Michael Grimm (R—N.Y.) physically threatened a local news reporter during a heated exchange following an interview after Tuesday night’s State of the Union address, telling the reporter, “I’ll throw you off this f—-g balcony.”

Well, well, well, not the sort of conduct I would expect from a gentleman republican now is it?   Had it been said by a democrat…geez I could totally understand, as in, no story here – move along now, nothing to see here.   Yes, it would have been an underwhelming, non-event, business as usual, and you know it.   But, a republican? lol  Wow.  Of course it’s all over the news because this is a gen-u-winey man-bites-dog kind of story!

Now before I say another word, I’m fully prepared to say, as the always civil man of moderation that I am, I can’t condone such threatening behavior.    But, just between us ol whimpy conservatives, there’s something deep down in my primeval side that is secretly saying,  Yo homie, you should have tossed him over the freaking railing!   Bet a nice drop off the second floor of the Sam Rayburn building would greatly improved the reporters attitude and that the press in general seem to have with republicans.   If we would toss two or three of them over the rails and maybe a cameraman just for good measure we might have a lasting atttitude adjustment with the media.

Great Quote – Sowell Debunks Greed as Cause of Inequality

Posted by Tina

Dr. Thomas Sowell puts the subject of income inequality into focus in an article today at Frontpage Magazine. After pointing to the obvious differences in the abilities and motivations of people he reminds us that the rich don’t get rich by being greedy:

Too many discussions of large fortunes attribute them to “greed” — as if wanting a lot of money is enough to cause other people to hand it over to you. It is a childish idea, when you stop and think about it — but who stops and thinks these days? – Thomas Sowell – “The Inequality Boogeyman

Sowell reminds us of the great achievements that have made men wealthy but also the contribution their efforts brought and continue to bring to all of our lives.

Does it make sense that politicians would take cheap shots directed at these people? Think about it…Bill Gates made a fortune by pursuing money? Or is it that he gave Americans a good product at an affordable price and they freely and happily turned over some of their money to him for it?

My income will never match that of Bill Gates. Is that a problem for me? Heck no…it has nothing to do with how well I do or how much I make. That depends entirely on me, on my abilities and ambitions, on the way that I manage my money, and on the attitudes I have about my chances to improve my circumstances.

Don’t bite on the presidents bait. He is using income inequality to make people envious and covetous. He wants Americans to feel bitterness and envy so they will turn to him for solutions to make their lives better. As we have seen the Presisdent doesn’t have the power to significantly make life better for anyone but he sure can mess things up.

Listen to Dr. Sowell, he’d like to educate you so you too can be more prosperous.

The Republican Response to President Obama’s SOTU

Posted by Tina

You probably missed it, the media certainly isn’t going to give it much coverage, but the official Republican response to Obama’s SOTU speech last night was a good one, delivered by Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington state. Key points followed a reminder of the nation as it has been and could be again…if only:

What an honor it is for me to be with you after the President’s State of the Union.

Tonight we honor America — a nation that has witnessed the greatest rise of freedom and opportunity our world has ever seen.

A nation where we are not defined by our limits, but by our potential. And a nation where a girl who worked at the McDonald’s Drive-Thru to help pay for college can be with you from the United States Capitol.

But the most important moments right now aren’t happening here. They’re not in the Oval Office or in the House Chamber. They’re in your homes.

Kissing your kids goodnight…Figuring out how to pay the bills…Getting ready for tomorrow’s doctor’s visit…Waiting to hear from those you love serving in Afghanistan, or searching for that big job interview.

After all, ‘We the People’ have been the foundation of America since her earliest days — people from all walks of life, and from all corners of the world — people who come to America because here, no challenge is too great and no dream too big.

That’s the genius of America.

Tonight the President made more promises that sound good, but won’t solve the problems actually facing Americans.

We want you to have a better life. The President wants that too.

But we part ways when it comes to how to make that happen.

So tonight I’d like to share a more hopeful, Republican vision…One that empowers you, not the government…

It’s one that champions free markets — and trusts people to make their own decisions, not a government that decides for you.

It helps working families rise above the limits of poverty and protects our most vulnerable.

And it’s one where Washington plays by the same rules that you do.

It’s a vision that is fair and offers the promise of a better future for every American. (continues)

I hope you will take the time to read it.

America’s Economic Boom of the 1920’s

Posted by Tina

Conservatives can’t talk about the success of Ronald Reagan’s tax policy without sending the left into fits of exasperation as they attempt to discredit him with claims that he worked with Congress and accepted a few tax increases. To lefties the fact that he raised taxes a few times proves that he was no conservative. That’s easy to do but only if you ignore the bulk of his legacy and the boom that followed his economic policies. Having an honest discussion about the Reagan Record just isn’t possible. The point of any discussion about Reagan with a lefty isn’t to reach understanding but to demean and discredit both Reagan and his supporters.

Do lefties care that American citizens have opportunity and wealth building opportunities? I have to say it certainly doesn’t appear that they do. After five years of Keynesian policies that grow government debt and bureaucracy and plunges the middle class into poverty one would think they would be open to other options. Unfortunately, the POTUS SOTU tells us there will be no turning in this presidency and there will be no relief for the citizens of America.

The President’s stubborn adherence to policies that don’t work shouldn’t stop weary American’s from learning about policies that have worked and have worked under both Republican and Democrat presidents.

calvin-coolidgeIn an effort to take some of the partisan emotion and contention out of the argument I thought it might be instructive to look at the economic legacy of
Calvin Coolidge:

It is often assumed that broad cuts in income tax rates only benefit the rich and thrust a larger share of the tax burden on the poor. But detailed Internal Revenue Service data show that the across-the-board rate cuts of the early 1920s-including large cuts at the top end-resulted in greater tax payments and a larger tax share paid by those with high incomes. Figure 1 focuses on those earning more than $100,000. As the marginal tax rate on those high-income earners was cut sharply from 60 percent or more (to a maximum of 73 percent) to just 25 percent, taxes paid by that group soared from roughly $300 million to $700 million per year. The share of overall income taxes paid by the group rose from about one-third in the early 1920s to almost two-thirds by the late 1920s. (Note that inflation was virtually zero between 1922 and 1930, thus the tax amounts shown for that period are essentially real changes).

The tax cuts allowed the U.S. economy to grow rapidly during the mid- and late-1920s. Between 1922 and 1929, real gross national product grew at an annual average rate of 4.7 percent and the unemployment rate fell from 6.7 percent to 3.2 percent. The Mellon tax cuts restored incentives to work, save, and invest, and discouraged the use of tax shelters.

The rising tide of strong economic growth lifted all boats. At the top end, total income grew as a result of many more people becoming prosperous, rather than a fixed number of high earners getting greatly richer. For example, between 1922 and 1928, the average income reported on tax returns of those earning more than $100,000 increased 15 percent, but the number of taxpayers in that group almost quadrupled. During the same period, the number of taxpayers earning between $10,000 and $100,000 increased 84 percent, while the number reporting income of less than $10,000 fell. (emphasis mine)

Tax Rate Chart 1920sRead that highlighted segment again…don’t skim and dismiss. The highlighted segment represents the exact opposite of what Americans are experiencing today. Fewer people in poverty, more people moved into the middle class, more people moved from the middle class to the upper class. The American people, set free from intrusive and punishing government control and greed, rolled up their sleeves, took risks, invested and unleashed powerful and dynamic growth. Everybody, including our government’s coffers benefited from their creativity and labors.

Unemployment fell dramatically during the twenties under Coolidge and revenues to government from the upper classes grew dramatically…the rich paid more of their dollars to the government! MORE!

The CATO article is enlightening with sources from the Department of the Treasury, a source that can’t be denied or dismissed as right wing extremist blog talk. If you are willing to be honest this information will blow your liberal socks off!

I must send out a hat tip to Tim Stanley of the Telegraph for a fun and enlightening article with the reference to CATO. Stanley recounts the following story about this President of few words:

A hostess said to him, “You must talk to me Mr Coolidge. I made a bet today that I could get more than two words out of you.” Coolidge replied: “You lose.”

President Obama could lighten up on his agenda and learn from the past as President’s Kennedy, Reagan, Clinton, and yes, even George W. Bush did before him. He could create a tax policy that would get the American people working and prospering again…but as he signaled last night…he won’t.

Unlike President Obama Calvin Coolidge was a man of few words but his economic policies created what they called the “Roaring Twenties!

State of the Union

Posted by Tina

The following are links to the full remarks made by the President and links to remarks made by others.

First the President’s speech from Breitbart-Big Government.

The President began his speech describing citizens that daily contribute by doing their jobs,,,he left out coal miners who don’t have jobs because of his extreme, punishing green agenda policies. It amazes me that he would begin by trying to sound inclusive after five of the most divisive years this nation has seen in a long time in his approach. Other than that there was not much that was new. He plans to award certain people extra goodies and continue to pick winners and losers. He briefly mentioned immigration reform. Took credit for the energy boom for which he had no positive input or policy stake.

The Wall Street Journal featured Ted Cruz addressing “The Imperial Presidency of Barack Obama”. Fellow conservatives will appreciate his thoughtful assessment.

The Hill called the speech a “measured” address in which Obama “flexes executive power” vowing that he “won’t stand still”.

So far there isn’t much that’s been written about the speech…was it that bad…or boring?

Maybe our leftist friends have some positive things to say?
