Questions About Navy Uniform and Basic Training

My Grandson is enlisted in the Navy and deploys for basic in about 6 weeks. I just had some uniform questions if anyone out here happens to know? First. can the old Dixie cup be squared? We did that back in the late 60’s. I wore mine rolled square with wings, but from pictures it doesn’t seem like todays sailors can do that. Is it against regs to roll the top of brim or square it with wings now? Next, have they done away with leggings as used by color guards?

The new Navy service uniform sure looks a lot like the Marine’s uniform, except the pants are black not blue. Looks nice. When would one normally wear the service uniform, for instance is it a Class A?

Last question, how long is basic and does the time depend on whether or not you are going to “A” training. I’ve heard 7-9 weeks.

…a technology firm based in California claims to have the answer – a patch which makes the wearer invisible to the insects.

The Kite Patch uses non-toxic compounds that disrupt mosquitoes’ ability to find people through CO2 for up to 48 hours.

The technology was developed by Olfactor Laboratories and the University of California at Riverside, with backing from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.

Ordinary people, pursuing their interests and others risking through investment think up and deliver the most extraordinary things.

Detroit”s Art May Be Worth Billions! Unclear As To Value of Pensions

When great cities fall to ruin the one thing left that will retain or increase in value is art. In Detroit the art alone is worth a couple of billion:

TORONTO — Estimated to be worth billions, the Detroit Institute of the Arts’ collection may not be protected from creditors after the City filed for bankruptcy on Thursday.

As Detroit’s over 100,000 creditors begin to size-up the DIA’s massive collection, it remains unclear if the sale can be stopped without a law prohibiting it.

Detroit’s Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr ordered an appraisal of the DIA’s 60,000 pieces of artwork in May, sparking concern that they were preparing for a possible sale if the City filed for bankruptcy.

The Detroit Free Press has estimated the collection to be valued at $2.5 billion, including works by Matisse, van Gogh, Picasso, Rembrandt, Rodin and Caravaggio.

The bad news is that the city has so much debt and obligation that selling the art would not substantially help the situation.

It may be awhile before we find out the fate of this valuable art since a judge Michigan judge has ruled the bankruptcy “unconstitutional” because, “…the Michigan Constitution prohibits actions that will lessen the pension benefits of public employees.” Incredibly, the judge also described the filing as “cheating” and said it was not “…honoring the president who took the auto companies out of bankruptcy.” The Detroit Free Press also reported that the judges declaratory judgement would be sent to President Obama because he, “bailed out Detroit,”…and may want to look into the pension issue.

I don’t know if that constitutes a challenge or a threat to the President. Sure sounds like the judge expects the pensioners of Detroit will be given a bailout as were the pensioners of GM. We’ll have to wait to see whether Detroit is in any way valuable for Democrats in the coming election to find out what the President will, or will not, do.

In the meantime, an appeal has been filed against the judges ruling.

God save us from liberal progressive community organizing, central planning, and redistribution greed.

Americans were once too proud to engage in wealth by intimidation, theft, and ill-gotten booty…they stood firmly behind the ideals of the individual earning, saving, and investing his way to prosperity and it worked well for about 150 years.

How do you think Detroit became prosperous enough to purchase all of that beautiful art!

Baby Murdered in Cold Blood – No Outrage From White House, Congress or Al Sharpton

You won’t recognize me. My name was Antonio West and I was the 13-month old child who was shot at point blank range in the face by two black teens who were attempting to rob my mother, who was also shot. A Grand Jury of my mommy’s peers from Brunswick GA determined the teens who murdered me will not face the death penalty…too bad I was given a death sentence for being innocent and defenseless.My family made the mistake of being white in a 73% non-white neighborhood, but my murder was not ruled a Hate Crime. Nor did President Obama take so much as a single moment to acknowledge my murder.

I am one of the youngest murder victims in our great Nation’s history, but the media doesn’t care to cover the story of my tragic demise, President Obama has no children who could possibly look like me – so he doesn’t care and the media doesn’t care because my story is not interesting enough to bring them ratings so they can sell commercial time slots.

There is not a white equivalent of Al Sharpton because if there was he would be declared racist, so there is no one rushing to Brunswick GA to demand justice for me. There is no White Panther party to put a bounty on the lives of those who murdered me. I have no voice, I have no representation and unlike those who shot me in the face while I sat innocently in my stroller – I no longer have my life.

So while you are seeking justice for Treyvon, please remember to seek justice for me too. Tell your friends about me, tell you families, get tee shirts with my face on them and make the world pay attention, just like you did for Treyvon

Cultural Awareness Follows Zimmerman Verdict

The desire to improve race relations and raise cultural awareness as a result of the Zimmerman shooting continues to grow.   This weekend supporters for Trayvon Martin will be holding dialog rallies across the nation.  A common thread among the peace protesters is that white people too often feel threatened by black males that they see as violent and potentially dangerous.  
trayvon45As a result of this rediculous, unwarranted and unfair stereotype people tend to overreact as Zimmerman did while he was being beaten and (allegedly) told he was going to die.

To educate people a number of random events were held across America this week and this weekend is predicted to be the largest educational events to date.

March 25-26: At least seven white people were attacked by mobs of black people in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  ”The detective also told Jacob that he believed the Trayvon Martin media frenzy is what prompted the attacks.”

April 5: A 78-year-old Ohio man said that he was the victim of a hate crime after a group of young black men attacked him while shouting, “This is for Trayvon.”

April 10: Police in Gainesville, FL investigated a “racially motivated” incident after several black men attacked a white man. The victim was punched in the face and was then struck several more times while he was on the ground. The attackers allegedly chanted, “Trayvon” before the attack.

April 25: An Alabama man was attacked by a mob of 20 black people in his home. The attackers used brass knuckles, pipes, paint cans, and other makeshift weapons to beat the victim.   ”one of the assailants referenced Trayvon Martin during the attack.”

April 26: A 15-year-old black male was charged with a hate crime for attacking and robbing white victims. Police say that the suspect pinned the victim, threatened him with a large tree branch, and then said, “Empty your pockets, white boy.” and “he was angry about the Trayvon Martin case.”

July 14: Riots in Oakland, California turned violent when protestors threw rocks at reporters and policemen, causing an estimated $50,000 in property damage.

July 15: An eyewitness claims that a group of young black men assaulted a Hispanic man while shouting, “This is for Trayvon!” The eyewitness stated, “They were just yelling and calling him names as they ran after him, but once they were hitting him and after that they started yelling, ‘This is for Trayvon, [expletive].'”

July 15: Several cultural events approaching riot level intensity with extensive property damage was reported in Los Angeles on Monday.trayvon-martin-prayer-rally

(L.A. Monday)  Kids in Los Angeles are shown at right helping to erect a steel fence to protect public property.  About 300 police officers were summonded the scene to assist them. 

Meanwhile President Obama said Trayvon Martin could have been him, (no doubt many people wish it was) and his Attorney General, Eric Holder has dennounced the Stand Your Ground law found in 22 states in favor of the “duty to run away” theory.    It’s undeniable that had had Trayvon Martin elected to run away instead of confronting and beating Zimmerman this article would not have been necessary, however I still favor the Stand Your Ground Laws whenever flight is not an option and your life is on the line.

Speaking of cultural awareness… Martin’s homophobia, not Zimmerman’s (alleged) racism was the reason for this whole incident:   ”According to Trayvon Martin’s “girlfriend,” Martin didn’t go home after Zimmerman lost sight of him because he suspected Zimmerman was a predatory homosexual who might be hoping to molest him and who might molest his “little brother” at his dad’s girlfriend’s house if he were to go there. She said that she and Martin even talked about this and how the “creepy ass cracker” might pose a threat to his dad’s girlfriend’s young son. Wow! Can you imagine if a Christian girl said this?!!

In other words, Martin hung around the “T” for over 4 minutes after Zimmerman lost sight of him so he could confront this gay predator. Jeantel said that Martin would respond to a perceived gay threat with violence–her exact words were “whup-ass.” Martin just didn’t count on his victim being armed.

Where’s the liberal outrage over Martin’s violent homophobia and over Rachel Jeantel’s homophobia? Where is it?

Left Law Prof Out of Closet on Marriage Definition

Man, I wish I could just ignore this…but the American people should be well informed about social trends.

It’s inevitable; Marriage will be defined by whatever individuals decide it should be. The precedent has been set using strong legal arguments that will be difficult to overturn. This is the opinion of self-identified leftist law professor Kent Greenfield, Boston College Law School, who says that the recent wins in court for gay marriage “will lead to legalized incest and polygamy”:

“Opponents of same-sex marriage have long argued that allowing such unions will lead to marriages among more than two people and between adults who are related. They’re right.”
So says Kent Greenfield, a Boston College Law School professor at the Catholic university who supports same-sex marriage, in a recent column for The American Prospect.
In it, he essentially acknowledges the successful legal arguments in favor of same-sex marriage could and likely should apply to polygamous and incestuous marriages, and arguments against those two types of unions fall short:

If marriage is about the ability to define one’s own family, what’s the argument against allowing brothers and sisters (or first cousins) to wed? If liberty protects, as Kennedy wrote ten years ago in Lawrence v. Texas, the case striking down Texas’s anti-sodomy law, the “right to define one’s own concept of existence, of meaning, of the universe, and of the mystery of human life,” why can’t people in polyamorous relationships claim that right as well? If it’s wrong to exclude groups because of prejudice, are we sure the uneasiness most of us feel about those who love more than one, or love one of their own, shouldn’t count as prejudice? …

We can continue to search for differences that make sense as a matter of constitutional principle. Or we can fess up. We can admit our arguments in favor of marriage equality inexorably lead us to a broader battle in favor of allowing people to define their marriages, and their families, by their own lights.

This is a law professor writing in a left wing publication who favors gay marriage…he’s not some right wing nut writing on an obscure blog.

Suddenly my position doesn’t seem to be so out there. If love is the only basis for marriage then anything goes! Good luck America.

Interesting stories in the news….

Microsoft suffered it’s largest one day drop since the Great Recession. Steve Ballmer’s realignment is not seen as a good thing and analysts have been giving Microsoft a big thumbs down.  MSFT eaernings were down.  Stock was off about 11% a few minutes ago.

Irony coming from the Z trial.  Al Sharpton and Eric Holder have railed against the Stand Your Ground Law as if it were linked to the defense of poor old George Zimmerman.  It was not.  The defense argued simple self defense.    However, these two racebaiters felt necessary to rally their forces behind something, and this was the best they could do.   So, what’s the irony?   Stand Your Ground Laws statistically favors black citizens.  Yes, they are far better off with it than without it!   Brilliant move Al and Eric… and Barrack ,who if he had a son, he would look just like a black teenager thumping a neighborhood watch guy.          

More irony…the biggest piece of legislation in American history that will fundamentally transform the healthcare industry has been delayed by a year, presumably to get us past the election cycle before the it’s cost is felt.    Our liberal legislators said this was vital to America and Joe Biden said this a big F’n deal!  Odd that not one of them is using it in their  re-election campaigns.  It’s never even being mentioned, whats up with that?

Looks like we are awash in oil. So says Joe Petrowski of Gulf Oil. He thinks that oil will be around $50 a barrel by the end of the year. He explained why on CNBC’s Squawk Box on Monday morning. Don’t expect to see your pump prices coming down in this state any time soon…thanks to CA excise taxes, tight restrictions on gasoline imports, costly regulation of the industry and limited production ability…all self imposed by Sacramento. 

And finally this story… 

Yesterday we heard that Detroit filed Chapter 9 bankruptcy to become the largest city to-date to do so. Detroit was doing so well back in the 1950’s, they had a strong industrial base, plenty of jobs, low crime and then a slow transition began where too many neighborhoods were allowed to run down, too much crime and drugs on the streets. Gangs took over neighborhoods. There were some landmark riots by it’s black citizens and this included some major labor union riots too. The older, upscale neighborhoods were the first to go.   Welfare kept creeping over the city.  Detroit’s demographics quickly changed and along with it came populism, rule by the minoirty poor and they learned they could get free S through elections.   This resulted a host of costly and very bad economic choices.   And the welfare continue to grow and so did the crime.   Fast forward to the year 2000 the trend towards heavy government regulations, higher and higher taxes was devastating.  And behind that government mess came more joblessness, more crime, more gang controlled ghettos, more white-flight and finally…finally there came the tipping point!  Detroit had too many tax takers and not enough tax payers and as RHT has said, the free ice cream stopped.   Detroit’s fate was sealed.  

The transition from a city of industry, great wealth and good jobs to a city in ruins and without hope was complete. Those who felt they were entitled to take Detroit’s wealth and run the show  got exactly what they wanted.  

There’s a lesson to be learned here, because America is taking the same course as Detroit.

Bernanke’s Startling Comment Indicates Fragile Economy

Listening to the Fed Chairman speak is like listening to a report delivered in a foreign language. Most Americans don’t even bother to listen. But Chairman Bernanke said something that everyone can understand and that if not handled right could have a profound impact in our lives. I’m talking about the injection of money into the market called QE. This is the policy that is said to have saved us from imminent doom and was supposed to act like a spark plug for the economy. While most recession recoveries were relatively short in duration followed by steady strong growth the current economy continues to flag and Bernanke admitted that if he were to ease off on QE “…the economy would tank”.

We are told every month that things are getting better. It is such a lie.

A reminder…it IS the economy, stupid. I know the intense racism in America is all the talk right now but let us not forget the continuing high unemployment and the fact that Americans continue to lose buying power even if they are working. Gasoline and food prices are rising. The housing recovery is made up mostly of investors. A few folks have purchased new cars lately but the rate of sales is still very sluggish in a nation that relies heavily on the private car to get around. If it were not for the leadership of governors in conservative red states I think we’d be in much worse shape than we are. Apparently Mr. Bernanke agrees.
