Beck We Surround Them

Fans to participate in Glenn Beck event

** The Melbourne restaurant is one of four Brevard County locations hosting groups to watch the Glenn Beck television program as the popular talk show host unveils the nine principles and 12 values of his “We Surround Them” theme. *** He has asked viewers nationwide to set up viewing parties to watch the show together and then discuss it. *** More than 500 people are expected to pack the Dairy Road eatery. Other Brevard locations hosting parties are Beef O’Brady’s on Wickham Road, The Old Spanish Mission Inn in Titusville and the Depot Caf on Merritt Island. *** “It’s amazing that the government does not fear the people anymore,” Beck said Wednesday morning on the Bill Mick radio show on WMMB in Melbourne. “You have to be men and women of integrity and you have to put your country before your party.” *** Beck says it’s time for the American people — regardless of party affiliation — to end the corruption in Washington, the kowtowing to special interests and to regain integrity and honesty that’s been lost. He said there is no reason to fear the government since “we surround them.” *** The values and principles in his plan stress honesty, hard work, responsibility and courage among others. *** “We can disagree on policies but not on principles,” Beck said. **

AMEN!!!

Self-repairing car paint ‘makes scrapes vanish’, by Mark Henderson, Science Editor Times Online (UK)

** Scientists in the United States have developed a type of polyurethane coating that mends itself in less than an hour when exposed to sunlight. They plan to develop it as a paint for cars and other surfaces that are subjected to heavy wear and tear, as well as in new forms of packaging, clothing and biomedical products such as bandages. *** Marek Urban and Biswajit Ghosh, of the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, created the material using a natural substance found in the shells of crabs and shrimps. *** Howell Edwards, of the University of Bradford, said: Clearly, there are future applications of this work in the repair of automotive components, which extensively use polyurethane polymers, that have suffered minor damage, although the authors note that subsequent damage at the same site is not repairable. **

Tyranny American Style

Libby and I apparently read with very different lenses and minds. The following is from Chapter VI of Alexis de Tocquevilles book, Democracy in America. Please join in the conversation about what his wise words tell us. Enjoy!

WHAT SORT OF DESPOTISM DEMOCRATIC NATIONS HAVE TO FEAR

I HAD remarked during my stay in the United States that a democratic state of society, similar to that of the Americans, might offer singular facilities for the establishment of despotism; and I perceived, upon my return to Europe, how much use had already been made, by most of our rulers, of the notions, the sentiments, and the wants created by this same social condition, for the purpose of extending the circle of their power. This led me to think that the nations of Christendom would perhaps eventually undergo some oppression like that which hung over several of the nations of the ancient world. .

A more accurate examination of the subject, and five years of further meditation, have not diminished my fears, but have changed their object.

No sovereign ever lived in former ages so absolute or so powerful as to undertake to administer by his own agency, and without the assistance of intermediate powers, all the parts of a great empire; none ever attempted to subject all his subjects indiscriminately to strict uniformity of regulation and personally to tutor and direct every member of the community. The notion of such an undertaking never occurred to the human mind; and if any man had conceived it, the want of information, the imperfection of the administrative system, and, above all, the natural obstacles caused by the inequality of conditions would speedily have checked the execution of so vast a design.

Big Oil Makes a Targeted Move

1008-bullseye2bxp253948.jpgPosted by Tina

ZUG, Switzerland – The tidy towns and mountain vistas of Switzerland are an unlikely setting for an oil boom. Yet a wave of energy companies has in the last few months announced plans to move to Switzerland — mainly for its appeal as a low-tax corporate domicile that looks relatively likely to stay out of reach of Barack Obama’s tax-seeking administration. *** “Switzerland has a stable and developed tax regime and a network of tax treaties with most countries where we operate,” Transocean Chief Executive Bob Long said in a statement in October, when it announced its move. “As a result, the redomestication will improve our ability to maintain a competitive worldwide effective corporate tax rate.” Reuters

Elections have consequences…policies have consequences too. The current government has adopted an extreme anti-business stance toward oil companies combining very restrictive policies with high tax rates. You can’t expect a targeted business to just stand still and take it.

10 Years Later…A Friendly Reminder

Justice to Investigate Joe Arpaio

Justice Department to investigate Arizona sheriff’s department over civil rights allegations, by Eduardo Montes

** PHOENIX (AP) Federal authorities told a high-profile Arizona sheriff Tuesday that they will investigate his department over allegations of discrimination and unconstitutional searches and seizures. *** The U.S. Justice Department said in a letter to Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio that investigators will focus on alleged patterns of police discrimination based on national origin. *** The letter offers no specific allegations. But Arpaio said he believes the investigation was spurred by his department’s often controversial efforts to combat illegal immigration in Maricopa County, which includes Phoenix. *** Arpaio’s department is the largest participant in a federal program that allows local police departments to enforce federal immigration laws. *** The department has aggressively pursued investigations under Arizona’s employer sanctions law and a state anti-smuggling law. **

Obama on earmarks from an earlier time.

** Then-Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., one year ago this week, swooped in from the campaign trail to vote for an amendment to impose a one-year moratorium on earmarks for fiscal year 2009. All three then-presidential candidates voted for the amendment. It failed. Obama said then “we can no longer accept a process that doles out earmarks based on a member of Congress seniority, rather than the merit of the project. – Jake Tapper, ABC News **

James Carville is on the offensive team (yes I mean offensive) for Obama. He has been on Rushs case for saying he wants Obama to fail. (Rush actually said he wanted Obamas Marxist/socialist policies to fail) Bill Samon recalls an interesting Carville moment:

** On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, just minutes before learning of the terrorist attacks on American, Democratic strategist James Carville was hoping for President Bush to fail, telling a group of Washington reporters: “I certainly hope he doesn’t succeed.” – Bill Samon, Fox news **

Card Check is Payback to BIG Union

Posted by Tina

** After spending an astounding $61 million to elect Democrats in the 2008 elections, union bosses are getting their payback this week. Yesterday, so-called Card Check legislation was introduced in both the House and the Senate. Card Check strips American workers of the right to a secret ballot and gives the federal government the right to impose labor contracts on workers. *** Even Obama supporter Warren Buffet opposes it, saying I think the secret ballot is pretty important in the country. Im against card check. Newt Gingrich, Human Events
