Health Alert – Low Cholesterol is Deadly

Posted by Jack

http://www.wellnessclubsofamerica.com/Copy_of_Cholesterol_Low_Part_1_c.htmlPatients taking some common medications for high cholesterol and irregular heart beats can suffer severe muscle damage because of a problem in the way the drugs interact, a government study warned.

“…low cholesterol levels, even though they are in a proper proportion of HDL and LDL can be deadly.”

The cholesterol is harmful hypothesis is but one of several theories that have been advanced over the past 200 years to explain the phenomenon of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). The body and especially the brain needs a certain amount of cholesterol to function properly, afterall the brain is nearly 50% cholesterol. Depriving the body of cholesterol can lead to anxiety or panic attacks, depression and even stroke! Some people wrongly assume that lowering cholesterol will lead to reduced arterial plaque (hardening of the arteries), however at the end of the study there was no statistical difference in the progression of arterial calcified plaque betweeen those who took statin drugs to reduce cholesterol and those who did not.

…Cholesterol is NOT the Cause of Heart Disease

Moving Day May Be Just Around the Corner

Move_Van.jpegby Tina Grazier

California is in deep financial trouble and that ain’t good news. We have a legislature that doesnt have a clue and a governor that has realized without cooperation there is little he can do. The people of California pay the price for their incompetence and neglect. If we dont want it to continue we had better learn how to increase tax revenues while ensuring good jobs or we will find ourselves facing a tax burden that puts us all squarely in the poor house right along with our state government.

***

The government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.Ronald Reagan

***

The following story is but one in several thousand that will follow in the coming months. This one is about a group of chicken farmers that are facing expensive new regulation. The proposition in question, born of pressure from a small group of animal rights freaks, has the potential to drive these businesses and the jobs they offer out of our fair state:

Inland farmers are fighting a ballot measure to eliminate the cage system used in egg production, a change they say would drive the $337 million industry out of California, taking jobs and tax revenue with it. The farmers have joined forces and contributed to a million-dollar campaign to defeat Prop. 2 – Presse-Enterprise, Riverside, CA

Man Turning Into Tree

growthman.jpg
He is known simply as Tree Man.

Since he cut his knee as a teenager, strange roots have been growing out of Dede, a 35-year-old Indonesian fisherman.

Now he is hoping his life can be saved from his bizarre affliction.

The strange growths mean he cannot use his hands. He was sacked from his job and his wife left him.

To help raise his two children, at one point he joined a freak show with other victims of peculiar diseases.

An American dermatology expert believes he may be able to cure the warts on Dede’s body.

Dr Anthony Gaspari of the University of Maryland says that a rare genetic fault will not allow Dede’s immune system to stop the spread of the growths.

However, he believes a synthetic form of Vitamin A could stop the development of the warts.

Heres a Precedent to Ponder

Matthew J. Franck, on his blog Bench Memos, has a powerful point regarding the Salim Hamdan sentencing. The following was taken from his post, Oh For the Good Old Days:

I find the sentence of Salim Hamdan to a mere five and a half years (reduced thanks to time served to a mere one-eleventh of that) appalling. *** In mid-June 1942, eight Germans were covertly landed on American beaches with orders to commit acts of sabotage, and proceeded inland dressed as civilians. Within days they were all captured by the FBI without having harmed a hair on any American’s head. Turned over to the Army, the unlawful enemy combatants were provided with counsel, tried before a military commission, and convicted and sentenced to death for violations of the laws of war. All this occurred before July 1942 was over. President Roosevelt commuted the sentences of two of the prisoners to life in prison; the other six were executed on August 8, 1942. In the meantime the Supreme Court heard and dismissed the motion of the prisoners for leave to file petitions for habeas corpus, holding in Ex parte Quirin that the combined effect of the congressional declaration of war, the articles of war governing lawful combat, and the president’s proclamation that unlawful enemy combatants “were denied access to the courts” was such that the civilian judiciary had no role to play.

Will it Be a Phony Pro-life Convention for Dems?

by Tina Grazier

Bill Clinton stood on the convention floor in 1992 and smugly proclaimed, Frankly, I am fed up with politicians in Washington lecturing the rest of us about family values. The convention floor broke out in gales of laughter, woofs, and hoots and ol Bill plastered that open-mouthed hillbilly grin on his face and relished the direct hit on the opposing parties perceived old fashioned ways. The Democrat party in 1992 was a party that ridiculed old fashioned ways. Family values, values of any kind, and religion were to be snickered at and derided.

Weve come a long way since 1992.

Getting to Know you – Cindy McCain

113730-1.jpegPosted by Tina

Little has been said about the “other” potential First Lady, Cindy McCain, so I thought you might enjoy this piece by the former First Lady of Colorado and her daughter. Its an introduction that reveals a woman of substance, dedication, generosity and humility:

Cindy McCain is perfect for first lady, by Frances Owens and Monica Owens.

Cindy has dedicated her life to improving the lives of the less fortunate, both in the United States and around the world. Yet despite her humanitarian background, little media attention has been given to Mrs. McCain. *** As an advocate for children’s health care needs, Cindy founded and ran the American Voluntary Medical Team (AVMT) from 1988 to 1995. Cindy led 55 medical missions to Third World and war-torn countries. On one of those missions, Mother Teresa convinced Cindy to take two babies in need of medical attention from Bangladesh to the United States. One of those babies is the McCain’s adopted daughter, 16-year-old Bridget McCain. *** In recent years, three organizations in particular have been the subject of her international focus: HALO, a non-profit organization dedicated to land mine removal and weapons destruction in war-torn countries; Operation Smile, a non-profit organization whose mission is to repair cleft lips; and CARE, which works to fight global poverty, particularly among women. *** In addition to her humanitarian work, Cindy is the chairman of her family’s business, Hensley & Company, which is one of the largest Anheuser-Busch distributors in the country. *** Mrs. McCain is not only married to an American hero, she is the mother of two her sons, Jack and Jimmy, both of whom are serving our country in the military. *** Jack is attending his fourth year at the U.S. Naval Academy and hopes to become a naval aviator, and Jimmy, a Marine, whose unit had been deployed to Iraq in 2007, has recently returned home.

Home-school Victory!

free-apple_book.jpegPosted by Tina

Parents may legally home-school their children in California even if they lack a teaching credential, a state appellate court ruled Friday. The decision is a reversal of the court’s earlier position, which effectively prohibited most home schooling and sparked fear throughout the state’s estimated 166,000 home-schoolers. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who had vowed to allow home schooling through legislation if the court did not act, praised the ruling.

Ahhhh, freedom.

SAN FRANCISCO — Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan qualified today for a November showdown with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, collecting the signatures needed to get on the ballot as an independent candidate for Congress. “We’re very excited,” said Sheehan, 51, the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq who is well-known for her protest outside President Bush’s Texas ranch. “Now we have to get organized and regroup.”
