Time You Enjoy Wasting

Bertrand Arthur William Russell (1872-1970) was a British philosopher, logician, essayist and social critic best known for his work in mathematical logic and analytic philosophy.

I have neither experience nor skill sets in much of that stuff.   But Russell’s logic resonates about enjoying the time you spend.  Otherwise, what’s the point?

My mom’s father, Grandpa Alex, was a professional violinist, voracious reader, and keen observer of people.  After one of my road-tripping gallivants he asked whether I became lonesome.

“Sometimes,” I said.  “But I’m more often content.”

He paused for a moment then said something I’ll never forget.  “If you’re good company for yourself, you’re good company for others.

Here I am NOT wasting time, floating through a friendly canyon on the John Day River in central Oregon.
