Firefighters in the Newhall Pass were working Sunday to control a wildfire that terrified thousands of San Fernando Valley residents, isolated a hospital left without electricity and destroyed at least 500 homes in a mobile home park and at least nine other homes. Capt. Bill Wick of the Los Angeles Fire Department said at 7 a.m. Sunday that the fire was 30 percent contained and had burned about 9,000 acres.
