Putin Responds

Posted by Tina

NYT:

MOSCOW — President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia broke his silence over the Ukraine crisis on Tuesday for the first time since it boiled over into a possible armed confrontation, asserting that he saw no reason for Russian forces to intervene in eastern Ukraine at the moment but leaving open the possibility of military action, saying that Russia “reserves the right to use all means at our disposal to protect” Russian speakers in the country’s south and east if they are in danger.

Mr. Putin’s comments — in an hourlong unscripted news conference in Moscow in which he described events in Ukraine as an unconstitutional coup and expressed contempt toward the United States — came as East-West tensions escalated in the former Soviet republic on Russia’s doorstep, which has been convulsed in a political and economic crisis for months. The crisis escalated sharply last week when Russia moved to strengthen control over Ukraine’s largely Russian-speaking Crimean peninsula, home to the Kremlin’s Black Sea fleet. …

…and said the United States government had interfered in Ukraine “from across the pond in America as if they were sitting in a laboratory and running experiments on rats, without any understanding of the consequences.”

Contempt for America under this administration is unmistakable.

Have tyou noticed the rhetoric coming from Russia is getting worse by the week. I think we’re seeing a diversion away from the corruption that is hip deep in Moscow. Too many leadres have syphoned off billions for their personal enjoyment and once the people start demanding an accounting things are going to turn ugly fast! There’s plenty of Russians asking hard question already…if I were one of those looting the treasury I think I would be getting very nervous.

  2. Libby says:

Who’d a thunk it … that WWIII would arise in this corner of the planet?

I am dismayed. The president of a sovereign nation loots his nation’s treasury, absconds to Russia, and Russia invades said sovereign nation.

It sounds like something you’d read in your Marvel Comics. I hope Pooty can be persuaded to back off. The Russian stock market has tanked. The oligarchs won’t be happy.

But, I mean, what a world.

  3. Dewey says:

After Merkle reported Puttie seemed out of it to Obama it left a question….Then Puttie gave an incoherent press conference…So is he playing games or has he lost it.

Remember Russia invaded Georgia and never left. Americans forget and go fill their big diesel trucks full of gas and pop open a beer….

Now Russia has made another move……..

The CIA has failed several times to predict his moves, what do they really do?

Remember Putin stole his election. Putin is KGB.

Putin made a land grab. Do not forget the Republicans and Tea Party politicians who just recently praised putie,

  4. Tina says:

Or the president who sent the message to Pootie Poot through Medvedev about “having more leeway” after the election! I guess the Prez thought he and Pootie were buds.

Saying that Putin was kicking Obama’s butt isn’t exactly praise for Putin…figure it out. Putins taking America for a ride and Obama is supplying the gas.

  5. Harold says:

Hey folks, Putin is just working this in the name of “national Interest” for the secure use of the sea port at Sevastopol is an important and historical port on the Black Sea for Russia’s winter shipping needs. I mean he just took a page out of Rahm Emanuel play book, you know “Never Let A Good Crisis Go To Waste” I think the Liberals should be intoxicated that one of their leaders directives is being applied by such a socialist devotee after all. Well don’t cha?

  6. Tina says:

Great take Harold…those folks do think alike!

  7. Pie Guevara says:

Remember, epic fail boy is just a fool.

  8. Tina says:

Svetlana Kunin has a message for Americans, in particular, those with a progressive bent. Please, read and wise up. The lady knows what she’s talking about, having lived it. Included in her excellent article are a few Soviet jokes like this one:

Central government guarantees that all people earn a “sustainable leaving minimum”: that is a scientific calculation of people’s needs that allows government rulers to have a good life. (Soviet joke)

  9. Dewey says:

    Epic Fail on Bullpuckey Pie

  10. Dewey says:

Pootie Poot is a thug bar none so is that why the Tea Party calls him their hero?

  11. Tina says:

    Dewey can you read English?

The left wing article you linked to is a negative jab against Boehner. The only mention of the Tea Party is it’s claim that Boehner is hiding from the Tea Party and cowering under his desk. It says nothing about the Tea Party calling Putin their “hero”…not that if it did it would be the truth.

No wonder your posts are such jumbled messes.

  12. Chris says:

Sweden. Germany. France. England. Spain. Denmark. Canada. Italy. Portugal.

These are all countries with stronger social safety nets and worker protections than the United States.

They are also all countries where gulags have yet to be implemented.

Any claim that the U.S. is on its way to being like the Soviet Union if progressives have their way is stupid on its face, and beneath any form of rational discourse.
